Boston University Admissions 233 Bay State Road Boston, Massachusetts 02215 Visiting Student Program Application

Information for Visiting Students Each year, Boston University admits a limited number of visiting students who wish to spend one semester or one academic year at the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) or School of Management (SMG). Visiting students are admitted to the University with approval from BU Admissions. Though entering the University as non-matriculating students, visiting students may live in BU residences (if accommodations are available) and take advantage of a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities. Visiting students are expected to enroll in four courses each semester. We welcome applications from students with strong academic records who are enrolled at other regionally accredited colleges or universities. Students holding a bachelor s degree received within the last three years are also welcome to apply. These applicants will be admitted based on the availability of courses, and priority will be given to those applicants whose proposed coursework demonstrates a defined scholastic or professional objective. An applicant must submit the attached application form and an official college transcript. If English is not your first language, you must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). In lieu of TOEFL, students may submit results of the International English Language Testing System exam (IELTS). Applications for the Visiting Student Program received by BU Admissions by March 1 for the fall semester, and by November 1 for the spring semester, will be given priority consideration. Costs for tuition, fees, room, and board are the same for visiting students as they are for full-time matriculated students at Boston University. The University is unable to offer financial assistance to visiting students. International students who need a student visa must submit a certified bank letter or credit reference from their sponsor s bank along with a letter of support from their sponsor. Though no early commitments for residence accommodations can be made for visiting students, those students who wish to live in University housing should indicate their intent on the application form. While acceptance to the Visiting Student Program does not guarantee admission to specific courses, applicants should note on the application the courses or areas of study they wish to pursue while at Boston University. Visiting students will meet with a University advisor to discuss course selection, review specific course prerequisites, and receive the required approval to register for classes. With the advisor s approval, visiting students may cross-register for one course per semester offered by another school or college of the University. All visiting students are expected to maintain a 2.00 minimum grade point average while at Boston University. Attendance at either the College of Arts & Sciences or the School of Management as a visiting student does not in any way imply or guarantee admission as a matriculated student in a degree program at a later date. Visiting students who apply for transfer admission to Boston University will be considered competitively with other transfer applicants at the time of application. Applicants who wish to register for fewer than four courses should contact Boston University s Metropolitan College. For further information, please go to bu.edu/met or call 617-353-3000.
