First commercial product launch in 2002 with several hospital installations around the world Ekahau has 10 patents on its core technology in Europe, Asia and the U.S. Ekahau is privately owned and Venture Capital funded ($25M) Ekahau Worldwide March 2007 Saratoga, CA - Sales, US West - Engineering Reston, VA - AMERICAS Sales & Marketing - Engineering Helsinki, Finland - EMEA/APAC Sales & Marketing - R&D, Product Management, Engineering Ekahau Employees: 56 Ekahau certified VARs: 100+ Vancouver Canada London, UK UK Chicago Mid-West Atlanta Healthcare Paris, France Europe South Stuttgart, Germany Europe Middle Hong Kong Asia Tokyo Japan Ekahau Office Ekahau Regional Staff 2

Missing Piece DATA VOICE Any Standard WLAN Network 1. Ekahau enables location tracking over any standard Wi-Fi network 2. Any brand of Wi-Fi access points can be used 3. Track PDAs, laptops, VOIP phones, Wi-Fi tags... Wi-Fi - Standard Infrastructure for the Enterprise RTLS! Source: Radicati Group Yankee Group: 80% of enterprises have adopted Wi-Fi by 2008 3

ID/Tracking Technologies RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Passive = Barcode on steroids More data, easily readable, inexpensive Standardized Active = Longer reader range using portals/scanners Primarily for identification No standards RTLS (Real Time Location System) Location Tracking ubiquitous Various methods/technologies; IR, RF, TDOA, etc. Proprietary based Ekahau = standards-based RTLS for WLAN No need for additional readers antennas Works with any Standard wlan network RFID vs Ekahau Example Site Layout 52 rooms 3 m avg accuracy required Approximately 12 000ft 2 / 1 200 m 2 4

WiFi Network Coverage 100% floor coverage with 8 Wi-Fi Access points (standard 802.11b) RFID Reader Placement 74 readers covering doorways only 5

EPE Overview How We Work RSSI Method Ekahau Real Time Location Solution (RTLS) leverages RSSI Data from the customers wireless network to generate location estimates. This information is recorded during a Site Survey Tags scan the network and send the data back to the Engine which gives location. EPE Overview How We Work EPE Server 1. Tags send out probe requests to all audible APs on their SSID 2. APs respond to tags 3. Tags measure RSSI of AP response, encapsulate the data and send it to EPE via network. 4. EPE receives RSSI data and checks the location file (ELS file). 5. EPE sends location estimate to Application Layer. 6

RTLS Adoption Source: Bearing Point 2005 RFID in Healthcare Survey Multifunctional WiFi in hospital Alerting and communication Mobile x-ray VoIP Server IP Network (Subnet 2) Wireless Access Points IP Network Mobile Data Access Wireless Controller (Subnet 1) Radius Server IP Network (Subnet 3) Location Tracking WAN Hotspot for Patients and Visitors Mobile Monitoring 7

Case Studies From Around the World Using Existing Wi-Fi Networks for Tracking Assets, Patients and Caregivers Asset management & tracking Asset Tracking - Why? Where is it Now? Where is the closest piece of equipment I need? Where can I find a piece of equipment? Where was its last location? History? Utilization? When is the last time a piece of equipment was serviced, and where can I find it? How many of each type of equipment are out there and where are they? What s on the 3 rd floor? Do we have everything we need in the operation room? 8

Asset Tracking - Why? National average utilization of mobile equipment is 45% - Universal Hospital Services Typical hospital can t locate 15-20% of its assets Hospitals can lose nearly $1 million a year in medical equipment thefts alone HCPro Healthcare Marketplace Five to fifteen percent of hospital inventory is written off each year since it can no longer be located or more importantly serviced Frost & Sullivan Spending too much on medical equipment? Equipment moving from patient to patient without going through decontamination in between has become a significant issue to JCAHO in regard to infection control in hospitals JCAHO Sentinal Alert The management of assets is for many Hospital organizations a very labor intensive job with lots of manual, administrative work and mostly badly connected into the Hospitals ERP/KIS System. Equipment tracking saves MONEY = increased profitability Monitor the usage and increase utilization of existing assets or / and reduce the number of existing assets and costly rental programs. 10 to 20 items per bed (4500 items in a 300 bed hospital) Medical pumps cost EUR 3 000 8 000/piece Respirators cost EUR 25 000/piece Standard wheelchair costs EUR 500/piece Special wheelchairs costs EUR15 000/piece Average bed costs EUR 2 000 3 000/piece Special beds can cost up to EUR 35 000/piece (bed for burn victims) A mid size hospital in Japan using 180 ICU grade ventilators in their daily operation, only using on average 100 units full utilized, 80 extra units, to secure the on-time availability, due to maintenance down-time, loss, and continuous misplacement of these units. Additional savings are achieved over time, through reduction of maintenance programs, reduction of the short-term equipment rental programs and reduced number of lost equipment. 9

Equipment tracking saves MONEY = increased profitability Reduce new asset purchases Eliminate excess purchase that are allocated as overage. East Coast US hospital needs 500 new IV pumps. However, due to low utilization rate of these equipment, they first plan to purchase 100 extra units, to secure ontime IV Pump availability. Instead, they decide to invest in Ekahau RTLS to track 500 units real-time to improve the asset utilization, and only purchase 530 pumps, creating immediate $200k savings at purchase Equipment tracking saves MONEY = increased profitability Reduce theft and accidental losses Hospitals can lose nearly $1 million a year in medical equipment thefts alone - HCPro Healthcare Marketplace Theft of medical equipment & supplies costs hospitals $4,000 per bed each year & with over 975,000 staffed beds in the U.S., this represents a total loss of $3.9 billion annually 10-20% of all medical equipment is totally lost US hospital customer: Approx. 3-4 wheelchairs are stolen per month Improve equipment maintenance can t fix what you can t find - be able to find to maintain critical equipment Five to fifteen percent of hospital inventory is written off each year since it can no longer be located or more importantly serviced Frost & Sullivan The management of assets is for many Hospital organizations a very labor intensive job with lots of manual, administrative work and mostly badly connected into the Hospitals ERP/KIS System Provide event notification and escalation in order to Manage mobile clinical equipment 10
