Allaway Scholarship to California The Scholarship will provide the following: A place for a full year voluntary student to study at one of the UC campuses. You will select 4 campuses and California make the final decision as to which campus you will attend $3000. A tuition fee waiver at the University of California (you will still need to pay University of Sussex fees for the year but this will be at a reduced amount). You will be responsible for: return air fare, insurance, rent, living expenses and visa costs. You will need to provide a financial guarantee. Costs vary considerably at each of the University of California campuses and you might want to take this into account when making your choice of campuses. You will, of course, still be eligible for the UK student loan (if applicable). Eligibility Requirements You must be a full-time undergraduate student at the University of Sussex. The Scholarship is open to students in any academic discipline except integrated year abroad (American Studies and language studies major and minors,) and students on the following programmes: Law, Business and Engineering students The competition is open to current second years and those in the second year of a four-year programme (i.e. you cannot be going into your final year in 2017/18) APPLICATION DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY 18 TH NOVEMBER
US Financial Guarantee Students going to the US will be required to complete a financial guarantee form in January 2016 for all US campuses. The amount will depend on where you choose to go. Your UK student loan can be used but there may be a shortfall of at least 3,000. You will be paying 15% of your current tuition fee to Sussex and no tuition fee to your exchange campus. The tuition fee loan is separate from your student loan and you will not have the surplus towards your year abroad. You will need to budget for health and travel insurance (this may be from 650 to 1,500 depending on your campus, the duration of stay and the exchange rate at the time you go). Factor in the costs of $160 for your visa fee, and another $180-$200 SEVIS fee [these may go up]
IMPORTANT Passports - ensure your passport does not expire before December 2017, if necessary renew asap Inoculations/vaccinations - be prepared to show evidence of all inoculations and it may be necessary to have a course of Hep B Money
