Iran s statistical System Statistical Center The statistical system is a semi-centralized system, led by Statistical Center (SCI). SCI is affiliated to the management and planning organization (MPO) which is headed by vice president.

High Council of Statistics (HCS) The HCS is composed of deputies for planning of 10 ministries and central bank. Head of HCS is the Head of MPO and SCI is it s secretariat.

Main duties of the SCI Statistical Center Implementation of demographic, economic, and social censuses and sample surveys and dissemination of results; Provision of statistical data to meet national development planning requirements; Provision of technical advice to statistical departments of ministries, government agencies and/or government affiliated bodies, state-owned companies, and whenever possible to private sector agencies;

Preparation and compilation of standards, methods, and regulations for statistical data production and dissemination; Implementation of scientific studies and researches on official statistics and related issues for quality improvement of the SCI's performance; and Compilation of required statistical data obtained from public and private sectors and centralized documentation of administrative records.

Main Objectives of SCI, s Enumerations i ) Compiling required statistics for developing plans. ii ) Preparing and updating statistical frames. iii ) Compiling national and Regional accounts.

Method of Data Collection i) Census _ Population & Housing. _ Agriculture. _ Establishment. ii) Survey _ Complete enumeration. _ Sample Survey. iii) Register data _ Administrative Records. _ Reports _ Documents

International standard classifications and recommendations i) System of National Account (ver.93). ii) International standard industrial classification of all economic activities (ISIC, Rev.3). iii) COICOP classification for final HH consumption. iv) COFOG classification for government consumption. v) CPC & HS for products and exports and imports accounts and GFS for government financial accounts.

vi) International standard classification of occupations (ISCO, 1988). vii) International standard classification of education (ISCED, 1976). viii) International standard classification of status Employment (ICSE, 1986).

Source of data and coverage of statistics Implementation of statistical projects for collecting data carried out regularly and annually some 30 surveys, which mainly target the economic sectors, are conducted.
