Why LoopStar 700? Features Converged packet access at the network edge Complete suite of Ethernet services and TDM services Proven resiliency without the usual high costs Packet- and circuit-based transport Intelligent service management at the multi-service demarcation point Protected Switching Ring (PSR) a low-cost, sub-50 millisecond failover scheme for Optical Ethernet Multiprotocol Label Switching (MP) and Virtual Private LAN Services (VP) Converged packet-based access platforms designed to operate at the edge of the metro and wide area network With customers demanding higher speed Ethernet services at lower price points, service providers are faced with the task of evolving their circuit-switched backbones to IP/MP-based backbones. During this evolution, carriers will have to maintain and continue to offer services that have been traditionally offered over SONET/SDH, Frame Relay and ATM circuits. This creates a dilemma: How can providers enable these new Ethernet services and applications while maintaining the viability of current services and infrastructures? With features like Q-in-Q tag stacking, 4,095 VLANS, rate limiting, link aggregation, multiple levels of Quality of Service (QoS), 802.1d bridging, a unique EtherDACS port/vlan switching mode and Ethernet transport ranging from 10/100 to Gigabit Ethernet, the LoopStar 700 allows service providers to offer robust Ethernet services to their customers. The LoopStar 700 offers one of the most comprehensive suites of pseudo-wire Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) services over packet-switched infrastructures. Using standards-based circuit emulation with patented technology, LoopStar 700 products can transport T1/E1/J1 services with ILEC-quality.

LoopStar 750 Four interface slots for large customers or aggregation This 4-slot product is optimized for larger customers, multi-tenant buildings and service aggregation sites such as at the central office or wiring center. The LoopStar 750 can also function as an aggregation point for any of the other members of the LoopStar 700 family. NEBS 3 certified with redundant AC or DC power options, this product can be configured for any number of scenarios. For customers anticipating growth and looking to add new services, the LoopStar 722 is an attractive option. The flexibility of a single interface slot and a series of fixed ports allows both service providers and end users to minimize their initial investment and still respond to future needs. Interface cards include: 1 port Gigabit Ethernet (SFP) 8 port 100Base-FX (SM or MM) 8 port 10/100Base-T Combo 4 port 10/100Base-T and 2 port 100Base-FX (SFP) 1 port OC-12c/STM-4c 1 port OC-3c/STM-1 3 port DS3 with NxDS3 option 8 port T1/E1/J1 1 port Channelized DS3 LoopStar 722 Mix of expandable and fixed ports scales from small to large customer sites With fixed ports consisting of a single SFP Gigabit Ethernet, four 10/100Base-Ts, and two T1/E1/J1s, the LoopStar 722 can be deployed in many locations even without the optional interface card. As the customer s needs grow, the same cards used in the LoopStar 750 can be used to scale with the services required.

LoopStar 712 Ideally suited for extending Ethernet and TDM services to single and small customer locations The LoopStar 712 offers the complete suite of LoopStar 700 software with full support for both differentiated Ethernet or legacy services, AC or DC power options, intelligent management and a mix of connectivity choices. When used in conjunction with the The LoopStar 711 offers the complete suite of LoopStar 700 software, AC or DC power options, patented T1/E1 circuit emulation, intelligent management and a mix of connectivity choices, creating a multi-service Protected Switching Ring (PSR) technology, the LoopStar 712 can be used to build costeffective resilient optical Ethernet rings at any size location, providing customers with the reliability and speeds they desire. LoopStar 711 Leveraging a full suite of Ethernet and TDM services to cost-effectively utilize fiber networks access platform remarkably versatile for its price point. It comes equipped with two 100Base-FX ports, four 10/100Base-T ports and two T1/E1/J1 ports for circuit emulation services.

LoopStar 745 and LoopStar 745P Higher speed Ethernet and multi-services over DS3 The NEBS 3 certified LoopStar 745 offers two 10/100Base-T Ethernet ports for customer traffic and one packetized DS3 port for network connectivity. Attaching the LoopStar 745 to an existing SONET/SDH add drop multiplexer (ADM), a DS3 fixed wireless link or a leased DS3 facility quickly extends Ethernet services to new and existing With two customer-facing 10/100Base-T Ethernet ports and four or eight networkfacing T1/E1 ports, the LoopStar 714 and LoopStar 718 provide economical point-topoint or hub-and-spoke Ethernet services to off-network locations that can only be reached through T1 and E1 circuits. customers. The LoopStar 745P adds a circuitemulated T1/E1/J1 port to the subscriber side, allowing service providers to maintain current TDM revenue streams such as PBX voice and fax traffic while offering the nextgeneration solutions of a packet-based network. LoopStar 714 and LoopStar 718 Extend Ethernet services to all customers over readily available T1/E1 facilities Using standards-based Multilink Point-to- Point Protocol (MLPPP) to aggregate circuits, the LoopStar 714 supports the delivery of Ethernet services over 1 to 4 T1/E1s (6 Mb/s or 8 Mb/s) while the LoopStar 718 doubles the available bandwidth to 8 T1/E1s (12 Mb/s or 16 Mb/s).

Revenue Through Virtual Private LAN Service (VP) The end goal for metro Ethernet service providers is to offer their customers ubiquitous connectivity. One method is to create a multipoint-to-multipoint Ethernet service which will connect multiple LANs and behave as if all of these LANs are part of the same network, whether they are local or dispersed geographically. The emerging Virtual Private LAN Service (VP) standard offers the potential to provide this functionality. ADC s LoopStar 700 product family can separate customer traffic into VP pseudo-wires according to the different services or applications required by the customer. VP provides several key benefits to carriers and service providers, including: Ubiquitous connectivity. The complete vision for Ethernet services is to deliver true protocol-transparent, multipoint-tomultipoint connectivity across wide area networks (WANs). VP provides this type of ubiquitous connectivity service across multiple metro networks, regardless of location. VP-B VP-A VP-A 750 VP-B 750 VP-B PE MTU-s 722 750 PE PE IP/MP Reduced network complexity. VP allows all services to appear as if they are on the same Local Area Network (LAN), regardless of their physical location. This removes complexity from the enterprise network and allows carriers to scale their networks faster and easier. Increased scalability. VP takes advantage of an underlying IP/MP infrastructure, which offers tremendous scaling advantages over spanning tree and VLANs. In a VPenabled network, provider edge (PE) devices are used to create one or more VP domains, which are maintained as individual VP instances on the PE box. Rapid service provisioning. VP uses Ethernet, the most widely deployed LAN technology in the world, as the customer handoff. This greatly simplifies the LAN/WAN boundary and allows for rapid and flexible service provisioning. LoopStar 700 Differentiators Intelligent Services Management Every aspect of LoopStar 700 intelligent services management provides carriers with the ability to manage, monitor and diagnose both the multi-service connection to the customer on one side of the demarcation point and the connection to the service provider on the other. Managing the Network Interface Device (NID) The LoopStar 700 s NID functions make it easy to install, provision and manage anywhere from a simple point-to-point connection to thousands of service demarc points, without the need for truck rolls to provision new services or diagnose problems. Capabilities are detailed in the individual data sheets. Managing the User Network Interface (UNI) The LoopStar 700 s UNI functions are designed to enable the carrier to generate multiple revenue streams from a set of differentiated services that are backed by rigorous SLAs. Capabilities include VLAN switching, stacking and swapping; granular rate-limiting and policing; layer 2+ traffic classification based on VLAN ID, VLAN P-bits, ToS bits and DiffServ Code Points; multiple service queues and queue servicing mechanisms; and patented automatic jitter buffer optimization to minimize delay in circuit emulation applications. Pseudo-Wire Emulation Using a robust and patented circuit emulation technique, the LoopStar 700 platform converts TDM traffic into packet form and feeds it to the Layer 2 switch for transport over the packet backbone. A LoopStar 700 at the far end converts the traffic back into TDM for delivery. The emulated TDM circuit meets the same performance specifications that carriers expect from traditional SONET/SDH transport systems. For example, the LoopStar 700 family supports: A unique adaptive timing technique with advanced algorithms to meet circuit jitter specifications even in the face of high packet delay variation and packet impairments. The LoopStar 700 can also synchronize from an external timing source or incoming link. An auto-optimizing jitter buffer that intelligently absorbs packet delay variation, recovers from out-of-order packets, and minimizes the effects of lost packets. Mapping of circuits to standard IP packets that are carried over standard Ethernet frames, with or without VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) tags. Protected Switching Ring (PSR) LoopStar 700 s patent-pending Protected Switching Ring (PSR) is a low-cost ring topology that can be built using standard Ethernet technology and methodology and can recover from multiple types of faults within 50 milliseconds. PSR capabilities provide a much needed answer for carriers who want to use Gigabit Ethernet over dark fiber. PSR can also be used to extend backbone rings that use other technologies such as DWDM, SONET/SDH or RPR and allow providers to offer resilient services to smaller locations.
