Technical Description Your Life. Our Enthusiasm

The Shopevolution Self-Scanning System has been developed using the most widespread technological standards, which guarantee the highest compatibility, flexibility and customization possibilities for any type of Back Office and POS system installed in the store. Shopevolution s powerful promotional engine enables the development of the POS system s promotions, therefore allowing customers to see the net prices of scanned products in real-time on the terminal s display screen. The innovative shopper terminal with color display used by the Shopevolution I7252 Shopper Assistant, is a personalized virtual assistant for customers in the store, focusing particularly on their personal needs. Current promotion information is displayed, together with a shopping list and locations where desired items can be found. The dispenser for Shopevolution allows a reduction in occupied store area, as it effectively takes advantage of the space provided by the architectural structures in the store (walls, columns, etc.) for the vertical installation of the terminal cradles. 03 Solution Overview 05 Main Components Details 06 Enhanced Shopping Assistant 07 Shopevolution Application 10 Technical Specifications

02

03 Shopper Assistant Shoppers use the I7252 Shopper Assistant to scan the bar code of the products they want to buy. The innovative and intuitive user interface, with a large color back-lit display and a 6 key keypad includes the green spot (Datalogic patented feature), which provides "good reading" feedback directly on the bar code, where the user usually tends to be looking. Solution Overview Cradle The I912/3 cradle has three terminal slots. The special structure of the cradle makes it possible to design any type of dispenser (wall-mounted or islands), which holds twice the number of terminals in the same area compared to competing systems.

04 Self-Scanning Dispenser Cradles are installed on the vertical walls of one or more of the compact dispenser units. The dispenser can be made simply and quickly by Retailers, who can select the desired forms and construction materials to be used. The dispensers, which are made for wall, column or island installation, may be installed in the store at a very low cost, since no cables are needed to connect the cradles to the local area network. Radio frequency communication between terminal and server also occurs when the terminal is positioned in the dispenser. Shopevolution Application The Shopevolution Self-Scanning System has a web-based software architecture developed using the most up-to-date industry standard technologies. The powerful promotional engine ensures flexible and effective implementation of retailer promotional business models in order to calculate and display the final product net price on the terminal in real time. The flexible management of the information from other in-store IT systems (Back Office, POS, CRM) is developed using XML technology that describes in detail the record layout of the input file for the Shopevolution database. A standard multimedia kiosk is used to display promotional messages, service communications, and shopperspecific banners and promotions. Accessories Checkout Multipocket Holder It is designed to be mounted onto a vertical side of the cash desk and, therefore, to take up very little space. Up to 8 terminals can be placed in the convenient and sturdy pockets. Trolley Holder Designed to be installed on the shopping trolley by means of two self-threading screws, the holder is made of material that resists acts of vandalism, bumps and extreme climatic conditions. 05 06 07 10 Main Components Details Enhanced Shopping Assistant Shopevolution Application Technical Specifications

05 I7252 Shopper Assistant The I7252 Shopper Assistant is lightweight with very good ergonomics and meets the industry standards of robustness and reliability. Stylish with a delightful design, the I7252 is equipped with a large color highly legible back-lit display, a 6 key keypad and an innovative and intuitive user interface, which includes the green spot (Datalogic patented feature), providing "good reading" feedback directly on the code, where the user usually tends to be looking. Based on the proven, powerful combination of the Intel XScale processor with Microsoft Windows CE, the I7252 Shopper Assistant fully supports IEEE802.11b (Wi-Fi) standard Wireless LAN technology and provides a long-lasting rechargeable Li-ION battery pack. Rubber protection surrounds all the sharp areas (corners) and is particularly thick around the display and the laser engine. The keypad overlay can be personalized in terms of color, graphics and symbols. Main Components Details I912/3 Cradle The I912/3 cradle has three terminal slots, each equipped with its own control unit, an electromechanical system for blocking/releasing the terminal, back-light notification, intelligent batterymanagement circuits and a diagnostic system. Its special structure makes it possible to design any type of dispenser (wall-mounted or island) easily, allowing twice the number of terminals to be installed per vertical square meter with respect to the competing systems.

06 Promotion List Promotion Details Easy Location Enhanced Shopping Assistant The Enhanced Shopping Assistant, Shopevolution 3.0 s basic feature, transforms the self-scanning terminal from a simple bar code scanner to a customized Shopper Assistant. Customers have a virtual aide that joins them on their shopping trip. All the necessary information is displayed to help shoppers: a promotion item list, comarketing partner promotion information, and special discounts for self-scanning system users. The physical location of the products in the store can be found using the Product Locator feature on the Shopper Assistant. To customize and simplify the shopping experience, personal shopping lists can be displayed (the list of items currently being purchased, the list of items usually purchased, the list of favorite items entered in the retailer s e-commerce website, or the last shopping list) as well as updated information in real-time on the total spent, amount of loyalty points earned and list of loyalty points program prizes. An innovative graphic user interface enables the I7252 Shopper Assistant to quickly and easily take advantage of all the necessary information via an advanced navigation system and the use of the e key, which enables customers to view the desired personalized information. Personal Shopping List Today's Shopping List Real Time Information 07 Shopevolution Application 10 Technical Specifications

07 Shopevolution Application The Shopevolution Self-Scanning System has a web-based software architecture in which the central element is the Shopping Server, capable of managing the shopping operations made by the I7252 Shopper Assistants using a radio link with web-type protocols. All the processing capacity is concentrated on the server as the I7252 Shopper Assistant only acts as an interpreter of the data sent by the Shopping Server through the radio link. The Shopper Units are connected through a LAN to the Shopping Server and only manage the Marketing Communication Mode and graphic user interface functions for the customer who uses the I7252 Shopper Assistant. Industry standard technologies used for the development of the Shopevolution solution, including the Windows 2003 Server operating system, Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database, Internet Information Server for managing the server's web architecture, the programming languages Visual C++, ASP, ISAPI, HTML, XML, and XSL contribute to simplifying and speeding up integration and personalization activities. The web-based software architecture of Shopevolution makes it completely compatible to e-commerce and mobilecommerce, offering, in the near future, the possibility for consumers to connect to the store from their own PCs at home or from anywhere through mobile phones with Internet connection capabilities. Shopping Server Shopper Unit and Self-Scanning Dispenser Access point Shopper Assistant Reports Tools LAN Wireless LAN Retailer Back-Office Server Shopevolution Client Existing or New Pc Retailer Headquarters Shopper Assistant Access point POS POS The I7252 Shopper Assistant XML- Client was developed according to browser-like logic, using Datalogic's Development System, based on a standard C++ compiler, integrated by special libraries. Built on HTTP and TCP/IP protocols, it only interprets and displays XML information, structured with XSL technology by the Shopping Server, without adding any further processing. The graphic user interface of the I7252 Shopper Assistant can be completely personalized, as it is managed by the Shopevolution SSB (Smart Screen Builder). This effective and easy-to-use graphic tool provides the interactive Look and Feel definition of the Shopper Assistant screen features through colors, images, text, graphics effects, layout, etc. The large capacity Li-ION battery and the effective Power Management feature of the Shopper Assistant XML-Client provide flexible use of processing power (from 1 to 200 MHz), allowing all of the customer s shopping requirements to be managed efficiently.

08 The web-based software architecture of Shopevolution allows the use of an Internet browser to monitor and manage the system. Directly from the store office or remotely through the Intranet any information related to Shopevolution 's activities can be displayed on any PC that has a browser installed, regardless of the software and hardware platform. Shopevolution guarantees flexible management of information from other in-store IT systems (Back Office, POS, CRM), by using XML files that describe in detail the record layout of the input file for the Shopevolution database. The Shopevolution promotional engine ensures flexible and effective implementation of retailer promotional business models according to the store's different customer categories, thus allowing effective One-to- One Marketing policies to be managed successfully. The Shopevolution Multilanguage feature satisfies the need for different languages, depending on the nationality of the users. With this feature, the language of the messages shown on the shopper unit, Shopper Assistant and Shopevolution Back Office Application can be in the user s preferred language. 09 Loyalty Points Service Push Marketing Service The Shopevolution LPS (Loyalty Points Service) optional feature can manage several promotions in real time for the accumulation of loyalty points, and applies all the collection rules used by the retailer. From the moment the customer picks up the I7252 Shopper Assistant, the amount of loyalty points for all promotions can be seen in realtime, and updated while shopping. The Shopevolution PMS (Push Marketing Service) optional technology makes it possible to send multimedia marketing messages to the Shopper Assistant without a prompt (the customer does not need to activate the request), allowing retailers to apply the philosophy of Push Marketing and, on the basis of the customer s location in the store, promotions can be scheduled for specific times/dates (e.g. every Tuesday at 18:00) and particular shopping events (Event Driven Marketing). The message can be produced with specific audible signals (e.g. advertising jingles) to attract the customer s attention. Shopevolution Application E-Coupon Service The Shopevolution ECS (E-Coupon Service) optional feature allows personalized promotional coupons to be printed (coupon is a very widespread, popular and familiar marketing and communication tool for customers) before, during and after shopping according to the information processed by retailers and sent to Shopevolution. Promotional coupons, personalized according to customer category or individual customer, can be printed by shopper units, printers inside a shop, and printers at dedicated Self-Scanning cash registers. The Shopevolution EAS (E-Alarm Service) optional feature is an innovative and effective tool that helps Retailers and Authorized Service Providers ensure proper functioning of the system. Shopevolution EAS guarantees real-time monitoring and management of Shopevolution's system activity. If technical problems occur, Shopevolution EAS immediately and automatically informs the technicians, using the communication systems suggested by the retailer (i.e SMS, e-mail, System Management products). Shopevolution EAS makes in-store problem solving by technicians faster.
