Email Security Enhancements 3/9/15 CU Recovery and The Loan Service Center recently implemented security enhancements to our email system. This feature allows emails containing sensitive data to be securely transmitted without fear of a data breach. Emails deemed to contain Personal Financial Information going forward will need to be transmitted to and from CUR/LSC via this new secure email system. NOTE: If you would like to send us a document containing Personal Financial Information please send via our website using the Secure Document Upload. What type of emails are flagged as containing Personal Financial Information (PFI) that will need to be sent and received securely? Social Security Number Any email containing a SSN. NOTE: Any email that contains 9 digits listed consecutively or in standard SSN format (i.e., 123-12-1234) will be rejected if not using a secure email option. ABA Routing Number Any email containing an ABA routing number. Audio File Audio files sent from CUR/LSC will be sent using our new secure email feature. Sending audio files to CUR/LSC will not require a secure email option, but you may choose to use it at your discretion. Documents - If an email contains a document that our filter cannot scan it must be sent using a secure email option or uploaded to our website using Secure Document Exchange. NOTE: Any attachment that cannot be properly scanned or found containing PFI will be stripped from the email. The recipient will see the following warning when they open the email: An attachment with possible PFI was removed. The recipient will need to contact the sender. How do I open secure email sent from CU Recovery/LSC? You will receive an email showing the information below. Follow these email instructions. You will be taken to a designated website where you will create a login ID and password. The login ID will be your email address.
Once a password is created you will be able to login and access the secure email. ***NOTE: This password is NOT held/editable/or viewable to anyone at CUR/LSC. You can reply to secure emails as you would any email sent to you. Your reply email and any attachments will be sent through the secure email system.
What will happen if I try to send an email with Personal Financial Information (PFI) to CUR/LSC through my regular email? You will receive the following Delivery Failure Notification if Personal Financial Information is detected. If you receive this notification you will need to resend the email using a secure email option or upload the document via our website using the Secure Document Exchange. Email confirmation notifications You have the option to receive a confirmation email when the recipient opens the secure email. Once signed in click on Member Center and then click on Preferences. Once in Preferences go to Receive e-mail receipts and select Yes. Then click the Save button in the bottom left hand corner before navigating away.
Can I forward secure emails to others at my credit union? Yes, but you will need to provide your personal password to allow the recipient to open the email. Can I create a new secure email to send to CUR/LSC? You will NOT have the option to compose a new email message using CU Recovery s secure email system. You can only receive and reply to secure messages. To send Personal Financial Information or documents containing PFI we recommend using the Secure Document Exchange feature on our website. How do I extended the expiration period for the secure messages in my mailbox? By default all messages in this mailbox will expire after 30 days. The expiration period for messages in your mailbox can be extended up to two years. Will all email communications with CUR/LSC need to be through this new secure system? No, only emails that contain sensitive personal data that you do not want to share with anyone else for security reasons. All other emails can be sent through a regular email system.
