THE FOUNDATION: WHO AND WHAT? The Foundation is a non-profit organization that for the last 20 years has been working to promote the quality of life and the sustainable development of the territory of Padua and Rovigo. It is inspired by a a vision of an open, cooperating community aiming at innovation. It pursuits these goals with two different kinds of activities: 1 It invests its big patrimony over 1,7 billion euros to produce income 2 It uses the produced income to: safeguard and increase its patrimony; support, promote and plan projects mainly in the fields of scientific research, education, art and cultural activities, health and environment, assistance and protection of weak groups. HOW DOES THE FOUNDATION WORK? 1 It disburses grants to non-profit organizations to support the carrying out of projects and initiatives by selecting among the demands that it receives: In response to the publication of its own ban by which it solicits the submission of projects in specific fields of support actions. Without any specific request. 2 It carries out projects developed independently ( Its own projects ) that in some cases are managed directly by the Foundation personnel while in other cases are carried out in collaboration with other organizations. All these activities are carried out on the basis of the goals and strategies defined in the Long-term Programmatic Report and in the Annual Programmatic Report. These documents can be looked up in the website www.fondazionecariparo.it THE FOUNDATION S ROLES SUPPORT PROMOTION INNOVATION It supports projects submitted by third parties that have a positive impact on the community It promotes innovative projects selected on the basis of merit or needs criteria by encouraging the involvement of external parties It tests new approaches to social problems (either expressed or latent ones) by adopting innovative tools that otherwise couldn t be experimented 6
WHO CAN APPLY FOR A GRANT? In order to benefit from a grant it is necessary to: have legal status or be a member of the following registers: - Regional Register of voluntary Organizations - Register of Social Promotion Associations - Register of amateur sports societies and associations set up at the CONI Italian National Olympic Committee. be a non-profit organization; operate permanently in the areas of intervention of the Foundation and, particularly, in those ones which the support is directed to. On the contrary, the following categories can t obtain grants: Individuals (except for scholarships, for research and the like, which have to be awarded through competitions and a selection made by special committees); Parties, political movements, trade unions or charitable institutions and trade associations. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH WHAT IT DID IN 2010 Approved grants: 8.981.690 million euros Some financed projects: Supporting 87 outstanding projects in the field of scientific research which were selected by the method of the international peer rewieving A competition among entrepreneurial projects in the field of nanotechnologies coming from all over the world THE MISSION The Foundation aims at leading local scientific research to compete with the best international scientific realities. It believes in the criterion that an increase in the quality of research leads to an enhancement of its results in terms of the economic and social development of the territory. A project which welcomes world-renowned professors to the University of Padua in order to enhance the quality of the teaching methods of the University WHAT IT IS PLANNING TO DO IN 2011 Disposable resources: 9 million euros Guidelines: encouraging first-rate scientific research; rewarding merit when awarding funds to Research, by resorting once again to the method of Peer Rewievers; promoting the creation on the territory of technological shared platforms thus encouraging a multidisciplinary approach to problems; supporting the transfer of results and skills from the world of research to the world of services and enterprises; paying particular attention to the sector of biomedicine since this scientific research can have significant consequences for the improvement of health conditions; fostering the drawing of talents and the exchange of professors on an international scale; promoting the growth of young researchers by offering them more learning and research opportunities abroad; encouraging more international collaborations for the groups of researchers of the territory. EDUCATION WHAT IT DID IN 2010 Approved grants: 10.829.652 million euros Some financed projects: THE MISSION The foundation aims at encouraging a wide-ranging and varied educational growth, by increasing all the opportunities available for children, young and grown up people. It carries it out by paying particular attention to the weakest groups of the community in order to contribute to the improvement of individuals and of social relationships in the territory. WHAT IT IS PLANNING TO DO IN 2011 Disposable resources: 11.000.000 million euros Guidelines: the Foundation s projects for School The Foundation offered supplementary teaching activities for schools of all levels in the provinces of Padua and Rovigo. They enriched the educational path of young people with 19 teaching projects and one competition Projects for student exchange: 50 scholarships for Fondazione Intercultura International exchange Time Project - Top industrial managers of Europe Internationalization Project Progetto Veneto per l eccellenza improving the educational offer with projects and extra-curricula activities; fostering the introduction of innovative teaching methods and courses; training young people to science and technology, to the respect for the environment and to the concept of an active and responsible community; facilitating integration and fostering the admittance to Education of either foreign or belonging to minorities children and young people; facilitating integration and fostering the admittance to Education of disabled children and young people; promoting social participation and young people s creativity so as they can appreciate the value and richness of diversity; promoting a closer relation between the educational training and its subsequent working steps, by supporting their development from an international viewpoint, too; fostering university level education; promoting a well-blended growth of human resources in the territory by supporting those areas which are more in trouble. 10

The Venetian 18 th Century Palazzo Roverella Rovigo 30 th January -13 th June 2010 THE MISSION The Foundation aims at acting so as art and culture are an enlightening opportunity and become more and more a highly quality experience at the disposal of the whole community. leading tools for a changing world A series of lectures on Crisis, new responsibilities and new patterns of economic and territorial development with first-rate speakers: Joaquìn Navarro Valls, Alberto Alesina, Jacques Attali, Angelo Scola, Giuliano Amato, Dambisa Moyo, Claudia Kemfert Theatre in Badia Polesine WHAT IT IS PLANNING TO DO IN 2011 Disposable resources: 8.000.000 million euros Guidelines: enhancing the value of artistic and cultural heritage in order to foster the economic and social development, the growth and the competitiveness of the territory; promoting a significant cultural planning also in view of an increase of visitors in the territory; supporting and enhancing the value of creative activities in the field of artistic and cultural production, by drawing particular attention to young artists growth and development; fostering the approach to artistic and cultural events for larger audiences, especially for young people; promoting the creation of events (exhibitions, concerts, shows, etc.) also in small places of the territory so as to offer to local communities further opportunities of cultural enriching; The La Fondazione Foundation Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo: in abstract pillole promoting the spread of knowledge Italy and the restoration of the magnificent crater Palazzo del Quirinale Rome 11 th December 2010-6 th February 2011 Restoration of one of the most interesting nineteenth-century theatres in Veneto: closed starting from the early 20 th century, it was reopened to the audience May 17, 2011 for all citizens through the carrying out of specific initiatives. 11

HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT THE MISSION Contributing towards the improvement of health conditions in the territory and to the protection of the environment as a necessary requirement for the growth of present and future generations. WHAT IT DID IN 2010 Approved grants: 10.599.066 million euros WHAT IT IS PLANNING TO DO IN 2011 Disposable resources: 8.000.000 million euros 12 Some financed projects: Project for predictive oncological screenings A project for oncologic and mammographic, rectal colon and cytological screenings in collaboration with Regione Veneto, Ulss nr. 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and IOV Istituto Oncologico Veneto - where over 88.500 people underwent checkups Observatory Po Delta This project was intended to be a collection point for information about the Po Delta in order to devise and plan cultural, social and economic interventions of territorial redevelopment Project for First Aid Equipments Ban for the purchase of motor vehicles or medical fixtures intended for the activity of emergency assistance. It allowed the purchase of 29 motor vehicles and fixtures Purchase of innovative medical fixtures The purchase of big equipments for the hospitals of Padua and Rovigo: Simultac Magnetic resonance with open magnet PET/RM tomography and emission of positrons/ magnetic resonance Guidelines for Health: supporting actions and interventions addressed to the prevention, research and treatment of those illnesses which are the main causes of death in the territory, by paying particular attention to the ones concerning the cardio-circulatory system; carrying on with the support to the activity of oncological screening; fostering a better efficiency of services and sociomedical facilities so as to increase the quality of performances, an improvement that could be achieved also through the purchase of specific clinical equipments; stimulating and supporting outstanding research in the biomedical sector. Guidelines for Environment: contributing in reducing the level of air, water and environmental pollution in the area; fostering higher awareness in the citizens towards environmental matters by encouraging the adoption of virtuous behaviours; enhancing the value of natural parks, promoting the characteristic qualities of local agriculture and protecting the biodiversity of the territory.

ASSISTANCE AND PROTECTION OF WEAK GROUPS WHAT IT DID IN 2010 Approved grants: 16.590.839 million euros Some financed projects: Project for the Social World Socialization Project THE MISSION The Foundation aims at encouraging the all-round self-fulfilment of the individual and his/her complete social integration, by promoting the best conditions for his/her independence (decision-making, psycho-physical, economic and social ones) in a background of oneness and cooperation. Project for Early Childhood WHAT IT IS PLANNING TO DO IN 2011 Disposable resources: 13.000.000 million euros Guidelines: fostering a permanent and qualified working placement; involving young people and teenagers in projects which can help them to develop their own abilities and talents, by contrasting any kind of deviance or social isolation; The La Fondazione Foundation Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo: in abstract pillole Project for the Support of Disabled people Integration Project Three bans that allowed the Foundation to carry out 68 projects which foster social integration by promoting the independence of those people who live or could live in conditions of alienation A ban that aimed at improving the educational facilities for early childhood. It allowed the Foundation to build 53 facilities and carry out 66 purchases of goods and fixtures Initiatives supporting the NGO of Padua that operates in order to defend the fundamental human right to Health. supporting assistance and encouraging the process of social integration of people living in conditions of alienation (immigrants, poor and old people, etc.); fostering assistance programmes that can keep the users in their own environmental background and assure them the best conditions of selfsufficiency (home care services); continuing to uphold housing autonomy and to foster the right to housing; identifying, promoting and supporting Emergency Interventions paths of personal independence and of self-responsibility; Emergency in Veneto Emergency in Abruzzo Emergency in Haiti Interventions in support of those populations damaged by dramatic events at a national and international level A training programme for medical and nursery staff in Beira (Mozambique) Initiatives to celebrate the 60 th anniversary of the birth of Cuamm - Doctors with Africa supporting family whose role is fundamental both for the growth and the development of the individual and for his/her care and assistance; promoting philanthropy, participation and social cohesion by fostering the growth of active and responsible citizens. 13
WHAT DID THE FOUNDATION DO IN 2010 AND WHAT IS IT PLANNING TO DO IN 2011? OTHER SECTORS Sport, Civil Protection, Food Safety, Quality Agriculture Approved grants: 2.028.300 million euros Some financed projects: Project SportivaMente Disposable resources: 2.000.000 euro Guidelines for sport: promoting sport in schools; promoting sport awareness, by organizing meetings between world-famous sportsmen and students, families, fans and people working in this sector; supporting the activity carried out by youth sports societies,through the purchase of sports equipments. Guidelines for Food Safety and Quality Agriculture projects for Food Education, mainly addressed to children and young people, in collaboration with schools, too; projects for promoting typical quality products of the provinces of Padua and Rovigo; It is the greatest Italian project for initiating young people into sport by supporting the activity of youth sports societies, by organizing sports events and promoting sports training in schools Guidelines for Civil Protection: supporting the efficiency of the structures dealing with the activities of the Civil Protection; promoting initiatives of awakening and training for citizens and people working in this field so as they can be trained to face emergency situations at their best. 14
