General Rules for Usage of NMEA logo 1. The NMEA logo is to be reproduced from approved artwork. To protect the integrity of the logo, no alterations shall be made to the artwork (including colors) or the relative proportions or the design elements of the trademarks without permission. 2. The NMEA President with the input of the Technology Committee Chair and ExCom members shall be responsible for all matters concerning the artwork used to reproduce its logo. 3. NMEA logo is not to be used by anyone outside NMEA or to imply an endorsement of the products or services of another person or organization without prior written consent of the NMEA President, President-elect or Pastpresident. 4. The NMEA logo may be associated with the trademarks and logos of outside persons or organizations in materials connected with joint projects or sponsorships in which NMEA is participating, so long as their use conforms to these guidelines. 5. NMEA prohibits the use of its logo in any form in connection with partisan political activity of any kind, including the endorsement, support or promotion of political candidates or legislative initiatives. 6. Requests from the general public and the media to use the NMEA logo are to be submitted to the President, who will grant permission in writing if he/she determines that the use will further the mission of NMEA. 7. NMEA members are asked to report any suspected improper usage of NMEA logo by outside persons or organizations to the President, Technology Committee Chair, Executive Committee members or NMEA Administrative Assistant. 8. Any member intending to use a new name, symbol, logo or slogan with an NMEA product or service shall review the proposed trademark with the President, who will consult with the Technology Committee Chair and Executive Committee members to ensure consistency with the policies of NMEA. 1
The NMEA Logo As the primary element in the NMEA brand, the NMEA logo must be used consistently throughout the organization s marketing and business materials. This helps the organization establish and strengthen its brand identity. The NMEA logo should be used on formal business documentation, such as contracts, invoices, and letterhead. The NMEA logo should be used for all marketing materials, such as brochures, direct mail, communications, advertisements, websites (including NMEA chapter websites), and the like. Always use the logo to identify documents and materials officially sponsored or cosponsored by NMEA or its chapters. Other organizations or individuals interested in using the logo need to obtain permission from NMEA. Minimum Space Requirements The minimum clear space surrounding the NMEA logo should be equal to the capital N as used in the acronym-only logo, as indicated to the right. 3
Minimum Reproduction Size The minimum reproduction size of the complete NMEA logo with tagline is 1.25 inches. The minimum reproduction size of the NMEA logo with acronym is 1 inch. Never reproduce the logo at smaller sizes. Whenever possible, reproduce the logo in PMS or black inks at small size. Things to Avoid Do not create a new logo that mimics the NMEA logo. Never try to mimic the logo in text using different fonts or treatments. Do not stretch or distort the logo or acronym. 4
Color Pallet Use PMS for commercially printed applications, CMYK for four-color process applications, and RGB or hexadecimal for online applications, such as web and PowerPoint. Files in.eps format yield the best quality and will be needed by printers and graphic professionals. Files in.tif format are useful for handouts and other desktop-produced informal applications. The NMEA tagline should be used on an as-needed basis for marketing purposes, such as brochures, direct mail, communications, advertisements, websites, and the like. General Placement Guidelines for the Tagline For the complete (non-acronym) logo, the tagline should be positioned below the logo, as shown at right.
