GE Healthcare Instruction 28-9052-35 AA UniFlux 10: hollow fiber conversion kit (03-0089-67) installation instruction Important! Before commencing with the installation, carefully read through this document. Please refer to the drawing included in Customer Binder in the hollow fiber conversion kit for details regarding different parts. Use appropriate personal protective equipment such as protective glasses, and gloves resistant to chemicals used. It is recommended to clean the system before starting installing the hollow fiber, for example by flushing the system with a non-hazardous solution. Scope This instruction provides information of how to reconfigure a UniFlux 10 from cassette to hollow fiber filter. There are two different hollow fiber sizes which can be used for UniFlux 10, Cartridge size 5 and Cartridge size 6. Note: To reconfigure a UniFlux 10 back to cassette from hollow fiber perform all steps in this instruction in reversed order. However, the hollow fiber drain valve can be left mounted on the system. Equipment required UniFlux 10 system equipped with cassette holder Workflow 1. Dismount the Cassette holder 2. Change position of Magnetic Flow Sensor and Pressure gauge 3. Mounting of piping and drip tray 4. Mounting and installation of Filter Drain valve 5. Mount hollow fiber 6. Define new settings in UNICORN 7. Test the installation WARNING! Ensure that the main power supply and compressed air supply are switched off before starting the installation. WARNING! The existing piping, tubing and filter cassette may contain hazardous solutions under pressure - please follow necessary precautions and use protective gear, such as protective glasses, and gloves resistant to chemicals used. WARNING! Dropping of any loosened parts during the hollow fiber conversion kit installation may cause personal injury. CAUTION! Dropping of any loosened parts during the hollow fiber conversion kit installation may cause instrument damage. Support clams To facilitate the identification of different support clams used during conversion of UniFlux 10 from cassette to hollow fiber, pictures and references of support clams are listed in the Table below. Support clam picture Support clam reference (in this instruction / product number) SC1 / 03-0055-75 Comments This support clam is mounted when using UniFlux 10 with a cassette. It should be dismounted and not used when using hollow fiber. SC2 / 03-0058-40 SC3 / 03-0105-22 SC4 / 03-0058-37 SC5 / 28-4070-81 2 Instruction 28-9052-35 AA
1: Dismount the Cassette holder WARNING! The existing piping and filter cassette may contain hazardous solutions under pressure - please follow necessary precautions and use protective gear. Note: It is recommended to clean the system before starting installing the hollow fiber, for example by flushing the system with a with a non-hazardous solution. 1. Remove the drip tray (A). 3. Disconnect piping for Retentate (C), Permeate (D) and Inlet (E) and remove the cassette holder (F). WARNING! Dropping of any loosened parts during the hollow fiber conversion kit installation may cause personal injury. CAUTION! Dropping of any loosened parts during the hollow fiber conversion kit installation may cause instrument damage. C D E A F 2. Unscrew the 4 bolts (B) on the lower side of the Cassette holder. 2: Change position of Magnetic Flow Sensor and Pressure gauge 1. Disconnect piping at position (G). 2. Disconnect the support clam (SC1) from UniFlux 10 and piping. 3: Mounting of piping and drip tray 1. Place drip tray (DT), which is included in the hollow fiber conversion kit, as indicated. Note that it should be placed below the position of the hollow fiber, see Section 5. 2. Fasten support clams (SC2 and SC3) to indicated positions to the frame of UniFlux 10. SC2 DT G SC1 SC3 3. Remove pipe part (H) and support clam (SC1). H and SC1 are not used when the system is converted for hollow fiber. 4. Unfasten the Magnetic Flow Sensor (I) at position (J), turn it 180, and fasten it. SC1 3. Connect Magnetic Flow Sensor (I) at position (G), see step 1 in Section 2. 4. Fasten support clams (SC2 and SC3) to the piping. SC2 and SC3 should already be mounted to the frame of UniFlux 10 according to step 2, this Section. Adjust the support clams (SC2 and SC3) to fit the piping. Note: The arrow on the Magnetic Flow Sensor MUST be in the flow direction, i.e. point towards the hollow fiber. 4: Mounting and installation of Filter Drain valve 1. Mount the Filter Drain valve (K) with the Position Indicator (L) with support clam (SC4 ). L 5: Mount hollow fiber Note: There are two different sizes of hollow fiber for UniFlux 10. Follow instructions for either hollow fiber Cartridge size 5 (Section 5A) or size 6 (Section 5B). 5A: Mount hollow fiber Cartridge size 5 1. Connect the hollow fiber cartridge to the inlet (O) with a TC-clam. 2. Fix hollow Fibre with a support clam (SC5). K SC4 SC5 SC4 K O 2. Connect the cable from the Filter Drain Valve at position (M). The position is marked XV 064 valve. 3. Connect the tubing from the Filter Drain Valve at position (N). The position is marked XV 064 valve. 3. Connect drain flexible tube (P) 450 mm. P 4. Connect Permeate (Q) 550 mm and Retentate (R) 500 mm flexible tubes. M N R Q Instruction 28-9052-35 AA 5
5B: Mount hollow fiber Cartridge size 6 1. Connect the hollow fiber cartridge to the inlet (O) with a TC-clam, as described for step 1, hollow fiber Cartridge size 5 in section 5A. 2. Fix hollow Fibre with a support clam (SC5). 6: Define hollow fiber settings in UNICORN SC5 Fig. 1. UniFlux 10 flow scheme in UNICORN before installation of hollow fiber Cartridge. 3. Connect drain flexible tube (P) 450 mm. 1. Start UNICORN and open the UNICORN Manager window. 2. Select Administration:System Setup P 4. Connect Permeate (Q) 550 mm and Retentate (R) 500 mm flexible tubes. R 3. In the System Setup window, select desired system (System 1 in example) and click Edit Q 6 Instruction 28-9052-35 AA
4. In the Edit System window, click Component 7: Test the installation 1. Perform a functionality test of the Filter Drain valve using UNICORN. Open valves are indicated with green and closed valves are indicated with black. 2. Perform a leakage test under pressure (up to maximum pressure allowed for the hollow fiber used). Check all piping and connections for leakage. WARNING! Use a non-hazardous solution when performing the functionality test to avoid potential leakage of hazardous solutions. 5. In the Component window, check hollow fiber box and click OK. 6. In the Edit System window, click OK 7. In the System Setup window, click Close The hollow fiber is now added to the UNICORN software. To be able to control the hollow fiber from UNICORN strategies must include hollow fiber equipment. Fig. 2. UniFlux 10 flow scheme in UNICORN after installation of hollow fiber cartridge.
