10SIGNS IT S TIME TO REPLACE YOUR HVAC UNIT 321.631.8411 OR321.452.8585 3280 Highway US 1 Rockledge, FL 32955 www.ellingtonac.com

For Florida residents, comfort is key. You don t want to be stuck without air conditioning when record highs are predicted. It is common for HVAC systems in Florida to get a lot of wear and tear as the years go by. With so much use, they are bound to need replacement more often. Replacing your HVAC system is a significant investment, so you want to make sure that the replacement is necessary and done correctly. Did you know that according to various studies over 90% of new installations have efficiency robbing deficiencies? Being able to identify the signs can help you make the best well-informed decision possible. If you are currently considering replacing your HVAC system, then chances are that you may be experiencing some of these signs already. 2

1YOUR SYSTEM IS OLD An old system is the number one reason to have your HVAC unit replaced. Especially in Florida, where air conditioning units get so much use, age matters. If your HVAC unit is 10-12 years old, then it is time to be replaced. These units are not only prone to more maintenance problems; they are also very inefficient when compared to newer units. These older and/or inferior units tend to run constantly and still won t cool your home. 3

2YOUR SYSTEM NEEDS FREQUENT REPAIRS Are you on a first name basis with the repairman? Frequent repairs can be costly, as well as frustrating. You may think you are saving some money by repairing your current unit instead of replacing it, but these costs add up. After a few of these failure calls, you could have paid for the cost of replacement. 4

3THE RISE OF COST IN YOUR UTILITIES Month after month, your energy bill just seems to get more expensive. High utility bills could be a sign that you are using an inefficient HVAC unit. Replacing your current system with an efficient one could result in significant savings and even tax credits. 5

4YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY ISSUES Of course you want your family to be safe. Did you know that some HVAC units may be a threat to your safety. If you have gone more than a few years without having an inspection, your family might be at risk. Without regular inspections, you could end up with a dangerous carbon monoxide leak. Regular inspections can help ensure your HVAC unit is safe and does not need to be replaced. 6

5YOU WANT TO SELL YOUR HOME Many homeowners find that it is difficult to sell their home with an older or even used HVAC unit. Not only is a new system a selling point, you won t have to worry about potential buyers finding any surprises during inspection. Consider replacing your HVAC unit as an upgrade to your home, similar to upgrading your counter-tops or flooring. 7

6 A HIGHER LEVEL OR INCONSISTENT TEMPERATURES Humidity problems can be caused by leaky ductwork, malfunctioning equipment, or a variety of other problems. Florida is already humid enough. You shouldn t have the added worry of an HVAC system that is causing your home to be even more humid. If your home feels like a wet blanket or you experience some rooms warmer than others, you should definitely consider replacing your HVAC unit. 8

7YOUR HOME IS EXCESSIVELY DUSTY It s normal for houses to get dusty, but if you begin to notice excessive dust, there may be a bigger problem. Poorly sealed ducts can pull dust from basements and attics and distribute these particles in other places in your home. Dusty homes are bad for allergies and make your home appear dirty. Too much dust in the air could be a sign that it s time to replace your HVAC unit. 9

8YOUR SYSTEM IS LEAKING WATER Leaking water is common in air conditioning units, but that puddle of water next to your air conditioner is a big red flag. You may simply need to get the unit repaired or this could be a sign of a much bigger problem. Make sure you get an expert opinion in order to find out whether you need a repair or replacement 10

9 YOUR SYSTEM IS NOISY Sometimes our HVAC systems cry out to be replaced! This is the case with loud HVAC units. If you are hearing bumps in the night (or day) then replacement may be an option for you. Older units are often more noisy, but this could also be an indication that your unit is on its last leg. 11

10A PROFESSIONAL HAS RECOMMENDED A NEW UNIT It s difficult to deny the opinion of an HVAC professional, yet many homeowners do. If a professional comes to service your unit and suggests a replacement, you should take this advice. Many people have ended up regretting their choice when they ignore an expert. Don t wait until its 100 degrees out to deal with the problem. 12
