2. Contents and objectives of the program The aim of the program is to work at the intersection between China s long-term structural transformations in socio-political, economic and cultural terms, and those particularly salient recent trends that inform international debate at the present time. Specifically, this year s Summer School will parse the national, regional and global impact of reforms launched at the 3 rd and 4 th Plenary Session of the 18 th Central Committee of the CPC in 2013 and 2014. The first OrizzonteCina Summer Symposium a new stand-alone international event embedded in the School s program, supported by the OrizzonteCina e-journal will focus on the New Silk Road strategy, and China s westward projection through Central Asia. To secure pluralism of disciplinary and intellectual perspectives, TOChina Summer School faculty members include both academics and policy experts, from a variety of fields, including Economics, Economic History, International Political Economy, International Relations, Political Philosophy and Culture, Political Science, and Sociology. In-class activities run from Monday to Friday from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm, featuring lectures, seminars, extensive Q&A sessions and TOChina s renowned scenario-making exercise. The OrizzonteCina Summer Symposium takes place on Saturday 4 th July. The TOChina Summer School is held at the Luigi Einaudi Campus of the University of Torino and at the Torino World Affairs Institute. The program is suitable for both those wishing to study the domestic aspects of China s politics and for participants intending to explore the rapidly evolving dynamics of Asian and global geopolitics and economics. For those looking for insight into future career options, the TOChina Summer School offers a unique opportunity to inquire with senior scholars who are often in charge of PhD programs in their country, and affiliated to a variety of organizations. The cherished informal sessions that TOChina faculty members accept to have with participants after class are a trademark of TOChina s hands-on approach. Page 2 of 10
