USEFUL INFORMATION Valencia City Valencia is the capital of the autonomous community of Valencia and the third largest city in Spain after Madrid and Barcelona, with around 0.8 million inhabitants in the administrative center. Valencia is also Spain's third largest metropolitan area, with a population ranging from 1.7 to 2.5 million. Valencia offers a combination of avant- garde style, culture and Mediterranean spirit, bound to captivate any visitor. There are thousands of things to discover. Arriving by train There are two main train stations within the city's metropolitan area. In addition, the Alaris and Euromed long- distance trains connect Valencia with Spain's main cities. Connections from Joaquín Sorolla Station (AVE) - SHUTTLE BUS: Present your train ticket to travel for free to Estación del Norte, located in the city centre. - METRO: Joaquín Sorolla Station (lines 1 and 5). Roads in Valencia Valencia has a modern road network that makes it easily accessible from any city, both in the Iberian peninsula and further afield. The Mediterranean AP- 7 motorway, which runs the whole length of the Spanish Mediterranean coastline from north to south, connects with the European motorway network, the A- 23 Sagunto- Somport motorway and the A- 3 Madrid- Valencia motorway. Most of the passenger services operating in Valencia, both national and international, begin and end at Valencia Bus Station. Valencia Bus Station Menéndez Pidal, 11. 46009 Valencia. Bus: 8, 29, 60, 61,62, 63, 73, 79 Getting around Valencia Buses in Valencia Valencia has a city and suburban bus network that reaches every corner of the city. Bus services start at 4 am on some of the lines, and end at 10.30 pm. Then follows the night bus service, which ends at 2 am, except for on Fridays, Saturdays and the nights before public holidays, when it continues until 3:30 am. As well as regular day and night services, in summer and at other specific times such as during the European Grand Prix of F1 or major festivals, additional special bus services are put on. Services to the suburbs are provided by a consortium of transport companies grouped together under the name of Metrobús. These services link the city with surrounding towns and villages. Valencia Metro Getting around by metro is really easy: visit www.metrovalencia.com, where you can look up the stops that will be most convenient for you, plan your journey in real time or check and download the timetable. If you are travelling on lines 3 or 5 of the metro, we suggest you stop off at La Alameda, an important example of the Valencian architecture designed by Santiago Calatrava. The station is located underneath the Exposición Bridge, which is another jewel in the crown of this Valencian architect and is not to be missed. LANGUAGE There are two official languages in Valencia: "Valenciano", used in the Valencian Community, and Spanish, Spain's official language. POSTAL SERVICES The Central Post and Telegraph Office (Plaza del Ayuntamiento, 24) is open on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and between 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Telephone: 96 310 27 30. Stamps are also available in all tobacconists. TIME ZONE People generally eat later than in other European countries: breakfast (7:30 and 10:00 a.m.) is similar to the continental style. Restaurants serve lunch between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., and dinner from 8:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. SHOPPING Now you can go shopping in Valencia any day of the year. Although normal shop opening hours are from 10 am to 8.30 pm, you will find malls and shops in tourist areas that are open every day, including Sundays and public holidays (except 1 and 6 January, 1 May and 25 December). The areas where shops are open every day of the week are: - Jardín del Turia: from Nou d'octubre bridge to Astilleros bridge. - Valencia city centre: Ciutat Vella and Ensanche areas. - Els Orriols: around Ciudad de Valencia stadium. TIPPING Tips are included in all prices and bills, so tipping is not considered obligatory. However, if the service received is considered satisfactory, especially in bars and restaurants, a tip is often left. WEATHER Valencia enjoys a mild temperate Mediterranean climate. The average annual temperature is 17ºC with warm summers and very mild winters, rarely below 10ºC. There is only light rainfall mainly in autumn and the beginning of spring.

BANKS Most banks are open from Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Only a few branches open on Saturday mornings. There are 24- hour automatic tellers around the city, and most (Servired, 4B, etc.) offer international services. CREDIT CARDS Most hotels, restaurants and shops in Valencia accept the main credit cards such as American Express, VISA, Mastercard, 4B, Access y Diners Club. ELECTRICITY Standard electrical voltage in Valencia is 220-240 V AC, 50 Hz. A transformer and an adapter are necessary to use North American electrical appliances whose plugs have two square pins.
