I have participated in a National projects (ColaDI), working on the development of frameworks for multimedia indexing and retrieval, and their applications. My main research interests are in Music Visualization and Retrieval, Playlist Generation and Music Recommendation, and in Indexing Structures that combine multidimensional data and relational databases. Before starting my PhD I worked as a software developer at Safira Consultadoria Informática, participating in the development and maintenance of project management applications, customer relationship management solutions, and key performance indicators.

Course)
Date: September 2010 to February 2011 Description: During the laboratory classes I helped the students to apply the main concepts behind Human-Computer Interaction, in order to empower them to develop a final project, consisting in a User Interface for a specific domain, such as, Kiosks, Virtual Tour Assistants, etc. Laboratory Instructor Course: IT Project Management (MSc. Course) Date: September 2008 to February 2009 Description: I helped students to apply main Project Management concepts to develop a final project. This project consisted in creating a concise plan for a given set of specifications and constrains, regarding time, costs, organizations, risks, quality, etc. Research and Development Experience Writing Project Proposal Project: TIMBRE ( 130k) Date: May, 2012 Description: I wrote a project proposal to the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, whose main goal was to create a novel recommendation system that would combine information from users listening histories, from temporal and activity context, as well as from intrinsic information about songs to generate music playlists that model users profiles, and finally, develop a new visual representation that would allow users to understand the working flow of our recommendation algorithm, enhancing the different components that contributed to the generated playlists. Research Assistant Project: ColaDI, QREN Project Date: March, 2010 November, 2011
Description: Worked as a fellow Software Developer developing indexing structures, searching and retrieval algorithms, metadata extraction and integrating the several components developed into Nuxeo Content Management Platform. Software Developer Graphical User Interface Expert Project: GBTUL 2.0 Date: July, 2013 November, 2013 Description: Worked as a Graphical User Interface Expert developing the second version of GBTUL (acronym for GBT at the University of Lisbon ), a program that performs elastic buckling (bifurcation) and vibration analyses of prismatic thin-walled members. The project consisted in developing a GUI for handling GBT calculus and producing high-quality 2D and 3D outpus. Technical Skills I love to code and to learn new languages, especially for fast prototyping. I have experience in programing with Java, C/C++, C#.NET, PHP, Javascript, and HTML/CSS. I have also had some experience with MySQL, SQL Server, ActionScript, Groovy and Scala. I have experience with Microsoft Windows, Linux and Android operating system, although most of my development was done using Java, and therefore cross-platform, I usually work with Windows. Although most of my research has a great focus on interfaces and interactive visualizations for exploration, I have developed a lot of backend systems, which include the usage of ORM solutions, such as Hibernate or OpenJPA, multimedia indexing and retrieval frameworks, such as EnContRA or NBTree, and also web-frameworks, such as Play!. At the moment I am very interested in mobile computing and applications, specifically using the Android environment. I have finished a course in Coursera and have developed an innovative music player applying the concepts learned. The application is available at my web site. Other Skills I love to play guitar and learn new songs in my free time, as I used to play as amateur in a local traditional folkloric music group. At the moment I am interested in learning how to play the blues harmonica and mandolin. I also enjoy reading novels and romances, but I am particularly fond of criminal stories, such as, the Poirot series. Dancing is one my passions. I have started attending lessons almost a decade ago to learn different styles, such as, Salsa, Rumba, Foxtrot or more recently Kizomba and Funana. Due to this rising passion, I have become an assistant for 3 years. At the moment I practice Crossfit and Boxe, which have been useful not only to improve my physical condition, but also to learn some important skills, like for instance, team work and cooperation, as also managing stress levels.
