SECTION 32 90 13 NEW PLANTING PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 INTENT A. The intent of the landscape maintenance program is to maintain the landscape areas (lawn and shrub plantings) in a vigorous, healthy and attractive condition. 1. Lawns shall be maintained as a close stand of the specified species, free of pests, and disease. Check and repair all planting areas for erosion and bare spots. Mowable lawns (class 1 and 1a, with slopes of less than 4:1 (H:V)) shall be mowed at the proper standard height with the appropriate equipment for the specific type of lawn species. Mowable lawn areas shall be cleaned of litter prior to mowing. 2. Shrubs shall be maintained free of dead or dying branches, with branch tips bearing foliage of a normal density, size and color for that species. Erosion control mulch blankets shall be maintained and repaired as needed. 1.02 SECTION INCLUDES A. Watering lawns ( lawns include native grass, sedge, and forb plantings) and shrubs. B. Fertilizing lawns and shrubs. C. Mowing lawns. D. Repairing erosion control mulch blankets in shrub plantings. E. Weeding/herbicide application in shrub plantings and lawns. F. Aeration of lawns. G. 1.04 DEFINITIONS A. Pesticide: A substance or mixture intended for preventing, destroying, repelling, or mitigating a pest. This includes insecticides, miticides, herbicides, fungicides, rodenticides, and molluscicides. It also includes substances or mixtures intended for use as a plant regulator, defoliant, or desiccant. B. Pests: Living organisms that occur where they are not desired or that cause damage to plants, animals, or people. These include insects, mites, grubs, molluscks (snails and slugs), rodents (gophers, moles, and mice), unwanted plants (weeds), fungi, bacteria, and viruses. C. Planting Area: Areas to be planted. D. Plant, Plants, Plant Material: These terms refer to vegetation in general, including trees, shrubs, vines, ground covers, ornamental grasses, bulbs, corms, tubers, or herbaceous vegetation. E. Root Flare: Also called trunk flare. The area at the base of the plant s stem or trunk where the stem or trunk broadens to form roots; the area of transition between the root system and stem or trunk. 1.05 REFERENCES A. FS 0-f-241 Fertilizers, Mixed Chemical 1.06 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Contractor: Company specializing in lawn and shrub care with a minimum of five years experience. B. Staff Expertise: 1. Contractor must have on staff one horticulturist, forester, botanist, or liketrained individual able to demonstrate knowledge of identification and care of landscape plant and lawn materials, including native grasses and forbs. 2. Trained and certified person(s) for handling and application of fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides, and knowledge of integrated pest management methods. 1.07 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS A. Comply with regulatory agencies for fertilizer, herbicide and pesticide composition. 329013-2 NEW PLANTING

1.08 PERIOD A. Maintenance of lawn areas shall begin upon acceptance of the installation and continue for one calendar year. B. Maintenance of landscape plantings (shrubs) will begin upon final acceptance and run concurrently with the one year warranty period for plantings. 1.09 SCOPE OF WORK A. The scope of maintenance work will include the following components: 1. All general conditions required by Owner 2. Turf Maintenance 3. Perennial Planting Maintenance 4. Fertilization 5. Mulching 6. Monitor and Adjust Landscape Irrigation 7. Weed Control 8. Insect and Disease Control 9. Pruning 10. Storm Debris Removal 11. Leaf Removal 12. Replacement of Plants 13. Litter Control 14. Seasonal Soils Test for Planting Areas 15. All planted areas of the site to be maintained.. B. Areas of the landscape to be maintained and the level of maintenance are described herein. 1. The contractor shall provide lawn maintenance, litter removal, mulching, watering, weed and pest control services for Owner for all new planting areas as shown in the Construction Documents. 329013-3 NEW PLANTING

2. The contractor shall not engage or use the services of subcontractors in performing the contract, unless noted and approved by the Owner s representative(s). 3. The contractor shall be responsible for all supervision required to satisfactorily perform the requirements of the contract. 4. The contractor shall provide all equipment, labor and other materials necessary to perform the services indicated. 5. Payment for work completed shall be conditional upon the approval of the Owner or Owner s representative(s). The contractor shall submit an invoice itemizing services provided to Owner on a monthly basis. The sum of the monthly invoices shall be based upon an even distribution of the total contract amount. Contractor will receive payment within forty five (45) days after approval of invoice by the Owner or Owner s representative. 6. The agreement for the work to be performed may be terminated by the Owner or Owner s representative(s) should they determine the contractor has not satisfactorily completed the work assigned. Notice of contract termination must be made in writing. A minimum of ten (10) days notification is necessary to terminate contract. 7. The contractor shall be held responsible for any damage, breakage and/or loss of Owner s signage, buildings, irrigation or vegetation (i.e. trees), or any loss incurred to adjacent property, buildings, or vegetation through the negligence of the contractor or his/her employees while working on site. 8. The Owner assumes no liability for personal injury or property damage resulting from the performance of the contracted services. 9. To prevent disputes and litigation, it is mutually agreed that the Owner, in all cases, determines all questions that may arise relevant to the performance of the work and the adequacy of the personnel, equipment, vehicles and material covered under this agreement. 10. It is understood that the contractor is an independent contractor and neither he/she nor his/her employees shall represent themselves as either employees or agents of the Owner. Any person employed by the contractor who, in the opinion of the Owner, does not perform satisfactorily, is intemperate, or rude to patrons or employees of the Owner, shall at the written request of the Owner be removed from further employ in any portion of the contract. 11. The contractor shall provide supervision of all work crews at all times while performing work under this contract. Personal supervision is not required provided that equipment or other means are provided that enable the work crew to communicate with the contractor/supervisor at all times. 329013-4 NEW PLANTING

12. Contractor will attend a mandatory pre-bid conference and site inspection. Adjustments to contract price shall NOT be made due to differences between the Owner and contractor site interpretations. 13. Any and all accidents (both personal injury and private property damage) are to be reported to the Owner or Owner s representative(s) as soon as possible. 14. Maintenance contractor is to obtain a list of special events from the Owner or Owner s representative to avoid any conflicts with maintenance operations and shall adjust schedule as necessary. 1.10 SUBMITTALS A. Maintenance schedule: Contractor shall prepare and submit a year s maintenance schedule outlining all scheduled maintenance activities and approximate dates for completion of each specific maintenance activity. B. Field reports: Contractor shall review, on a monthly basis during the growing season from March through October, the general condition of the landscape at all areas of this project. Contractor shall submit a written field report each month to the Owner stating the general condition, progress of maintenance efforts and any problems related to the growth, health, or appearance of the landscape; and proposed measures to repair any problems. C. Staff expertise: Contractor shall submit the names and relevant experience and training of the staff horticulturist, forester, or botanist as per Article 1.5.A above, and person(s) trained and certified for handling and application of fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides per Article 1.5.B above. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 MATERIALS A. All reseeding and replacement plant materials, soil amendments and accessories shall match those originally specified. 2.02 GENERAL SERVICES A. Contractor shall submit a work ticket to the Owner or Owner s representative(s) each week of work listing specific areas to be watered, mulched, or otherwise maintained and the work that will be accomplished. The work ticket shall be picked up or available to Owner at the end of each week. Contractor shall sign the ticket attesting that the work was completed. 329013-5 NEW PLANTING

B. Contractor shall be responsible for appearance and conduct of his/her employees at all times. Contractor s employees shall wear uniform shirts while performing grounds maintenance duties for Owner. Pants may not be cut-offs, hats worn forward. C. All work being performed under this contract shall be done in accordance with Federal and State labor laws and will adhere to O.S.H.A. regulations. D. The contractor shall provide appropriate traffic control devices when working within any street right-of-way. Contractor employees shall wear orange safety vests at all times. Reasonable care shall be taken when working in the vicinity of people, vehicles, buildings and property. 2.03 SOILS TESTS A. Soils samples shall be taken annually in the same locations. Tests shall be compared to original results and soils shall be amended until they reach ideal conditions per original construction documents. In addition, if plant materials are in declining state anywhere on the site, and no insect or disease problems are evident, the contractor shall take a soil sample from the affected planting bed or lawn area and obtain a soils test. A copy of the soils report with recommendations shall be given to the Owner or Owner s representative. The contractor shall amend the soils as necessary to ensure proper growing conditions for the affected plant material. 2.04 MULCHING A. Contractor shall provide and maintain mulch around trees, shrubs and landscaped areas to a depth of 2. When replacing or adding to existing mulch, mulch shall be double-ground, (at a minimum) well decomposed, shredded hardwood bark mulch. Mulch shall not touch the trunks of trees or be laid over the tops of existing plant material. 2.05 TREE CARE A. All newly installed trees are to be watered in the spring and fall with BioPlex Technical Transplant Concentrate and Plant Enhancer per manufacturer s specifications. BioPlex phone number 1-800-441-3573. B. Broad leaved evergreen trees shall be fertilized once a year with high iron and acid materials appropriate for broad leaf evergreens. C. Contractor shall monitor all newly planted trees for signs of stress, including insect or disease problems. Trees shall also be protected from animal damage 329013-6 NEW PLANTING

and lawn care equipment injury. The staff arborist should be contacted if a problem exists with or injury occurs to any tree. D. Contractor shall provide pest control on an as needed basis with prior notification to the Owner or Owner s representative. Always consider the least toxic method of pest control as a priority. Pest control shall include, but not be limited to, web worms, fire blight, bag worms, borers and fungi, and will be applied by a licensed professional. 2.06 SHRUB CARE A. Trim all shrubs selectively. Trimming shall occur at appropriate time to maximize shrub productivity; late winter or early spring, before bud break, for most species. Pruning should be delayed for most spring-blooming shrubs until immediately after flowering to avoid reducing the floral display. B. Contractor shall provide pest control on an as needed basis with prior notification to the Owner or Owner s representative. Always consider the least toxic method of pest control as a priority. Pest control shall include, but not be limited to web worms, fire blight, bag worms, bores and fungi, and will be applied by a licensed professional. C. Contractor shall fertilize all shrub planting bed areas. Fertilizer shall be of slow release variety. Make two applications of a balanced complete fertilizer, to be applied at the rate of ½ pound of nitrogen per 1000 square feet. One application to be made in the spring and the second application to be done in the early fall. The Contractor shall modify the fertilizer program to correct nutrient deficiencies as reported by soils testing. 2.07 PERENNIAL PLANTINGS A. Deadhead spent flower and flower spikes during each site inspection to promote re-blooming. B. Cut back rough-looking, declining or floppy perennials to promote fresh, vigorous and attractive new growth. Prune off dead perennial tops in entirety in late winter or early spring. 1. Divide perennials when center of plant begins to show signs of decline or when plants become over crowded in planting bed. Divide spring and early-summer blooming perennials in the fall. 2. Divide late summer and fall-blooming perennials in the spring. 329013-7 NEW PLANTING

C. Grasses shall be cut back in March. Foliage shall be left standing through fall, winter and early spring for winter structure. D. Contractor shall provide pest control on an as needed basis with prior notification to the Owner or Owner s representative. Always consider the least toxic method of pest control as a priority. Pest control shall include, but not be limited to, web worms, aphids, spider mites, mildew, and fungi, and will be applied by a licensed professional. 2.08 PAVED SURFACES A. Contractor shall notify the Owner or Owner s representative if walls or paved surfaces become cracked or broken and are in need of repair. B. Paved surfaces, including sidewalks and parking areas shall be kept free and clear of landscape debris. All plant growth in cracks, seams, or joints of paved areas such as sidewalks, curbs and driveways shall be kept free of weeds, lawn and other plant growth. Material shall be cut down to the pavement surface during the trimming operations or herbicides may be utilized to control such growth, with the prior approval of the Owner or Owner s representative. Approval of herbicide use to be obtained from the Owner or Owner s representative. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 LAWN AREA SCOPE AND ACTIVITIES A. Class 1 seed lawn. 1. Watering: Provide supplemental watering during periods of drought until automatic watering system is completed and operable. Coordinate automatic watering system schedules and rates with Owner s Representative to maintain proper moisture level in all irrigated lawn areas. 2. Fertilizing: Provide and apply 3 applications of fertilizer a year on or about March 15, May 15, and September 15, at the rate of 1.5 lb. of actual nitrogen per 1000 S.F. per application. Fertilizer shall be a complete fertilizer of 1:1:1 ratio with trace nutrients and with 50% of the nitrogen available in slowrelease form. 3. Mowing: Mow and trim lawns at a 10 day interval through the growing season, approximately 15 cuttings, until automatic watering system is put into operation, then mow and trim lawns at a seven day interval. Police lawn areas to pick up debris and litter prior to mowing. Set mowing heights in accordance with type of grass and season. Trim lawn at edges of pavements, curbs, walls, planting beds, light fixtures, and site furniture. 329013-8 NEW PLANTING

4. Aeration: Aerate lawn areas once a year, in September. 5. Overseed: Overseed lawn areas as needed in spring and/or fall to cover bare, eroded or weak areas of lawn. Repair grade, if necessary, before overseeding and provide erosion netting on slopes. 6. Herbicide application: Apply general pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides, one application of each, spring and fall. B. Class 1A seed lawn. 1. Watering: No supplemental watering anticipated after initial establishment. 2. Fertilizing: Provide and apply 2 applications of fertilizer a year on or about May 15 and September 15 at the rate of 1 lb. of actual nitrogen per 1000 S.F. per application. Fertilizer shall be a complete fertilizer of a 1:1:1 ratio with trace nutrients and with 50% of the nitrogen available in slow-release form. 3. Mowing: Mow and trim lawns at a 10 to 14 day interval through the growing season, approximately 15 to 18 cuttings. Police lawn area to pick up debris and litter prior to mowing. Set mowing heights in accordance with type of grass and season. Trim lawn at edges of pavements, curbs, walls, planting beds, light fixtures, and site furniture. 4. Aeration: Aerate lawn areas once a year, in September. 5. Overseed: Overseed lawn areas as needed in spring and/or fall to cover bare, eroded or weak areas of lawn. Repair grade, if necessary before overseeding and provide erosion netting on slopes. 6. Herbicide application: Apply general pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides, one application of each, spring and fall. C. Class 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, 3e slope seed mixtures and Class 4a and 4b seed mixtures of native and non-native grasses, wetland grasses and sedges and forbs. 1. Watering: No supplemental watering anticipated after initial establishment. 2. Fertilizing: No supplemental fertilizer application anticipated. 3. Mowing: Mow or prescribed burn, as needed in specific areas, to control weeds, or improve growth. 4. Aeration: None. 5. Overseeding: Monitor all Class 3 areas for satisfactory growth of specified species seeded. Overseed with specified seed mix, as needed, in fall/winter to repair bare, eroded or thin areas. overseeding to provide appropriate erosion control blanket or netting on slopes. 6. Herbicide application: Class 3 and 4 lawns hall receive herbicide application on an as needed basis, specifically targeted at the problem weed(s). This need will be identified through the monthly field inspections and reports and presented as a proposal to the Owner. 3.02 LANDSCAPE PLANTING SCOPE AND ACTIVITIES: A. Shrub Plantings on Slopes: Areas consist of shrub masses and hedge rows on slope areas. 1. Watering: Provide supplemental water as needed during drought periods of first season after installation. No supplemental watering is anticipated after initial establishment. 2. Mulch Blanket: Maintain and repair the erosion control mulch blankets at shrub plantings, as needed. 3. Weeding: Weed in spring and fall to remove sapling and weed growth in planting beds. Pre- or post-emergent herbicides may be used to control specific week problems. 4. Replacement: Replace all dead or weak plant material as needed and at proper planting season in accordance to installation warranty during first year. In second and third years include dead plant material on field reports and present proposal for replacement to Construction Manager. END OF SECTION 32 90 13 329013-10 NEW PLANTING
