Certificate of Insurance The following insurance covers are exclusive to The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, Brunei ( HSBC ) Visa Gold Card, HSBC MasterCard Gold, HSBC Advance Visa Platinum Card, HSBC Visa Platinum Card and HSBC Premier MasterCard Cardmembers ( Insured Person ). You are entitled to it automatically and without charge. Make sure you take advantage of this free service simply by charging your travel tickets, purchases and incurred expenses to your HSBC Visa Gold Card, HSBC MasterCard Gold, HSBC Advance Visa Platinum Card, HSBC Visa Platinum Card or HSBC Premier MasterCard. IMPORTANT NOTICE This Certificate is issued for the Cardmember s information only and is not a contract of insurance. It is subject to the Terms and Conditions of the respective Master Policy, a copy of which is available for sight on reasonable request at HSBC Brunei. Any endorsements or amendments to the insurance cover as agreed between the Insurer and HSBC shall be binding without prior notice to the Insured Person. IN THE EVENT OF A CLAIM Written notice of a claim must be given to Tokio Marine Insurance Singapore Ltd. within thirty (30) days upon the occurrence of an event which may give rise to a loss or as soon as is reasonably possible, with information sufficient to identify the Insured Person. All notice of claim will be directed to Tokio Marine Insurance Singapore Ltd. for investigation and handling. All information, evidence, proof, certificates, reports and any other documents required by the Insurer shall be furnished at the expense of the claimant and shall be in such form and of such nature as the Insurer may prescribe. Claimants are advised to observe the Terms and Conditions of the respective policies in order not to prejudice their claims. PAYMENT OF CLAIM Payment of any claim will be made by the Insurer only after adequate proof of loss to substantiate the claim has been received and when the amount of benefit has been ascertained and agreed. Any payment for accidental loss of life shall be paid to the estate of the Insured Person. All other losses shall be paid to the Insured Person. Payment shall be made in Brunei currency. CARD PURCHASES INSURANCE 1. INSURING TERMS This insurance will indemnify HSBC Visa Gold Card, HSBC MasterCard Gold, HSBC Advance Visa Platinum Card, HSBC Visa Platinum Card or HSBC Premier MasterCard Cardmembers for the accidental loss of or damage to any movable physical property other than consumables, motor vehicles, property for the purpose of business or commercial use, money, livestock or pets ( the Property Insured ) provided that: (a) such loss or damage occurs while in transit to the usual place of residence, and happening within fifteen (15) days from the date of purchase if the Property Insured is purchased in Brunei or within thirty (30) days if purchased overseas, whichever is the earlier. the purchase must be fully charged to the valid HSBC Visa Gold Card, HSBC MasterCard Gold, HSBC Advance Visa Platinum Card, HSBC Visa Platinum Card or HSBC Premier MasterCard issued by HSBC (Brunei). If only a proportion of the purchase price is charged to the card account, the insurer shall not be liable in pay more than the corresponding proportionate amount of the loss or damage. The insurer has the option to indemnify by way of payment in cash, repair, reinstatement or replacement. The maximum liability of the insurer is up to BND20,000 for any one article, pair or set with maximum of BND25,000 for any one occurrence, for purchases made under HSBC Visa Gold Card, HSBC Gold MasterCard, HSBC Advance Visa Platinum Card, HSBC Visa Platinum Card or HSBC Premier MasterCard. 2. EXCLUSIONS The insurance does not cover loss or damage (a) as a result of delay, seizure, confiscation, destruction, requisition, retention or detention by customs or any government or public authority or officials; (c) in relation to mechanical, electrical or electronic breakdown, failure or derangement; of wear and tear, actions of insect, vermin, fungus or rust; 1 of 5
(d) (e) (f) (g) (h) (i) (j) (k) (l) (m) (n) (o) (p) (q) due to atmospheric or weather conditions (including fading by light) or any other gradually operating cause; which include scratching, denting, chaffing, loss or diminution in value; resultant of pressure waves caused by aircraft or aerial device traveling at sonic or supersonic speed; incurred or to be incurred for maintaining, cleaning, restoring, dyeing or repairing of the Merchandise; for faults that were already part of the Merchandise at the time of its purchase; resulting from an illegal act of the Insured Person or any person living in the Insured Person s household; that cannot be reasonably explained; including theft or malicious damage unless it is reported within twenty-four (24) hours of the discovery of the loss or damage; as a consequence of the Insured Person or any person living in the Insured Person s household not taking reasonable care of the Merchandise; as a consequence of the Insured Person or any person living in the Insured Person s household physically abusing the Merchandise; to Merchandise being left unattended in a vehicle, unless it has been hidden from view in the boot and the vehicle is properly secured against theft; incurred during or due to war, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities or warlike operations (whether war is declared or undeclared), civil war, rebellion, insurrection or military or usurped power, terrorism howsoever arising or any act thereof; resultant from radiation and radioactive contamination, or any related event; due to any act of nuclear, chemical or biological terrorism; or In addition, this Certificate does not pay for the first BND50.00 for each and every loss or losses arising from the same occurrence. 3. TERMINATION OF INSURANCE The insurance shall terminate on the date on which the Cardmember dies, or ceases to be a Cardmember. 4. CONDITIONS (a) For loss of or damage to any article forming part of a pair or set, the insurer is not liable to pay more than the value of any particular part(s) which may be lost or damaged without reference to any special value which article(s) may have part of such pair or set; nor is the insurer liable for more than a proportionate part of the value on the pair or set. The Cardmember shall take all reasonable precautions to safeguard the property. 5. CLAIMS In the event of a claim, the Insured Person must: (1) complete the claim form issued by Tokio Marine Insurance Singapore Ltd. as soon as reasonably practicable and providing any other information and/or documents or help which may assist to support the Insured Person s claim. (2) written notice of claim must be submitted no later than thirty (30) days from the date of the event indicating the date of the incident, the cause of the loss or damage, details of the loss or damage and invoices and/or receipt supporting the value of the Merchandise and the bank statements showing the charges made to the HSBC Card on the Merchandise. (3) If claim is related to loss or damage in transit involving a carrier, tour operator, the loss or damaged must be reported to the carrier or tour operator and obtained a written report. Any loss or damage due to the theft or caused by malicious person must be reported to the police within twenty-four (24) hours and a written police report obtained. TRAVEL PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE 1. INSURING TERMS This insurance covers HSBC Visa Gold Card, HSBC MasterCard Gold, HSBC Advance Visa Platinum Card, HSBC Visa Platinum or HSBC Premier MasterCard Cardmembers, the spouse and the dependent children under twenty-five (25) years of age ( Insured Person ) for loss resulting in any of the following events:- 2 of 5
(a) while riding as a passenger in or boarding or alighting from or being struck by any air, land or water conveyance licensed for hired transportation; provided the fare has been fully charged to the card account with HSBC. while riding as a passenger in a conveyance licensed for hired transportation, but only [1] when going directly to an airport for the purpose of boarding an aircraft on which the Insured Person is covered, or [2] when leaving an airport after alighting from such aircraft. 2. BENEFITS The following benefits are payable when loss results within one hundred and eighty (180) days after the date of accident: Loss Benefit Percentage Death 100% Permanent Total Disability 100% Loss of two (2) limbs 100% Loss of sight in both eyes 100% Loss of one (1) limb and loss of sight in one (1) eye 100% Loss of one (1) limb 50% Loss of sight in one (1) eye 50% Loss of a thumb and index finger of the same hand 25% If more than one loss results from one accident, only the amount set opposite one loss (the greater) will be paid. In no event shall duplicate or multiple cards increase the amount of benefit in excess of the above sum for any one loss sustained by any one Insured Person as a result of any one accident. Loss means complete severance through or above the wrist or ankle joint or, irrecoverable loss of entire sight. 3. MAXIMUM INDEMNITY The maximum indemnity for all losses to any one Insured Person is BND300,000 for HSBC Visa Gold Card, HSBC MasterCard Gold, HSBC Advance Visa Platinum Card and BND500,000 for HSBC Visa Platinum Card or HSBC Premier MasterCard. 4. EXPOSURE AND DISAPPEARANCE When, by reason of covered accident, an Insured Person is unavoidably exposed to the elements and as a result of such exposure suffers a loss as described, such loss shall be covered under this insurance. If the body of the Insured Person has not been found within one (1) year of the disappearance, sinking or wrecking of the public conveyance in which the Insured Person was riding at the time of the accident, it will be presumed that the Insured Person suffered loss of life as insured at the time of such disappearance, sinking or wrecking. If at any time after payment has been made for such claim the Insured Person is found to be living, full refund shall be made by the Insured Person to the insurer. 5. EXCLUSIONS This insurance does not cover any loss caused by or resulting from: (a) suicide or self-destruction, while sane or insane; war (declared or undeclared) and any kindred risks or terrorism; (c) illegal acts of an Insured Person or an Insured Person s designated beneficiary, executor(s) or administrator(s) or legal heir(s) or personal legal representative(s). 6. TERMINATION OF INSURANCE FOR THE INSURED PERSON Cover for each Insured Person shall terminate on the earliest of: anniversary date of this Certificate unless otherwise extended by the payment of the Contribution; the cancellation of the Certificate by Insured Person or Tokio Marine Insurance Singapore Ltd.; the death of the Insured Person; and where the maximum payment in respect of the Insured Person has been made under the Certificate. 7. BENEFICIARY Compensation for loss of life shall be paid to the beneficiary in accordance with the successive preference beneficiaries stated in the Master Policy. SCHEDULED FLIGHT EVENT INSURANCE 1. OPERATION OF INSURANCE COVERAGE The insurance coverage for the Insured Person shall operate only while the Insured Person is taking a trip on a scheduled flight as a fare-paying passenger and provided the entire airfare for such scheduled flight has been charged to the Cardmember s Card account in advance of the scheduled departure time. 3 of 5
2. DEFINITIONS (a) Insured person means a HSBC (Brunei) Cardmember or any one of the family members as defined herein. (c) (d) (e) (f) Cardmember means holder of HSBC Visa Gold Card, HSBC MasterCard Gold, HSBC Advance Visa Platinum Card, HSBC Visa Platinum Card or HSBC Premier MasterCard from HSBC (whether basic, corporate or supplementary) whose card is valid and is not cancelled at the time of a covered claim or loss. Family member shall mean the Cardmember s legally married spouse and legally dependent children under twenty-five (25) years of age who are residing in the same household and in the same country of residence as the Cardmember. Physician means a duly qualified registered medical practitioner who is lawfully entitled to practice medicine and surgery in the place where medical and surgical services are performed, other than the Insured Person s relative or the Insured Person himself. Country of residence means any country to which the Insured Person is usually assigned and/or is otherwise usually domiciled in for a continuous period of no less than thirty-one (31) days. Scheduled flight means a flight in an aircraft operated by an air carrier which holds a certificate, license or similar authorisation for scheduled air transportation for farepaying passengers issued by the relevant authorities in the country in which the aircraft is registered, and maintains and publishes schedules and tariffs for passenger service between named airports at regular and specific times. Departure times, transfer and destination points shall be established by reference to the Insured Person s travel ticket. (g) Public conveyance means any land or water conveyance which is duly licensed for the regular transportation of farepaying passengers and shall include scheduled flight but shall exclude any hired or rental car, or any conveyance operated for the purpose of amusement or entertainment. 3. COVERAGE The maximum amount of claims for the coverage as listed in this section is as indicated in Section 4 Limits of Indemnity. A. Trip Cancellation If the Insured Person s scheduled Trip is cancelled within thirty (30) days from the date of commencement of the Trip due to any of the following events before the scheduled date of departure, the Insurer will pay the fare of the Scheduled Flight and/or Deposit the Insured Person has actually fully paid with a HSBC Card. B. Flight Delay If the departure of the Carrier from a place of embarkation outside Brunei Darussalam and in which the Insured Person is booked to travel is delayed for at least eight (8) hours from the scheduled time of departure stated in the Insured Person s itinerary due to strike, industrial action, adverse weather conditions or mechanical breakdown of the Carrier, the Insurer will pay the Insured Person one hundred dollars (BND100) per Insured Person for each full eight (8) hours delay. C. Missed Flight Connection If due to delay of the Carrier in which the Insured Person is booked to travel to the overseas connecting point, the Insured Person fails to arrive at the overseas connecting point in time to board a connecting flight, the Insurer will pay the additional and necessary costs the Insured Person actually incurred before the next available connecting flight for: hotel accommodation; and/or meals or refreshments at the overseas connecting point. Payment under this Section is conditional upon the Insured Person: receiving a confirmed reservation on the connecting flight; allowing sufficient time for and doing everything possible to get to the overseas connecting point in time for the flight or check-in specified on the Insured Person s ticket or itinerary. D. Luggage Delay If the Insured Person s check-in luggage with the Carrier is not delivered to the Insured Person after six (6) hours, but before forty-eight (48) hours, of the Insured Person s arrival at the scheduled overseas destination, the Insurer will reimburse the Insured Person for reasonable expenses incurred at the scheduled overseas destination for replacement of essential items. However, the following will not be covered: purchases made within the first six (6) hours of the Insured Person s arrival at the scheduled; purchases made after the delivery of the Insured Person s luggage or after forty-eight (48) hours of the Insured Person s arrival at the scheduled overseas destination whichever is the earlier. 4 of 5
E. Loss of Luggage If the Insured Person s accompanied check-in luggage is not delivered within forty-eight (48) hours of the Insured Person s arrival at the scheduled overseas destination, the Insured Person s luggage is deemed permanently lost and the Insurer reimburse the Insured Person for reasonable expenses incurred at the scheduled overseas destination for the replacement of the essential items within the forty-eight (48) hour period of the Insured Person s arrival at that destination. F. Funeral Expenses or Repatriation of Mortal Remains If the Insured Person dies during the trip, the Insurer will pay for: the overseas funeral expenses or costs of cremation necessarily and reasonably incurred at the place of death; or the cost of returning the Insured Person s remains to Brunei Darussalam or the country of origin of the Insured Person. 4. INDEMNITY LIMITATION In no event shall duplicate or multiple cards increase the limits specified herein for expenses incurred by any one individual Insured Person as a result of any one occurrence covered by this insurance. In the event of a Cardmember being accompanied by one or more supplementary Cardmembers and/or family members under the same card account, cover for all incurred expenses charged to the card account as a result of any one occurrence shall be limited to the maximum amounts specified herein. 6. EXCLUSIONS This Certificate does not cover any loss or expenses directly or indirectly resulting from: (a) suicide or any attempt threat or deliberately inflicted by or on behalf of the Insured Person, regardless whether the Insured Person is sane, insane or under any mental distress; any criminal or illegal act committed by the Insured Person or their designated beneficiary, executor, administrator, legal heirs or personal legal representative; (c) the Insured Person s participation (including any act of provocation) in strike, riot, civil commotion, hijack, murder or assault; (d) detention or confiscation by Customs or other authorities; (e) war, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities or warlike operations (whether war be declared or undeclared), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection or military or usurped power, terrorism howsoever arising or any act thereof; 7. CLAIM PROCEDURES (a) Written notice must be given within thirty (30) days of the event giving rise to a claim or within fourteen (14) days after return to the country of residence, whichever is later. The following must be furnished in the event of a claim: [1] copies of record charge forms verifying that the scheduled flight tickets and/or incurred expenses were charged to the Cardmember s Card account; [2] the property irregularity report obtained from the airline in respect of delay or lost luggage; [3] full details of the scheduled flight such as flight numbers, departure airport, destination, scheduled time and the like; [4] full details of the delay or loss incurred; [5] full details of itemized expenses incurred for burial or cremation or transport of mortal remains.
