Master degree internship Main characteristics and process Internship offer Fulltime internship with a minimum length of 20 weeks/ 560 hours, from September to February Goal: intern should analyse and respond to a problem or a concrete situation proposed by the organization Process Present the internship plan (Organization) Pre-selection of candidates (School) Candidates selection (Organization) Internship period (monitoring both by Organization and School) Evaluation written report and oral presentation (School) performance evaluation (Organization) 4
Master degree internship Organization s responsabilities Role of the hosting organization Prepares an internship plan* according to a form provided by the School Identifies a problem or a concrete situation to be analysed by the intern Establishes the functioning conditions of the internship (location, working time, eventual benefits, ) Defines the required profile (technical and technological knowledge, foreign languages, and others) Selects student(s) from a pre-selected group that the School provides Identifies an internal supervisor responsible for: Intern s welcoming and integration Internship monitoring (in collaboration with an academic supervisor) Informing the School whenever a problem arises Evaluating the intern through a qualitative scale of soft kills (form provided by the School) * The hosting organization can provide this information through filling the school s form until 8 th April, addressed to alferreira@porto.ucp.pt 5
Master degree internship Students and School s responsabilities Role of the student Abides to the rules set by and within the hosting organization (working time, confidentiality, ) Abides to the internship plan Participates in meetings with the academic supervisor (via skype) Presents the master degree final report on schedule Role of the School of Economics and Management Identifies internal expertise to supervise the internship (according to the defined area/problem) Approves the internship plan proposed by the organization Pre-selects the interns, given the preferences indicated by the hosting organization Formalizes an internship agreement Provides academic support regarding students final report Establishes regular contacts with the supervisor at the hosting organization Evaluates the Master degree final report 6
Master degree internship Written report Written document that corresponds to the critical analysis of the subject, problem or concrete situation in the internship context Includes: Theme or subject Theoretical background Method Discussion Conclusions, proposals or recommendations The Master degree internship report should be presented through: Original and specifically written report Oral presentation & discussion Note: The Master degree final report may be kept out of circulation upon formal request 7
