Dear Presidents/Awards Chairpersons: Awards 2014-2015 A Night of Shining Stars The will hold its annual awards celebration at the general meeting on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 7:00 pm location to be announced. This packet contains nomination forms for the following awards: Recognition Awards to permit each PTA/PTSA the opportunity to have one of its members, parents, teachers, staff members or volunteers receive countywide recognition for doing a great job. Unit of Excellence Award honors each PTA/PTSA that demonstrates performance beyond the Standards of Continuing Affiliation. Top Program Awards to give each PTA/PTSA the opportunity to showcase as many as eleven of its best programs. Outstanding Educator of the Year to give each PTA/PTSA the opportunity to obtain countywide recognition for a member of its school s staff. There will be one primary and one secondary educator of the year award presented for the entire county. (Note: This award is based on performance during the 2014-2015 school year. This is NOT a lifetime achievement award.) The PTA Council Awards Committee must receive all Nominations forms by March 26, 2015. When completing the nomination forms, pay attention to the criteria and required documentation for each award; especially for the Local Unit of Excellence Award! Please keep a copy of each submitted nomination form for your records. *To be in Good Standing a local must be current in regards to council dues, state/ national dues, bylaws, insurance, incorporation, annual audit, annual filing of IRS 990 form, Maryland Charitable paperwork (if required) and current officer contact information has been provided for their president, treasurer and secretary.
Recognition Awards Each local PTA/PTSA is invited to submit the nomination of ONE (1) individual. Candidates may include individuals from any field parents, teachers, administrators, school staff members, nurses, therapists, instructional assistants, librarians, custodians, community volunteers, etc. All nominations MUST BE RECEIVED by the Council Awards Committee by March 26, 2015. Attn:, Franklin Elementary School bylaws, insurance, incorporation, annual audit, annual filing of IRS 990 form, Maryland Charitable paperwork and There are three levels within the Recognition Awards category: Certificate of Appreciation, Special Recognition Award, and Distinguished Service Award. Each local PTA may nominate ONE person for the Recognition Awards category. The PTA Council Awards Committee will then determine which level of recognition is warranted. In almost all cases, anyone nominated for recognition will be recognized. Certificate of Appreciation is awarded to those who have done an outstanding job for their local PTA/PTSA. Special Recognition Award is awarded to those individuals whose work has had a positive effect beyond the local PTA/PTSA. Examples might be membership chairmen whose efforts resulted in an increase in local membership, which also means an increase in countywide, state and national membership; a legislative committee worker whose efforts resulted in positive legislation that will affect children across the county, state, or nation; or a community volunteer whose landscaping talents have not only helped the school s gardening club, but also resulted in a beautification improvement for the entire community. Distinguished Service Award is typically awarded to those who have been laboring in a variety of PTA/PTSA activities for a long time and have accomplished many wonderful things, or those who managed to do something truly above and beyond the call of duty in a very short period of time. Certainly every PTA/PTSA has one individual who deserves to be recognized. Think about who that person might be, complete the nomination form, and send it in before the March 26, 2015 deadline!
