Business Customers Electricity y( (ex-vat) The focus of this presentation is on the comparative electricity and gas price data for the second semester (July December) of 2012 with updated data for Ireland for 1 st semester 2013. There has been significant ifi fluctuation ti in oil and gas prices since 2007. Crude oil prices peaked in July 2008 at $148 per barrel. The average price over the year in 2008 was $97. During the second half of 2012 the average price of a barrel of oil was $110, a fall of 2.7% relative to the first half of 2012. Between the second half of 2011 and the first half of 2012 the price (in sterling) of natural gas at the UK balancing point rose by 4.3%. During the same period the value of the euro fell against sterling resulting in the gas price rise being 10.4% in euros terms. During the second semester of 2012 there was a further 7.9% increase in the euro price of gas.

Business Customers Electricity y( (ex-vat) The upward pressure on gas prices in 2012 as mentioned above caused a knock-on effect on electricity prices. In addition, the rebates on electricity for large energy users (LEU) ended on 30th September 2012 which contributed to higher rates of price increase in the larger consumption bands ID, IE and IF. During the period July - December 2012 electricity prices to small business customers in Ireland (band IB) increased by the smallest amount (1.4%). These consumers account for 31% of the business electricity market. Other small to medium business consumers saw prices increase by 6% and 8.3% (bands IC and IA respectively). These consumers account for 22% of the business electricity market. Large business consumers (bands ID, IE and IF) saw prices increase of 15.2%, 17.3% and 12.5% respectively during the second half of 2012. These consumers account for 47% of the business electricity market.
