Skutt Catholic High School Mission Statement V.J. and Angela Skutt Catholic High School forms and educates young men and women to become Christian leaders who empower others, promote justice, and initiate change. Skutt Catholic High School Guidance Department Mission Statement The Skutt Catholic High School guidance counselors strive to make a difference in the lives of the students, families, faculty and staff we serve. As our students are being molded into the Christian leaders of the future, our department's mission is to provide access to resources and information, to respond to student and family crisis, and to facilitate academic, college, career and personal/social development. 2

Guidance Staff Kathy Beckman - Director of Guidance Mrs. Beckman has been a Guidance Counselor at SCHS since 1996. She received her Master s Degrees in Counseling from Creighton, in Health from Northwest Missouri State, and in Physical Education from Wayne State College. Her undergraduate degrees in Physical Education and Speech were earned at Wayne State College. She has over forty years of experience in the field of education. Kristen Reeves Guidance Counselor The 2013-2014 school year is Mrs. Reeves twelfth year as a Guidance Counselor at Skutt Catholic High School. For the five years prior she taught AP English Literature and Composition and Senior English here at SCHS. She earned her Master s Degree in Counseling from the of Nebraska-Omaha and a Master's Degree in School Administration from Creighton, and her undergraduate degrees in English and Secondary Education from Briar Cliff College. Kevin Schumacher Guidance Counselor In addition to being an integral part of the Social Studies Department at SCHS where he teaches AP Psychology, Mr. Schumacher serves as a three quarter time Guidance Counselor. He received his Master s Degree in Counseling from the of Nebraska Omaha. His undergraduate degree in Secondary Education with Social Science and Special Education Endorsements came after serving 4 ½ years in the United States Air Force. Elizabeth Hajek Administrative Assistant The 2013-2014 school year is Mrs. Hajek's second in the guidance department. However, her history in the education field and with Skutt Catholic is extensive. She graduated from California State with a BA in Liberal Studies, taught full time in Sacramento and Mainz, Germany, and substitute taught in the many locations her husband s army career has taken her. She has been involved with education for 27 years and is a proud parent of a Skutt Catholic Alumnus. 3

Skutt Catholic High School and Community V.J. and Angela Skutt Catholic High School is a coeducational, secondary, archdiocesan, college preparatory school and is fully accredited by AdvancED and by the State of Nebraska. Skutt Catholic High School s first graduating class graduated in 1996. Student Body The student population is 681 in grades 9-12. The ethnic/racial background is 92% Caucasian. 91.5% are Catholic. 52% of students are male, and 48% are female. The surrounding SCHS community is composed of moderate to high income families; however, a wide range of socioeconomic levels are represented. 31% of our students receive tuition assistance to attend SCHS. Ninth graders in 2013-2014 reside in 21 different zip codes and are from 30 different middle schools. Faculty The certified faculty is made up of 57 teachers, counselors and administrators. 74% have advanced degrees and 40% have 20 or more years of teaching experience. The average teacher at Skutt Catholic has 18.6 years of experience. Scheduling All but three of the courses at SCHS meet daily for 45 minutes. The other three courses are interdisciplinary block classes that meet daily for 90 minutes. These courses are: American Studies and Honors American Studies- These courses are a combination of American Literature and American History. One of these courses is required for all juniors. Senior Studies This course is a combination of Social Studies (Economics) and Theology. It is a required course for seniors. 6

Transcripts SCHS transcripts include course names and grades for every semester of the high school career (including semesters spent at other schools if the student transferred to SCHS).Transcripts also include yearly reported cumulative weighted and unweighted GPAs, and class rank. College admissions test scores are not included on the transcript. 7

In 2013, 35 graduating seniors (27%) earned full tuition college scholarships. Skutt Catholic students have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Organization every year since the school s inception; including, in the past six years, 6 students in the Class of 2009, 5 students in the Class of 2010, 8 in the Class of 2011, 6 students in the class of 2012, 4 students in the Class of 2013 and 5 students in the Class of 2014. 9
