About Theodore Roosevelt's Life Do you know who the teddy bear is named after? Theodore Roosevelt, Teddy was always a honest and trustworthy man who wanted everybody to be treated equally and that s why he is my hero. Since Teddy was often sick and a frail child his father taught him to lift weights at the age of ten and this made him stronger physically and mentally. As an adult Teddy was glad he did that because then he would be more sick and lifting weights helped become less sick and if he didn't do that then he wouldn't be able to do many things. In 1898 the U.S found out that Spain was mistreating Cuba and the U.S wanted to help earn their freedom and declared war on Spain, Teddy led one of the charges that attacked Spain. The charge Teddy was leading lost 66 men but won the war which means Cuba was finally free from Spain. Three years later William McKinley (the president) wasn t doing good things but, Teddy didn't get to talk to him about it because William McKinley got assassinated in 1901. Then he ran for president and of course became the 21 president of the United States of America. Since he thought the previous president wasn't doing good things he made some changes which helped the citizens of the United States of America. Theodore Roosevelt s life long dream was to make the world a better place. To accomplish this goal he wanted to help people with their problems and since he was president this was an easier thing to do. So he made better work conditions so people would not get hurt and payed people more so they could afford items and food and not live in the streets. All of the things Teddy did helped many people in many ways. Theodore Roosevelt was a adventurous man, Caring, and and always wanted to do what was right. I think Theodore Roosevelt is a very peaceable man. Who s your hero?
This is a beautiful picture of the coast of Cuba. Where that war against the United States and Spain took place. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/centralamericaandcaribbean/cuba/7166448/cuba-journey-to-the-provincial-heart.html
Back of Postcard May 12, 1898 Dear Bob, Today I found out something wonderful. My country (Cuba) has just been given independence from Spain who has been controlling us for a very long time. When I first heard about Theodore Roosevelt I thought he was a person who only helped Americans. But now I know that he is a caring person who likes to help everybody not just Americans. I changed my mind about this man because he helped Cuba earn their freedom. He helped by leading one of the charges that attacked Spain even when he didn't have to help Cuba. I found out that the charge that Theodore Roosevelt led lost 66 men and won the war. Oh I forgot to tell you that the United States declared war on Spain because they care so much about Cuba's independence and well being. I am glad now that our problem about Spain controlling us is solved. You are lucky to have people in your country that are so nice and caring. Theodore Roosevelt is my new hero now and it would be a pleasure meeting him. Your Friend, Nora Parks Bob Parks Southern Red Maple Dr. Orlando, FL 32828
Reflection I chose the images that I did because it shows that Theodore Roosevelt likes teddy bears, likes to spend time with his family, wanted people to have equal rights and that he gave speeches to the public. I don't know if you can see those quotes from Teddy I put in my collage but one of them says "A man who is good enough to shed blood for his country is good enough to be given a square deal afterwards. That means that if you do something in anyway to help your country you should be given an award no matter who you are. I chose this quote to put in my collage because I agree with it and now people follow this. An example of this are the men and women in the military help our country win wars get a reward when they return home. Sometimes I think that quotes should be turned into laws.
