1 COMPLIMENTARY TRAVEL INSURANCE FOR DBS TREASURES BLACK ELITE AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD & DBS WORLD BUSINESS CREDIT CARD CARDHOLDERS PRODUCT SUMMARY When you charge your travel fares to your DBS Treasures Black Elite American Express Card or DBS World Business Credit Card, you will automatically enjoy complimentary cover under this travel insurance program arranged by DBS. This insurance is provided subject to the terms conditions and exceptions of the Master Policy PCA ( Policy ) issued by MSIG Insurance (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. ( MSIG ) to DBS Bank Ltd ( DBS ). All endorsements, changes and amendments to the Policy as agreed between MSIG and DBS shall be binding without prior notice on the Insured Person. DEFINITIONS Accident means an event occurring during the Journey which happens suddenly, solely and directly caused by violent and external means and gives rise to a result which the Insured Person did not intend or anticipate. Adult means a person age 18 years and above at the commencement of any Journey. Cardholder means an individual who had been issued with a DBS Card by DBS. Common Carrier means any land, water or air conveyance operating as a form of public transport under a licence for the regular and scheduled transportation of fare-paying passengers which any member of the public can join at a recognised stop and pay a fare (excluding chartered transport and/or taxi services). DBS Card means a DBS Treasures Black Elite American Express Card or a DBS World Business Credit Card. Dependent Child means the biological or legally adopted, unemployed and unmarried child between 6 months and 18 years of age (or up to 23 years old if studying full time in a recognised institution of higher learning) at the commencement of any Journey. Family means the DBS Card Cardholder, his/her legal spouse and all their Dependent Child(ren). Injury means bodily injury suffered anywhere in the world caused solely by Accident and not by sickness, disease or gradual physical or mental wear and tear. Insured means DBS Bank Ltd. Insured Person means any DBS Card Cardholder, his/her legal spouse or any of their Dependent Child(ren). Journey means the entire return trip not exceeding 90 consecutive days from the time during the Period of Insurance that the Insured Person leaves his/her home or workplace in Singapore for a direct journey to the airport, seaport or any exit point in Singapore for the sole purpose of commencing a trip abroad to three (3) hours after the Insured Person arrives back in Singapore or returns directly to his/her home or workplace in Singapore, whichever is sooner. Period of Insurance means the period of insurance specified in the Schedule. Physician means a properly qualified medical practitioner licensed by the competent Medical Authorities of the country in which treatment is provided to practice Western medicine and surgery, and who in rendering such treatment is practicing within the scope of his or her licensing and training. We / Us / Our / the Company means MSIG Insurance (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. THE BENEFITS Subject to the terms, conditions and exclusions of the Policy, the Company will pay the benefits as described below in respect of a Journey, provided that: 1. the Insured Person (being the DBS Card Cardholder, his/her legal spouse or any of their Dependent Children) is travelling out of and return to Singapore in a Common Carrier and the travel fare for the Insured Person s travel in that Common Carrier has been wholly charged to the DBS Card Cardholder s one valid DBS Card (Note: Where the fare on the Common Carrier concerned is incorporated as part of the total cost of a package tour, this requirement is deemed to be satisfied if the total cost of that package tour was charged to that one valid DBS Card); 2. Dependent Child (if any) under the age of 18 years is accompanied by the DBS Card Cardholder and/or his/her legal spouse; and 3. the Policy is still in force at the time the Insured Person commences the Journey. 1
2 SECTION 1 PERSONAL ACCIDENT COVER 1.1 While in a Common Carrier The Company will pay Compensation for death or Permanent Loss or disablement (the Results) based on the scale as described in the Schedule of Benefit if an Insured Person suffers Injury while travelling solely as a fare-paying passenger in a Common Carrier during the Journey which within 365 days of its happening is the sole cause of the death or such Permanent Loss or disablement as certified by a Physician. Limit of amount payable in respect of Section 1.1 Each Adult Insured Person up to 70 years old at the commencement of the Journey Each Adult Insured Person above 70 years old at the commencement of the Journey Each Dependent Child Insured Person In the aggregate for each insured Family Sum Insured (up to) S$1,000,000 S$50,000 S$250,000 S$1,000,000 Compensation will not be payable for Section 1.1 where compensation for Section 1.2 is payable in the circumstances. 1.2 While elsewhere during the Journey The Company will pay Compensation for death or Permanent Loss or disablement (the Results) based on the scale as described in the Schedule of Benefit if an Insured Person suffers Injury during the Journey anywhere in the world (except when it is covered by Section 1.1) which within 365 days of its happening is the sole cause of the death or such Permanent Loss or disablement as certified by a Physician. Limit of amount payable in respect of Section 1.2 Each Adult Insured Person up to 70 years old at the commencement of the Journey Each Adult Insured Person above 70 years old at the commencement of the Journey Each Dependent Child Insured Person In the aggregate for each insured Family Sum Insured (up to) S$50,000 S$25,000 S$50,000 S$1,000,000 Compensation will not be payable for Section 1.2 where compensation for Section 1.1 is payable in the circumstances. SCHEDULE OF BENEFIT Applicable to Section 1.1 and Section 1.2 RESULTS COMPENSATION (Percentage of Sum Insured) A. Death 100% B. Permanent Loss or disablement as specified below: 1) Total and Permanent disablement from engaging in or attending to employment or occupations of any and every kind 100% 2) Total paralysis or being Permanently bedridden 100% 3) Loss of a. one or two limbs 100% b. one or both hands 100% c. arm above the elbow 100% d. arm at or below the elbow 100% e. leg above the knee 100% f. leg at or below the knee 100% 4) Loss of all sight in one or both eyes 100% 5) Loss of a. hearing in both ears 75% b. hearing in one ear 15% c. Speech 50% 6) Loss of a. sight in one eye except perception of light 50% b. lens of one eye 50% 7) Loss of a. four fingers and thumb of one hand 50% b. four fingers of one hand 40% 2
3 SCHEDULE OF BENEFIT Applicable to Section 1.1 and Section 1.2 RESULTS COMPENSATION (Percentage of Sum Insured) c. Thumb - both phalanges 25% - one phalanx 10% d. index fingers - three phalanges 15% - two phalanges 8% - one phalanx 4% e. middle finger - three phalanges 10% - two phalanges 4% - one phalanx 2% f. ring finger - three phalanges 8% - two phalanges 4% - one phalanx 2% g. little finger - three phalanges 7% - two phalanges 3% - one phalanx 2% h. Metacarpals - first or second 3% - third, forth or fifth 2% i. Toes - all of one foot 17% - great, both phalanges 5% - great, one phalanx 2% - other than great, if more than one toe lost, each 3% For the purpose of Section 1.1 & Section 1.2: Permanent means lasting 365 days from the date of the Injury and at the expiry of that period being beyond hope of improvement. Loss means Permanent, physical severance or total and irrecoverable loss of use. COMPENSATION LIMITS IN RESPECT OF ANY ONE INSURED PERSON 1. Compensation will not be payable for: (a) any specific item of Result B where that item is also comprised in any other item of Result B for which a greater amount of Compensation is payable in the circumstances. (b) Result A in addition to any Result B if caused by the same Accident, except that if a payment has been made under any part of Result B and death occurs subsequently solely caused by and within 12 months of the Accident, then the Company will pay any difference if the Compensation payable for Result A is greater than that already paid for Result B. (c) more than 100% of the Sum Insured for Result A or Result B (whichever is the higher) in aggregate for any or all of the Results for any one Insured Person or insured Family as the case may be, regardless of the number of times the Policy is renewed. (d) Result B1 until 12 months after the happening of the Injury. 2. For any Permanent partial disablement not specified above other than loss of sense, taste or of smell, the Company will adopt a percentage of disablement which in the opinion of the Company s medical advisors is consistent with the provision of the above and without regard to the Insured Person s occupation. TERRORISM COVER EXTENSION Notwithstanding General Exception 10 of the Policy and subject to the Company s maximum limit of liability as set out above, this Section 1 is extended to cover the Insured Person for death or Permanent Loss or disablement if the Insured Person suffers an Injury sustained during the Journey through acts of terrorism provided that there is no liability when such acts of terrorism involve the use of biological agents, chemical agents or nuclear devices and which within 365 days of its happening is the sole cause of the death or such Permanent Loss or disablement. Where the Insured Person is insured under more than one Policy with the Company covering act of terrorism, the Company s maximum liability for any claims arising directly or indirectly from any act of terrorism will be limited to the Policy with the highest limit on act of terrorism. 3
4 SECTION 2 MEDICAL EXPENSES INCURRED OVERSEAS (Subject to the occurrence of an Accident) The Company will reimburse reasonable medical expenses necessarily incurred outside Singapore at the direction of a Physician as a result of Injury suffered by the Insured Person during the Journey. The maximum amount that We will pay in respect of any one claim arising from or attributable to the same Accident shall not exceed S$5,000 for any one Insured Person up to 70 years old S$2,500 for any one Insured Person above 70 years old Up to S$10,000 per insured Family SECTION 3 TRAVEL MISCONNECTION In the event the Insured Person misses his/her confirmed onward travel connection during the Journey while outside Singapore at the transfer airport due to the late arrival of the Insured Person s incoming, confirmed connecting scheduled Common Carrier and no alternative onward transportation is available to the Insured Person within four (4) consecutive hours on the Insured Person s arrival, the Company will reimburse the Insured Person the reasonable expenses incurred in respect of hotel accommodation, meals or refreshment up to the, if not provided or compensated by the carrier or any other third party. Up to S$400 per Insured Person Up to S$800 per insured Family Where a claim under Section 3 and Section 4 results from the same occurrence, the Company will only pay for the claim under either Section, but not both. SECTION 4 TRAVEL DELAY In the event of the departure of the Common Carrier in which the Insured Person is supposed to travel while outside Singapore is being delayed by four (4) hours or more from the time specified by the carrier due to strike or other industrial action, riot, civil commotion, adverse weather conditions or the mechanical breakdown or derangement of the Common Carrier, the Company will reimburse the reasonable expenses incurred in respect of hotel accommodation, meals or refreshments up to the, if not provided or compensated by the carrier or any other third party. To qualify for payment, the Insured Person must have checked-in in accordance with the original itinerary and obtain written confirmation from the Common Carrier, operator or their handling agents stating the reason and length of delay. Up to S$400 per Insured Person Up to S$800 per insured Family Where a claim under Section 3 and Section 4 results from the same occurrence, the Company will only pay for the claim under either Section, but not both. SECTION 5 DELAYED BAGGAGE In the event the Insured Person s checked-in baggage is temporarily lost in transit or misdirected by the carrier and not restored to the Insured Person within six (6) hours after his/her arrival at the baggage pick-up point of the scheduled destination outside Singapore, the Company will reimburse the Insured Person up to the for emergency purchase of essential clothing or toiletries the Insured Person necessarily and reasonably incurred within 48 hours after arrival at such scheduled destination. Any such payment under Section 5 will be deducted from the amount payable under Section 6 if the baggage later proves to be permanently lost. Up to S$400 per Insured Person Up to S$800 per insured Family SECTION 6 LOSS OF BAGGAGE If the Insured Person s checked-in baggage is permanently lost in transit by the carrier or not restored to the Insured Person within 48 hours after his/her arrival at the baggage pick-up point of the scheduled destination outside Singapore, the Company will reimburse the Insured Person up to the Limit of Amount Payable for purchase of essential clothing or toiletries by the Insured Person necessarily and reasonably incurred within 96 hours after arrival at such scheduled destination. Up to S$1,000 per Insured Person Up to S$2,000 per insured Family 4
5 OVERALL COMPENSATION LIMIT The maximum aggregate liability of the Company in respect of all Insured Persons travelling in one conveyance shall not exceed the Conveyance Limit of S$10,000,000 or the aggregate of the amount of Compensation payable in respect of such Insured Persons, whichever is the lesser. If the aggregate amount of all claims for Insured Persons travelling in one conveyance exceeds the Conveyance Limit, the Company s liability in respect of each of such Insured Persons will be a rateable proportion of the benefits due in respect of that person. GENERAL EXCEPTIONS There are certain situations where no benefits will be payable. The following is a summary of the General Exceptions. Please refer to the Policy for full details of the General Exceptions. The Company will not pay any claims, losses or injury directly or indirectly caused by, or in connection with or arising from: 1. self injury, suicide or any attempted self injury or suicide while sane or insane or whilst the Insured Person is under the influence of intoxicating liquor, drug addiction or solvent abuse. 2. any pre-existing physical defect or infirmity, pregnancy, childbirth or miscarriage. 3. flying or other aerial activity other than as a fare paying passenger on a regular scheduled airline. 4. the Insured Person participating in any form of racing (other than on foot) and/or engaging in a sport in a professional capacity or where an Insured Person would or could earn income from engaging in such sport. 5. participation by the Insured Person in any kind of hazardous sports such as mountaineering or rock climbing necessitating the use of guides or ropes, underwater activities involving artificial breathing apparatus, bungee jumping or jet skiing. 6. the Insured Person engaging in or taking part in any military, naval, air force, civil defence or police services or operations; handling of explosives, ammunitions or firearms. 7. any wilful, malicious, criminal, or unlawful acts by the Insured Person 8. detention, seizure or confiscation by any Government or local authority. 9. any consequential loss not specified in the Policy. 10. a) war, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities or warlike operations (whether war is declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution insurrection, civil commotion assuming the proportions of or amounting to any uprising, military or usurped power; or b) any act of terrorism; or c) any action taken in controlling, preventing, suppressing or in any way relating to (a) or (b) above. 11. a) ionising radiations from or contamination by radioactivity from any nuclear fuel or from any nuclear waste or from the combustion of nuclear fuel b) the radioactive, toxic, explosive or other hazardous or contaminating properties of any nuclear installation, reactor or other nuclear assembly or nuclear components thereof c) any weapon or device employing atomic or nuclear fission and/or fusion or other like reaction or radioactive force or matter d) the radioactive, toxic, explosive or other hazardous or contaminating properties of any radioactive matter. The exclusion in this sub-clause does not extend to radioactive isotopes, other than nuclear fuel, when such isotopes are being prepared, carried, stored, or used for commercial, agricultural, medical, scientific or other similar peaceful purposes e) any chemical, biological, bio-chemical or electromagnetic weapon. CONDITIONS The following are some key conditions in the Policy. Please refer to the Policy for full details of the terms and conditions. CLAIMS PROCEDURE (a) Notice shall be given to the Company as soon as possible but in any case within thirty (30) days of the happening of any occurrence in respect of which a claim is to be made. (b) The Insured Person shall at his/her own expense furnish to the Company such certificates, receipts, information and evidence as the Company may reasonably require. (c) Any Insured Person shall as soon as possible after the happening of any Injury in respect of which a claim is to be made procure and follow medical advice from a Physician. (d) Any Insured Person as often as required shall submit to medical examination by a Physician appointed by the Company at the Company s expense. (e) The Company shall in the case of the death of any Insured Person be entitled to have a post mortem examination at its own expense. 5
6 WHO WE WILL PAY If a claim is admitted by Us under the Policy, We will pay to the Insured Person who is the DBS Card Cardholder (whose one valid DBS Card had been charged for the payment of the entire travel fare of the Journey covered under this Policy) unless he/she is deceased, We will then pay to his/her estate. CANCELLATION The Company may cancel this Policy by sixty (60) days' notice in writing to the Insured; the Policy may be cancelled at any time by the Insured by giving thirty (30) days' notice to the Company. DUE OBSERVANCE The due observance and fulfillment of the terms provisions and conditions of this Policy insofar as they relate to anything to be done or not to be done by the Insured, Insured Person or claimant and the truth of the statements and answers in the proposal shall be conditions precedent to any liability of the Company to make any payment under this Policy. GOVERNING LAW The Policy is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Republic of Singapore and is to be construed according to the laws of the Republic of Singapore. DATA PRIVACY NOTICE It is hereby declared that as a condition precedent to the liability of the Company, the Insured and all the Insured Persons have agreed that any personal information in relation to the Insured and/or all the Insured Persons provided by or on behalf of Insured and the Insured Persons to the Company may be held, used and disclosed to enable the Company to process and assess the Insured s application or any matter arising from this Policy and any other application for cover. PARTIES TO THE POLICY The Policy is an agreement between the Insured (DBS) and the Insurer (MSIG) only. A person who is not a party to this Policy shall have no right under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act to enforce any of its terms.
