Oman Open Data Initiative Oman National Open Data Initiative (ODIN) aims to encourage every government agency and department to open its data archives to the public so as to create more transparent, participatory and collaborative government accelerating e- transformation. Any data that is collected by a government agency which is (1) free for public use (2) is in an open format that the public can easily interpret even through common technological tools (3) and is not subject to data protection controls that protect the privacy and other intellectual property rights of the land, is considered as Open Data.

Open Data policy ODIN Objectives Oman s Open Data policy ensures wider access to government data by providing raw data for re-use, to enable new services and better insights to citizen, business and government while improving the quality of public services collaboratively. The following objectives are in focus: Escalate the delivery of E-Government services in a seamless manner by enabling collaborative government Enable government agencies to be able to freely share data and reduce the burden on the public in providing such data repeatedly Improves accountability of the government agency who is the custodian of the data Encourages citizen engagement to improve the quality of public services Increase opportunities for this raw data being used creatively to build innovative applications with a positive economic and social benefit to the public

Open Data focus areas Constitutional data: Member of the councils and their portfolio and office contact details Demographic data: Population, geographic divisions, age distribution, geographic spread Public finance: Revenues, Income and Expenditure, budgets and plans Social- Economic indicators Sector-wise, business activity-wise details Healthcare data Health institutions, locations, services, cases, specialties Transport data Public and private facilities, movements, accident statistics Education data Institutions, registrations, level of study, specialization, Social benefits data Institutions, beneficiary by region, education level Legal data Laws, Royal decrees, ministerial decisions and full text ICT data List of services, subscribers, usage pattern

ODIN The Future. Double the number of data sets and the participating entities. Open data competition encourage innovation Include Open Data in next HM Award 2014 will include focus on Open Data across relevant categories. Open Data Institutional Collaboration Expert knowledge sharing Open Data related policies as an extension of the OeGAF Information Reference Model Promote SME Service and App development Centre of Excellence with Data technologists, statisticians, and tools for data visualisations.
