As a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, you will be at the cutting edge of solving really difficult problems and making sure they stay solved. Black Belt training consists of four weeks one five-day session per month over a four-month period. The course includes an introduction to the concepts and methodology of Six Sigma and Lean and then moves onto the five main steps of running an improvement project Define; Measure; Analyse; Improve; and Control. Participants will: Gain a thorough overview of Six Sigma and Lean tools and objectives Understand and value the discipline of business improvement Define and measure problems Learn how to analyse root causes Improve processes based on data and sound decision making. Develop control management systems to sustain the improvements Select and complete good projects that make a difference to the bottom line Training includes change facilitation and group management skills, Six Sigma philosophy, implementation and detailed use of Lean tools and statistical analysis using Minitab statistical software. Riyadh Alaka - Principal Consultant - Business Improvement PhD Mechanical Engineering, University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology; Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry - University of Aston in Birmingham Riyadh Alaka is a Chartered Engineer with skills in chemical, mechanical engineering and materials science. He has 22 years experience in the resources, chemicals, steel and manufacturing industries gained working in the UK, Japan and in Australia. Riyadh s key skills are in plant operation and maintenance, engineering and materials selection, process and product development, and in implementation of business excellence programmes, including Lean and Six Sigma. He recently worked for BHPB in the capacity of Master Black Belt and before that for WMC where he led business improvement projects, trained and coached staff in improvement methodologies, business planning and change management. Chris Jordan - Principal Consultant - Business Improvement BSc Chemical Engineering, University of Alberta; MBA, University of Western Australia; Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt; Professional Engineering Diploma APEGGA Chris has more than 15 years experience as a project and production engineer in the mining, energy and manufacturing industries. Most of his career has been in the area of process troubleshooting, root cause investigations, commissioning and shutdown planning. Chris is a certified Master Black Belt and has experience in operations management, auditing and risk reviews. He has lead several business improvement projects in operating plants, underground and open cut mining and in maintenance. Chris is involved in the development of training courses and also provides business improvement training and mentoring. Rene Holtzhausen - Consultant - Business Improvement Eng Hons Degree (With Distinction) Management of Technology; BEng (1st class) University of Pretoria; Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Rene is an industrial engineer and a certified Black Belt. Most of her career has been with the Ford Motor Company where she gained significant experience in change management and the Six Sigma methodology completing 3 projects that saved the company US$250 000. Since joining Snowden, Rene has run several of Snowden's training courses and has provided Black Belt assistance on numerous mining engineering projects. Rene is an experienced Minitab trainer and has particular skills in mentoring Black Belts and Green Belts through tricky data analysis. Prenitha Naidoo -Consultant - Business Improvement BSc Chemical Engineering, University of KwaZulu-Natal; MBA University of KwaZulu-Natal; Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Prenitha is a chemical engineer with 11 years experience in the chemical and manufacturing industries. She has extensive experience in project and production management, process engineering and implementing continuous improvement systems. More recently Prenitha has worked as a change agent where she was accredited as a black belt team leader, responsible for project facilitation, training and coaching Green belts and Black belts in Lean and Six Sigma. She has also facilitated strategy development and deployment workshops and was responsible for change management integration into project procedures.
Who should attend? Six Sigma Black Belts are dedicated to tackling critical change opportunities and driving them to achieve results. A Black Belt leads, inspires, manages, delegates and coaches colleagues and becomes expert in assessing problems and fixing or designing processes and products. Pre-requisites Participants do not need any previous knowledge or experience with Six Sigma. They will need to identify a real-life cost savings project relevant to their business to complete during the course. The project topic will need to be discussed with the course presenter. This project will be used throughout the whole course and should be completed within six months of starting training. Here are some pointers on what to look for in a good first project: An existing process that is repetitive and controllable Recurring events A narrow scope Data is available or can be collected quickly (6-8 weeks) A process that is customer linked - critical to quality Process will continue to be used for some period of time Brings together resources from multiple functions with multiple perspectives Certification Those attendees who wish to be accredited as a Six Sigma Black Belt will need to: Attend all 20 days of training Come to Week One with a pre-approved project Submit a second project for assessment Fees Payment required at time of registration AU$15,000 plus GST pp (includes a full licence of Minitab statistical software)
