GROWTH & INDUSTRY EXPERTISE Ellin & Tucker traces its roots back to 1946 when Lester Ellin, a veteran of the Second World War, opened his accounting firm in downtown Baltimore. A dedicated family man, Ellin believed in building close relationships with his clients and developing an in-depth understanding of their needs; a commitment that has defined the firm s long-term success. Despite a tough economic climate, Ellin grew his firm steadily in the 1950s, serving wholesale distribution and manufacturing clients, the most prominent industries in and around the Port of Baltimore at the time. In 1962, Edward Tucker joined Ellin s firm. By 1972, they had become business partners and incorporated as Ellin & Tucker, Chartered. The 1970s and 80s were a time of rapid growth for the firm, as it grew its industry-specific expertise and expanded to include clients in the construction and real estate sectors. The firm hired Edwin Brake in 1982 as its administrator, making it one of the only accounting firms in the U.S. to hire a non-billable manager to oversee day-to-day operations. Brake quickly identified ways to increase Ellin & Tucker s efficiency, including alleviating the partners of non-billable work. In 1990, Brake became managing partner at Ellin & Tucker, leading the strategic direction of the firm, which employed 60 people at the time. By the late-90s, Brake had led the firm to more than double its business portfolio and its staff. Through the 1990s and 2000s, Ellin & Tucker has continued to expand its industry-specific expertise, adding law, non-profit, employee benefit plans, private equity, family wealth and technology clients to its portfolio of customers with sophisticated accounting needs. The firm s client base still includes some of the highly successful business families who first worked with Lester Ellin when he opened his doors in 1946. IN THE COMMUNITY Ellin & Tucker s founding principles underscore a belief in fiscal excellence and in serving as a community leader, tenets that hold true for the firm today. Through the leadership of its partners and employees, Ellin & Tucker supports the efforts of non-profit organizations by serving on boards and advisory committees, and volunteering at over one hundred worthy organizations. ###
