Finance Certificate CF556W Estimated Tuition Candidacy Fees $4,590.00 $175.00 Enroll Now The Finance Certificate is designed to meet the market demand for qualified financial professionals and the desire by individuals to increase their knowledge in finance and investments. The 9-course certificate program provides a comprehensive curriculum covering core aspects of financial theory and practice. In addition to five foundation courses and four electives (to be selected from the fields of Corporate Finance, Investment Management and Analysis, Credit Analysis and Management, and Real Estate Finance), students must also complete a one-day Business Ethics seminar. This program is ideal for working financial professionals who want to expand their current career prospects, individuals who are looking for a career transition into a finance-related position, or recent college graduates who are planning to pursue careers in the financial industry or need specific course work in finance for pre-mba requirements. The Finance Certificate is relevant for individuals interested in the following career paths: corporate finance, financial analysis, international finance, investment management, security analysis, banking, credit management & analysis, and real estate finance. In addition, the program provides relevant coursework for students considering the CMA, FP&A, and CFA certifications. To learn more, click here. Students in certificate programs may repeat once for credit only those courses in which they receive a grade of C-, D, F, NP, or U. A course in which a grade of C-, D or F has been earned may not be repeated for credit on a Passed/Not Passed basis. No more than a single instance of earned credit for any course will count toward minimum unit requirements for completing a certificate program, or for assessing continuing progress with respect to financial aid, or the status of international students on F1 visas. All certificate programs at UCLA Extension require professional-level English language proficiency in listening and note-taking, reading comprehension and vocabulary, written expression, and oral presentation. If you would like to refine your English language proficiency prior to beginning one of our programs, we offer English as a Second Language programs and an array of classes in Communication and Learning Skills. UCLA Extension may change the content and course requirements of a certificate program at any time. To prevent being impacted by possible changes in the course requirements, students are encouraged strongly to enroll in the certificate of their choice as early as possible following their selection of a program. Only those whose paid certificate application fees have been accepted are assured of completion of a certificate under its current requirements. Courses within the curriculum are expected to be completed by the end of normal candidacy which is cited above. Candidacies can be renewed under certain circumstances. Students with older records may be required to repeat material to ensure its relevance. Students who complete their curriculum with an earned GPA of 3.5 or higher will have the notation "earned with distinction" posted to their transcript and printed on their certificates. For other information about candidacies and the service environment, see about certificate candidacy. UCLA is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). This program was developed and is administered in accordance with regulations of the Academic Senate of the University of California. For the prospective international student seeking an F1 visa to enter the U.S., either thetest of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), or the International English Language Testing System s (IELTS) exam will be required if English is not his or her first language. The minimum requirements can vary from program to program. See above for the minimum score required for admission to study in this program. Students with a score of 79 to 100 on TOEFL (or 6.5 to 7 on IELTS) will be required upon arrival to take a supplementary exam (the English as a Second Language Placement Exam, or ESLPE) administered at UCLA for assignment in one of two levels of supplementary English language courses. Students who score higher than 100 on the TOEFL, (or higher than 7 on IELTS), or who are native English speakers, are exempt from taking the ESLPE and from supplementary English language instruction. International students on F1 visas are required by U.S. law to enroll full-time (12 units per quarter) in courses that lead to the award of their certificate. To both meet this requirement and to progress in a structured curriculum, international students may be required to supplement their term study list with elective courses, and ultimately to graduate with more than the minimum units or courses otherwise required. We recommend you contact the advisor listed above if you have any questions about the duration of study.

Post-Completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) OPT allows you to work in the United States and earn money in an occupation directly related to your area of study for one year following graduation. Before you apply: Complete at least three consecutive quarters (nine months) of full-time study as an F-1 visa student in your certificate program (full-time ESL programs do not count). Complete your certificate program before OPT work starts, including all English courses required by the ESLPE results. If you do not complete your program on time, you cannot begin working and you will lose time from OPT. Training & Internships International students on F-1 visas are prohibited from working in the U.S. without permission. However, limited opportunities exist for on-the-job training during and after-certificate programs. Volunteer Internships (unpaid internships) Most internships that occur during a certificate program are voluntary and unpaid. Not all programs offer them; you will need to check with your program advisor. You do not have to complete 9 months in your program before taking a voluntary internship. If voluntary internships are available in your program, you must have the internship approved by your program advisor. You do not need International Student Office (ISO) approval for a voluntary internship. Curricular Practical Training (CPT- paid internships) These paid internships occur during a certificate program. Not all programs offer them; check with your program advisor. These internships must be approved first by your program advisor.

If your program advisor approves CPT, you also must report to the ISO for approval. Post-completion Optional Practical Training (OPT paid internships) You must first complete a program of 9 months or longer. You must work with the ISO to apply for OPT and pay a fee. If your application for OPT is approved, you are eligible for a one-year paid internship. Tips for Finding Internships and Post-Completion Jobs Establish an excellent record with your advisor and instructors for good references and recommendations. Consult with the academic advisor for your program and find out where other students have found internships. Network with classmates. Some will be working professionals who may provide references, recommendations, and referrals. Check if your program offers internships or has a list of organizations that accept interns. Find out if you are eligible to apply. Seek out internships in other, unlisted organizations and check if you can obtain approval. For post-completion and off-campus jobs, network with program participants, instructors, and your program advisor.
