Overview Overview Thank you for purchasing Ubiquiti TOUGHCable Ethernet Cabling and TOUGHCable Ethernet Connectors. Ubiquiti offers two different types of industrial-grade TOUGHCable Ethernet Cabling in 1000ft (304.8m) lengths and 24 American Wire Gauge (AWG): Level 1 Shielding Protection Category 5e Outdoor Carrier Class Shielded Cable Level 2 Shielding Protection Category 5e Outdoor Carrier Class Shielded Cable that features an Anti-Crosstalk Divider and is designed to provide optimal performance on Gigabit Ethernet networks. Ubiquiti TOUGHCable Ethernet Connectors are specifically designed for use with Ubiquiti TOUGHCable Ethernet Cabling and are offered in 100 pc. bags. TOUGHCable Ethernet Connectors: Eliminate Ethernet electrostatic discharge (ESD) attacks and Ethernet hardware damage Allow rapid field deployment without soldering Installation Requirements TOUGHCable Ethernet Cabling Level 1 Shielding Protection Level 2 Shielding Protection TOUGHCable Ethernet Connectors Wire Strippers/Cutters Cable Crimpers 1

TOUGHCable Cabling and Connectors Wiring the Cable (Level 1 Shielding) 1. Use a TOUGHCable Connector to gauge how much of the jacket to strip (roughly 22 mm), mark the appropriate length and strip the necessary length of cable jacket with wire strippers. Note: Use caution when stripping the jacket from the cable to avoid severing the foil shield protecting the copper drain wire and twisted pair cable. 2

Wiring the Cable (Level 1 Shielding) 2. Carefully fold back the foil shield to expose the drain wire and twisted pair cable. Note: Do not rip the foil shield completely away so that a portion of it can later be inserted into the TOUGHCable Connector to terminate the connection. 3. Carefully fold back the drain wire, numbered 0 in the Cable Wiring Specification (T568B). 3

TOUGHCable Cabling and Connectors 4. Cut or tear away the the clear plastic wrapping around the twisted pair cable and untwist the wires that are exposed. 5. Place the wires in order as shown below (and as detailed in the Cable Wiring Specification (T568B), ensuring they are as straight and compact as possible. 4

Wiring the Cable (Level 1 Shielding) 6. Using wire cutters, trim the end of the wires evenly to ensure a straight surface to insert into the TOUGHCable Connector. 7. Fold the foil shield back up towards the exposed wires; leaving roughly half the distance exposed while covering the bottom half with the foil. Fold back any excess foil. Note: Keep the excess foil folded back so the inside is facing out. Ensure the drain wire remains folded back, as this will loop through the drain wire hook on the outside of the connector. 5

TOUGHCable Cabling and Connectors 8. Keeping the wires in the correct order, mold the foil firmly around the covered portion of wires and insert the wires carefully into the TOUGHCable Connector. 6 Note: Make sure the wires are inserted according to the Cable Wiring Specification (T568B) and that the folded back portion of the foil shield makes connection with the metal inside of the TOUGHCable Connector. Ensure that the wires are inserted into the TOUGHCable Connector completely and that they make contact with the tip of the connector. Also, for extra protection and support of the twisted wire cabling inside, ensure that the outer cable jacket fits inside the TOUGHCable Connector prior to crimping in step 9.

Wiring the Cable (Level 1 Shielding) 9. Place the TOUGHCable Connector and twisted pair cable into the cable crimper and press firmly. Note: Make sure the drain wire remains outside of the connector. 10. Loop the exposed portion of drain wire through the drain wire hook on the outside of the connector and fold it over for a secure hold. 11. Repeat steps 1-10 for the other end of the Level 1 Shielding TOUGHCable Ethernet Cable. Congratulations! The Level 1 Shielding TOUGHCable Ethernet Cable is ready for use. 7

TOUGHCable Cabling and Connectors Wiring the Cable (Level 2 Shielding) 1. Use a TOUGHCable Connector to gauge how much of the jacket to strip (roughly 22 mm), mark the appropriate length and strip the necessary length of cable jacket with wire strippers. 2. Carefully remove the twisted wire shielding covering the drain wire and foil shield. 8

Wiring the Cable (Level 2 Shielding) 3. Carefully fold back the drain wire numbered 0 in the Cable Wiring Specification (T568B). 4. Carefully fold back the foil shield to expose the clear plastic wrapping around the twisted pair cable. Note: Do not rip the foil shield completely away so that a portion of it can later be inserted into the TOUGHCable Connector to terminate the connection. 9

TOUGHCable Cabling and Connectors 5. Cut or tear away the the clear plastic wrapping around the twisted pair cable and untwist the wires to expose the plastic Anti-Crosstalk Divider. 6. Using wire cutters, cut away the exposed portion of the plastic Anti-Crosstalk Divider. 10

Wiring the Cable (Level 2 Shielding) 7. Place the wires in order as shown in the Cable Wiring Specification (T568B), ensuring they are as straight and compact as possible. 8. Fold the foil shield back up towards the exposed wires; leaving roughly half the distance exposed while covering the bottom half with the foil. Fold under or tear away any excess foil. Using wire cutters, trim the end of the wires evenly to ensure a straight surface to insert into the TOUGHCable Connector. 11

TOUGHCable Cabling and Connectors 9. Keeping the wires in the correct order, insert the wires carefully into the TOUGHCable Connector. Note: Make sure the wires are inserted according to the Cable Wiring Specification (T568B) and that the outside of the foil shield makes connection with the metal inside of the TOUGHCable Connector. Ensure that the wires are inserted into the TOUGHCable Connector completely and that they make contact with the tip of the connector. Also, for extra protection and support of the twisted wire cabling inside, ensure that the outer cable jacket fits inside the TOUGHCable Connector prior to crimping in step 10. 12

Wiring the Cable (Level 2 Shielding) 10. Place the TOUGHCable Connector and twisted pair cable into the cable crimper and press firmly. Note: Make sure the drain wire remains outside of the connector. 11. Loop the exposed portion of drain wire through the drain wire hook on the outside of the connector and fold it over for a secure hold. 12. Repeat steps 1-11 for the other end of the Level 2 Shielding TOUGHCable Ethernet Cable. Congratulations! The Level 2 Shielding TOUGHCable Ethernet Cable is ready for use. 13
