TSM for Windows Installation Instructions: Download the latest TSM Client Using the following link: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/storage/tivoli-storagemanagement/maintenance/client/v6r2/windows/x32/v623/ You will then see the following window: Click on the file 6.2.3.0-TIV-TSMBAC-WIN32.exe You will then get a pop up window: Click the Save File button.
Go to your Downloads folder and double-click on the file to launch the installer. You may get the following warning message: If see this message, just click Ok and then you will get a second warning message: Click run.
You will then be asked for the location to store the files: Accept the default location by clicking next.
You will then see a pop up window stating that the installer is reading the contents of the package:
Next, the installer will begin to extract the files: After the files have been extracted, you will be asked to select the language that you want as the default language: Select your preferred language and click ok
You will then get a pop up window informing you that the installer is preparing the installshield: Once the InstallShield is ready, click Next
You will then be asked to select the installation directory. In most cases, you will want to accept the default directory. One exception would be if you normally install your applications to another directory and/or drive. In that case you will want to navigate to the directory using the Change button. Once you have selected the directory, click next.
You will be informed that the installer is ready to begin. Click next. At this point the installation will start and you will see a status bar showing the progress:
The next phase will show that the program is copying new files to your hard drive: After the files have been copied, you will get a notification that the InstallShield wizard has completed:
At this point, you should see a message from windows telling you that a new program has been installed: Click on Start, Programs, Tivoli Storage Manager, Backup-Archive GUI :
You will see the startup window for Tivoli Storage Manager: At this point you will get an error message stating that an invalid id or password was submitted. Click OK. You will then be asked if you want to continue for purposes of local backupset restore. Click Yes.
When the TSM Client GUI loads, click Edit, Client Preferences : In the General Preferences tab, enter the node name supplied to you by the Storage and Backup Group. Make sure that the box Prune old entries is checked and set to prune entries older than 7 days:
Click on the Include-Exclude tab. There should be no entries. If you want to exclude files, enter the information here. (If you are not familiar with entering include-exclude information and want to exclude one or more files from your backups, contact the Storage and Backup Group for assistance) Click on the Scheduler tab. Make sure the Schedule Mode is set to Polling, the Maximum Command Retries is set to 4, Prune old entries is checked, and that Prune Entries Older Than is set to 10.
Click on the Communications tab. In the Server Address box,the Server Port box, and the Admin Port box, enter the information supplied to you by the Storage and Backup Group. Click the Authorization tab. Ensure that Password Generate and Prompt for Encryption Key Password are selected.
Click on the Web Client tab. Make sure that the Managed Services Options is set to Both. Then click OK. This will close the Preferences Editor. th
You will get a message at the bottom of the TSM Client GUI stating that your preferences have been saved. Click File, Exit Click on Start, All Programs, Tivoli Storage Manager to restart the TSM Client GUI.
The Tivoli Client Startup window will be displayed: You will then be asked to supply your password to connect to the server. Use the password given to you by the Storage and Backup group and click the Login button. (If you are asked to change your password after entering it, you will need to change it before you can continue)
You will be taken to the TSM Client Main Menu: Click on Utilities, Setup Wizard.
Check the box next to Help Me Configure the TSM Web Client, then click Next. The TSM Web Client Configuration Wizard will start. Click Next
You should see only the option to install a new web client agent. Click Next. Accept the default for the TSM Acceptor Name. Click Next.
Accept the default directory for the Option File Name unless you changed the installation directory. (If you changed the directory, you will need to set the Option File directory to the one you entered earlier). Click Next. Accept the default port number and click Next.
You will then be asked to authenticate by entering your TSM Password. Enter your password and click Next. At the Service Login Options window, make sure that The System Account is selected for the account and select Automatically When Windows Boots for when the service should start, then click Next.
Accept the default for the TSM Agent name and click next. Ensure that revoking the remote access privileges is set to No, then click Next.
Change the service start option to Yes, then click Next. On the confirmation screen, click Apply
You will receive a notification that the configuration is being completed: Once the completion screen appears, click the Finish button.
Click Utilities, Setup Wizard. This time select Help Me Configure the TSM Client Scheduler, then click Next.
At the TSM Scheduler Wizard Screen, click Next. You should see only the option to install a new or additional scheduler, click Next.
Accept the default name for the scheduler and check the box to use the Client Acceptor Daemon, then click Next. Accept the default name for the TSM Acceptor and click Next.
Accept the default log file locations and click Next. At the confirmation screen, click Apply to save the configuration.
The wizard will complete the configuration. Click the Finish button. At the main TSM menu click File, Exit. The installation is now complete.
