This paper presents put forward design of flexible standalone, low cost smart home system, which is based on the Android ADK communicating with the Arduino Platform providing home security and emergency system to be activated. Devices such as light switches, power plugs, Temperature sensors, Touch sensor, Sound sensor, intrusion detection sensors, smoke/gas sensors, IR sensor and sirens with bilking LED have been integrated in the system to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed smart home system. The smart home app is tested and it is able successfully perform the smart home operations such as switching functionalities, automatic environmental control and intrusion detection, in the later case where message will be come to your smart phone and the siren goes on. As well as we can control functionalities by android application. The main objective of home automation and security is to help handicapped and old aged people who will enable them to control home appliance and alert them in critical situations. Home automation not only refers to reduce human efforts but also energy efficiency and time saving. The main objective of home automation and security is to help handicapped and old aged people who will enable them to control home appliances and alert them in critical situations. The device with low cost and scalable to less modification to the core is much important. It presents the design and implementation of automation system that can monitor and control home appliances via android phone or tablet. Smart home is a home equipped with special facilities to enable occupants to control o program an array of automated home electronic devices. For example, a homeowner on vacation can arm a home security system, control temperature gauges, switch appliances on or off, control lighting program a home heater or entertainment system, and perform many other tasks. * Corresponding Author If a simple mobile phone takes the added responsibility to control the smart home then the control is reachable from almost everywhere people travels and lives on earth. Mobile telephony offers a wide range of communication services like voice and data transfer through SMS and other enhanced data transfer protocols like GPRS, EDGE at a relatively low price and at a wide variety of places on the earth. On the other hand, the security is better achieved by the use of strict traffic control. We adhered to this method of remote controlling of home appliances because of its unparallel availability and modest security at the affordable price. Home automation is automation of the home, housework or household activity. Home automation may include centralized control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, and other systems, to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security. The concept of home automation has been around for a long time and products have been on the market for decades, though no one solution has broken through to the mainstream yet. It can also provide a remote interface to

home appliances or the automation system itself, via telephone line, wireless transmission or the internet, to provide control and monitoring via a smart phone or web browser. BLOCK DIAGRAM: 2 IMPLEMENTATION Each of the 14 digital pins on the Nano can be used as an input or output, using pinmode(), digital Write(), and digital Read() functions. They operate at 5 volts. Each pin can provide or receive a maximum of 40 ma and has an internal pull-up resistor (disconnected by default) of 20-50 k ohms. In addition, some pins have specialized functions: Serial: 0 (RX) and 1 (TX). Used to receive (RX) and transmit (TX) TTL serial data. These pins are connected to the corresponding pins of the FTDI USB-to-TTL Serialchip.External Interrupts: 2 and 3. These pins can be configured to trigger an interrupt on low value, a rising or falling edge, or a change in value. See the attach Interrupt () function for details. PWM: 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, and 11. Provide 8- bit PWM output with the analogwrite()function. h SPI: 10 (SS), 11 (MOSI), 12 (MISO), 13 (SCK). These pins support SPI communication, which, although provided by the underlying hardware, is not currently included in the Arduino language. LED: 13. There is a built-in LED connected to digital pin 13. When the pin is HIGH value, the LED is on, when the pin is LOW, it's off. ARDUINO NANO CONTROLLER ATMEGA328 The Arduino Nano is a small, complete, and breadboard-friendly board based on the ATmega328 (Arduino Nano 3.0).It has more or less the same functionality of the Arduino Duemilanove, but in a different package. It lacks only a DC power jack, and works with a Mini-B USB cable instead of a standard one. The Arduino Nano can be powered via the Mini-B USB connection, 6-20Vunregulated external power supply (pin 30), or 5V regulated external power supply (pin 27). The power source is automatically selected to the highest voltage source.theatmega328 has 32 KB, (also with 2 KB used for the boot loader). the ATmega328has 2 KB of SRAM and 1 KB of EEPROM. The Nano has 8 analog inputs, each of which provides 10 bits of resolution (i.e. 1024different values). By default they measure from ground to 5 volts, though is it possible to change the upper end of their range using the analogreference() function. Additionally, some pins have specialized functionality: The Arduino Nano has a number of facilities for communicating with a computer, another Arduino, or other microcontrollers. The ATmega168 and ATmega328 provide UART TTL (5V) serial communication, which is available on digital pins 0(RX) and 1 (TX). The Arduino software includes a serial monitor which allows simple textual data to be sent to and from the Arduino board. The RX and TX LEDs on the board will flash when data is being transmitted via the FTDI chip and USB connection to the computer Rather then requiring a physical press of the reset button before an upload, the Arduino Nano is designed in a way that allows it to be reset by software running on a connected computer. One of the hardware flow control lines (DTR) of the FT232RL is connected to the reset line of the ATmega328 via a 100 nanofarad capacitor. When this line is asserted (taken low), the reset line drops long enough to reset the chip. The Arduino software uses this capability to allow you to upload code by simply pressing the upload button in the Arduino environment.

3 SENSORS TEMPERATURE SENSOR [LM 35] Its takes temperature variance as analog input and gives output on arduino nano board. The LM35 series are precision integrated-circuit 2 temperature sensors, with an output voltage linearly proportional to the Centigrade temperature. Thus the LM35 has an advantage over linear temperature sensors calibrated in X Kelvin, as the user is not required to subtract a large constant voltage from the output to obtain convenient Centigrade scaling. snapshot of the still room. If any move after that period the alarm pin will go low and we get alert message. TOUCH SENSOR: INFRARED SENSOR It s a hand made sensor, in this sensor actual principal based on a flow electron in the foil. During a flowing of electron if we touch a foil at that time some variation occurs into this. And we get alert message on mobile. It is connected to arduno nano controller. It is very useful sensor. In infrared sensor has two transmitter and receiver section. It checks interrupt in between transmitter and receiver give output as glowing led and blinking siren. GSM SIM 300 MODULE: SOUND SENSOR Sound sensor is simple microphone. It detect the sound in free environment.it is connected with the arduino contrlller, during the operation a system when the is detected at microphone it alert us via ringing a siren. GSM is a global system for mobile communication GSM is an international digital cellular telecommunication.gsm has become the most widely adopted and fastest-growing digital cellular standard, and it is positioned to become the world s dominant cellular standard. In our system the main used of the GSM SIM 300 is to controlled our home appliances via to make a call or sending a message with the help of smart phone its connected with the arduino controller. MOTION / PIR SENSOR: This is simple to use motion sensor. Power it up and wait 1-2 sec for the sensor to get a
