Adding and Dropping this Course: Course Rules and Expectations Each student is responsible for adding and/or withdrawing from this course. The last day to add this course with instructor consent (permission number) is August 31, 2015. The last day to withdraw from this course for no grade is August 31, 2015. The last day to withdraw from the course and receive a grade of W is October 5, 2015. Attendance Policy: Attendance is required in this course. No absences will be excused. Attendance is critical to teaching and learning. You will fall behind in acquiring course content and skills if you do not attend every class. Situations can occur, however, that are beyond your control and require you to miss class(es). If you miss a class, make arrangements with a classmate to keep you informed on lecture topics, handouts, and assignments. See course content and grading criteria for online attendance requirements. All material necessary to be successful in this course is not necessarily found in the textbook or Blackboard site. You must be present to receive credit for attendance, exams, extra credit, quizzes, and assignments. Assignments must be turned in by due dates. No make-ups of any kind will be allowed. Contact the instructor immediately if extenuating circumstances will prevent you from attending class. E-mail is the best way to communicate with the instructor. Instructor will respond to e-mails within 24 hours of receipt. Though instructor may respond on weekends students should not expect responses on weekends. Instructor reserves the right to withdraw students for lack of attendance (missing 2 or more classes in a row) or lack of progress. Should you miss class, you should refer to the class Blackboard site for class announcements, lecture notes, syllabus, weekly schedule, in class and homework practice exercise and problem solutions, and exam study guides. Students must be present to earn extra credit offered in class. Tardiness: Classes will begin promptly at 7:00 AM Attendance will be taken at the start of each class. Promptness is expected. See course content and grading criteria for online attendance requirements. No make ups due to tardiness allowed. Assignments: Completing ALL assignments is critical to success in this course. Completing and understanding all assignments will enhance success on all assessments and future assignments. Please contact instructor via e-mail or at the start of each class with questions on assignments. Working papers for all exercises and problems are located in the course Blackboard site. The course Blackboard site also has link to problem solutions to check student work. Homework assignment solutions will be available on the Blackboard site on the date each chapter is started in class. See the weekly schedule for practice set assigned and due dates. Academic Honesty: All tests and assignments are to be the work of the student. Any exams or assigned work that is turned in by the student for a grade, but, is not the original work of that student will be deemed unacceptable and the student will receive zero points for that work. You are not allowed to view the ebook from MAL during the exams, so I highly recommend you purchase the bundle (book and MAL Access code) at MCC Bookstore (Approx. $120 w/out tax), so you can have access to your book during exams. It is your responsibility to complete the homework & quiz assignments on time and late homework/quiz due online will be penalized by 10% per day per problem not completed. Unless approved by the instructor no Homework will be graded after 72 hours of due date. You will be able to access HW in MAL 5 times and Quiz 3 times at 2 hour intervals during each week. In order to ensure your maximum grade and learning benefit from the homework assignments, I would urge not to wait until the last minute to submit your assignments. Allow yourself a cushion prior to the deadline and avoid the stress of something malfunctioning hours before the assignment is due. There is a direct correlation between success on the exams and diligent effort on the homework. By seriously attempting to solve the HW problems, you will learn the material.
DUE DATES: The due dates for all assignments and the scheduled dates for lecture topics, reviews, and exams are clearly listed on the class schedule that you will receive. Therefore, I expect to you to come to class prepared. In the event there is an emergency and you didn t plan properly, late homework assignments will be accepted online at a 10% penalty per day, at the prior approval of the instructor with the exception of the last week due to grading deadlines. ATTENDANCE & CLASS BEHAVIOR: Regular attendance for the full class period is important as well as being fully prepared for the class. Also, be sure not to miss any classes during the first two weeks, and not miss more than TWO total classes for the semester. Violations subject you to being dropped at instructor s sole discretion. Students who stop attending are still responsible to complete all necessary paperwork if dropped. This is an early morning class, so please make every effort to be on time. An attendance sheet will be sent around at beginning or end of each class and will be an element of class participation. In the event that you do miss a class, I strongly suggest that you make arrangements with a classmate to go over the material that was presented or visit the class website. Cell phones, IPADS and pagers etc... Are to be turned off while in class as a common courtesy both to your fellow students and me. Please don t use your cell phone as your calculator; you will need to bring in a simple calculator and no cell phones out during class. Please don t bring food or uncovered beverages into the classroom. Respect your fellow students and Instructor. Participate and act interested in the subject which will create a better learning environment for everyone. CLASS PARTICIPATION & IN CLASS ACTIVITIES: To obtain full class participation points, you need to be on time for class and be awake enough to interact. This is an early morning class, so if that is not possible, then please consider another time slot. Other components of class participation include: interacting in class, demonstrating problems on the board or in groups, sharing relevant accounting stories from your employment and bringing old-fashioned by hand homework into the class. You will be glad you were required to do by hand homework when you have to create financial statements from scratch in an exam. It is often difficult to prepare financials on a blank sheet of paper when you are used to doing all of the homework on-line and become dropdown-box dependent. Reading logs will be turned in at the start of each class; late logs are not accepted, not even after five minutes, so it pays to be early or at least on time. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: Any cheating or plagiarism of any kind will absolutely not be tolerated. No exceptions. At the discretion of the instructor, plagiarism and/or cheating will result in either an F for the assignment. In addition, student disciplinary action could result in an F for the course. See Mira Costa College s 2014/2015 Catalogue for further guidelines regarding the school s policy on this topic. CLASS WITHDRAWAL RULES: Students are responsible to complete all necessary paperwork if they decide to withdraw from class. As Instructors we must take strong steps to insure all students are attending and active. Therefore, the Instructor retains complete discretion to process a Withdrawal (Drop) for students without additional notice for any of the following (unless discussed with Instructor and approved in advance) * Failure to input all required information on the Blackboard class web site by the end of the FIRST week of the semester. * Failure to complete any assignment during the first two weeks of the semester * Missing ANY class during the first two weeks * Missing 2 consecutive classes or 2 total classes during the semester * Failure to complete 2 consecutive or 2 total Discussion Boards * Failure to complete 2 consecutive or 2 total Assignments of any type * Failure to complete ANY exam Students are responsible to complete all necessary paperwork if they decide to withdraw from class.
