Thermal Industries, Inc. The story of an industry pioneer. Thermal Industries invented and manufactured America s first vinyl replacement window and we ve spent over 50 years perfecting it! 2 With over 50 years experience in the vinyl window industry, Thermal Industries has developed an extensive line of high quality, energy-efficient windows that have helped millions of homeowners to live more comfortably. As one of the pioneers in the design and manufacture of insulating replacement windows and doors, Thermal Industries has taken this knowledge and expertise a step further to develop new and innovative products, many of which are industry firsts. It all began in the early 1960 s, when Thermal Industries introduced America to the first custom-vinyl replacement window, as recognized by the AAMA Vinyl Material Council. These industry firsts continued into the 1970 s with Thermal Industries' development of the first custom bay, bow, casement and v-bow windows. In the mid-1990 s, Thermal Industries incorporated their custom vinyl windows and patio doors into a 3-inch insulated wall system to create the DreamspacE Patio Enclosure System. Also in the mid-90s, Thermal took a giant step into the outdoor products market with the innovative vinyl Dream Deck, Rail and Dock Systems, introducing homeowners to the world of Barefoot Friendly TM and maintenance-free vinyl deck and rail surfaces. Thermal Industries entered the new millennium with the creation of the ASPECT (Advanced Structural Performance Engineering Technology) family of double hung window products, creating a system that exceeds NFRC and AAMA standards. Most recently, Thermal Industries launched the manufacture of SafeHarbor Vinyl Impact Windows and Patio Doors which are engineered to protect your home against dangerous weather, including hurricane-force winds. Today, Thermal Industries is a part of the Atrium Family of Brands. Together, these companies make Atrium one of the largest manufacturers of windows and patio doors in North America. Thermal Industries is a participant in the National Fenestration Rating Council s Certification Program, a uniform national rating system for energy performance of fenestration products. All Thermal Industries Window and Patio Door products are tested, certified and labeled to NFRC standards. www.nfrc.org Thermal Industries is proud to be an ENERGY STAR Partner. high-perfor mance glass systems Save money, save energy, save the environment. That s green living. Windows provide many great benefits, but did you know they can also account for up to 30% of the annual energy consumed in a home? Glass makes up almost 80% of a window and dictates how that window will perform. So, it s important to choose the right glass package when replacing windows in your home. Thermal Industries offers you the option of five insulating glass upgrades, as shown on the far right. Each grade provides you with different levels of energy savings on your utility bills, plus enhanced ultraviolet protection and improved interior comfort. Your authorized dealer can help you choose a glass package that s right for your climate. Components and Technology...LoE 2 Glass Our LoE 2 (low-emissivity) glass boasts up to eight layers of microscopic coatings that act like a filter: In summer, the LoE 2 glass allows ample visible light to pass through while blocking infrared solar energy, keeping your rooms cooler. In winter, the glass helps to keep rooms warmer by reflecting heat back into the home while letting warm, solar rays enter. The results are simple... lower energy costs! Plus, LoE 2 glass blocks damaging UV rays, helping to reduce fading of the carpet and furnishings in your home. LoE 2 Glass at Work: Warm-Edge Spacer Systems & Insulating Gases Our warm-edge, insulating glass sealant systems flex with the glass in hot or cold temperatures to help prevent seal failure. These insulating spacer systems keep the edges of the glass warmer, dramatically reducing condensation while keeping warm air in and cold air out. Optional insulating gases, such as Argon or Krypton, can be added to the air spaces in our glass units. Both gases are denser than air and prevent the formation of convection currents, reducing heat transfer between the inside and outside of your home. This improves your home s comfort while lowering your heating and cooling bills. Dual Glaze Dual Glaze Triple Glaze Triple Glaze Glass System Descriptions Super Peak Performance TM 1 1. energy star qualified windows E NERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. What does this program consider as an ENERGY STAR Qualified Window or Door? Every ENERGY STAR qualified window is independently certified by the National Fenestration Rating Council, or NFRC, to perform at levels that meet or exceed strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Dept. of Energy. Just like the EPA sticker on a new car gives you a car s fuel economy, or miles per gallon, Sample NFRC Sticker the NFRC label will help you measure and compare the energy performance of different window brands. ENERGY STAR requirements for windows and doors vary by climate zone. For instance, a window that is energy efficient in Miami, FL Terms and Definitions: Visible Transmittance (VT) measures the might not be the best amount of light the window lets through. The choice in Anchorage, higher the VT, the more light you see. Condensation Resistance measures how well Alaska. the window resists water build-up. The higher What criteria does the ENERGY STAR Program use for Window and Door Performance? The first energy performance rating is the U-Factor. UFactor measures heat transfer through a window and tells you how well the window insulates. The lower the U-factor, the better the window insulates. During winter months, the lower a windows overall U-factor, the less heat you will lose through that window, and the less energy you will use to heat your home. The second performance rating is the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient. This measures how much solar heat is admitted into your home through the window, and tells you how well the window blocks heat caused by sunlight. The lower the SHGC, the better the window is at blocking heat. During summer months, a lower SHGC means less solar radiation is admitted through your windows, keeping your home cooler, and saving you money on running your air conditioner. Our ENERGY STAR Qualified Products Thermal Industries is proud to manufacture vinyl replacement windows and patio doors with the ENERGY STAR label. We offer our customers a variety of high-performance, insulating glass systems that help qualify our window and patio door products for the ENERGY STAR label. Ask your sales representative for more information....compare your choices the condensation resistance factor, the less build-up the window allows. Values above assume standard placement of LoE2. 11
