Counseling Program Survey 2013 1
Overview and Methodology The 2013 Counseling Program Survey was conducted during the fall 2013 academic term. The survey sought to understand program perspectives from the vantage point of current students, recent graduates as well as supervisors and employers who have recently supervised a Drake Counseling Student near the end of the program or hired a recent graduate. A brief set of questions was developed using a combination published of survey items from CACREP counseling programs and the program objectives of the program at Drake University. An online survey was developed and distributed to prospective respondents. All current students were invited to complete the survey. The survey was distributed through the Counseling Program listserv and students were encouraged to complete the survey by their course instructors. No personally identifiable information was collected in the survey. A total of 50 responses were received, resulting in a 46% response rate. Supervisors and employers who had either had an intern or hired a student from the spring of 2012 through the summer of 2013 were invited by email to complete the survey. A total of 47 employers and supervisors were invited to complete the survey. Twenty-seven individuals responded resulting in a 57% response rate. The survey also sought to capture feedback from graduates. The University does not have an effective method to capture student contact information making this aspect of the survey more challenging. Many graduates remain connected through the program listserv and thus were invited to complete the survey through this broad invitation. Program faculty also individually invited graduates with whom they maintain contact. A total of 26 graduates completed the survey. Given the invitation strategy it is not possible to calculate a response rate for this group. Survey items and responses are presented in the remainder of this report. 2
