the requirements of a ducts system Current projects for ducts systems rely more and more often on external systems both for architectural reasons and on account of restrictions imposed by design, such as the fitting of air-handling units on roofs. It follows that the duct must comply with technical and constructional requisites which ensure perfect functionality, even when conditions are critical. A proper assessment of the best solution to adopt must take care of traditional factors (thermal insulation, minimum leakage, safety, eco-compatibility, etc.) as well as other more specific aspects such as the following: >> high resistance to atmospheric agents >> high resistance to shock and accidental perforations >> high resistance to wind forces >> high resistance to the weight of snow In order to provide a better response to these parameters, P3 has created, together with the P3ductal Indoor system for interiors, the P3ductal Outdoor system for the construction and laying of preinsulated aluminium ducts for external applications.
P3ductal Outdoor system preinsulated aluminium duct P3ductal Outdoor with 30 mm thickness traditional sheet metal duct external aluminium foil 6/10 mm external sheath gum skin performance and cost-effectiveness Greater speed of construction in comparison to the traditional sheet metal duct: this is the secret of the costeffectiveness of P3ductal Outdoor for the construction of ducts to be used in external applications. P3ductal Outdoor ducts are easy to construct and, being preinsulated, require no addition of further insulation. P3ductal Outdoor is constructed with a highly resistant external aluminium sheet of a thickness of 200 microns, which makes it unnecessary to use the external aluminium foil coating typically used in sheet metal ducts fitted for exteriors. The system - the panel The constructional features that characterise this panel make it particularly rigid and highly resistant to shock and to accidental perforations, which may easily occur in the case of external applications. The Piral HD Hydrotec Outsider panel is constructed with foamed polyurethane of a density of 48 ± 2 kg/m 3, a thickness of 30.5 mm, is coated with embossed aluminium of a thickness of 200 micron on the external side and 80 micron on the internal one. The aluminium is conveniently protected with 2 g/m2 of antioxidant polyester-type lacquer. Thanks to the large number of closed cells, in fact over 95%, the polyurethane foam of the panel offers an initial thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/(m C). The system - the accessories >> P3ductal flanging system: it ensures the perfect union between pieces and also the high tightness of the joints, thus reducing the risk of infiltrations. >> Profiles Outdoor glue (code 21CL09), a special, single-component polyurethane adhesive for the application of profiles and flanges. It guarantees high performance of tightness even when external conditions are particularly aggressive. >> Waterproof sheath Gum Skin: a special rubber sheath which features elastomeric properties, is resistant to UV rays and has excellent behaviour during freezing/thawing cycles. Besides, the special fungicide, bactericide and plasticising additives with internal action ensure the product remains unaltered over time, even in conditions of average industrial pollution. Gum Skin guarantees excellent protection for the ducts system against the formation of algae and fungi as well as high protection against corrosive agents (acid rain, sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide) and UV rays.

Considering the asymmetric structure of the panel, this value has been used for the assessment of extreme outside loads (snow and wind force). As regards the reinforcement system, instead, it becomes necessary to take into account the curves related to the class of rigidity 300,000 Nmm2/mm due to the internal working pressure of the duct. The reinforcement system, constructed by inserting special small tubes of aluminium alloy, proves to be indispensable when high standards of safety are required. The reference standard establishes a maximum deformation on the sides of rectangular ducts which should be equivalent to 3% of the overall size of the duct and, in any case, never higher than 30 mm. In external installations it is necessary to consider the fact that the pressure exercised on ducts by the snow and/or the wind will directly transfer on the bracketing system. For fifty years at the service of the air. For more than 3 generations we have been working in the air distribution ducts field. The P3ductal system is produced in various plants around the world, distributed in more than 40 countries and can count on a widespread sales network, able to give the required support to all its customers and consultants. One of P3 s strong points is the constant research in order to improve the quality of its products. There is a continuous commitment and innovation of its internal laboratories which cooperate in close relationship with various University Research Centres: P3 is able to offer vanguard performances and technologically advanced materials.
