Strategy Reporting needs have been discussed with the Finance, Student Services, Financial Aid, Human Resources and IR groups. The groups have created a list of reports. Some of the reports will be created during the Argos Deployment Service (ADS) contract. The reports identified have been reviewed against the reporting needs of the various groups as well as the technical skill involved in producing the report and the Argos functionality employed. The IR group does not have any specific reports, but is involved in all of the reports especially validating the report results. The following reports are recommended to be included in the ADS contract work. These reports were selected based on meetings with the different functional areas and also for the use of Argos functionality. The Department Credit Hour report was not finished during the ADS report specification gathering. This report is at risk of not being included in the ADS project. The reports are listed in priority order. Student Admissions Management Dashboard (Show metrics such as # of applicants, admits, applied for housing, signed up for orientation, type, high school) Finance Operating Ledger Summary Report (Summary, Transactions and Invoices) Financial Aid Revised Award letter (Allow student to print their letter via Banner Self-Service) Financial Aid Financial Aid Administrator Dashboard (Show metrics, such as number of applicants, number of FAFSA submitted) Student Credits to Graduate report (Show student close to graduation) HR Employee Count Dashboard and OLAP (Show employees including faculty with multiple breakdowns of the overall count) Finance Department Credit Hours Report (College/Department, Hours Taught, Budget and Actual) www.evisions.com Evisions Montana State Argos Report Strategy Page 4 of 24

Additional Reports Considered The following reports from different areas were considered for inclusion in the ADS contract work. These reports were not selected for a variety of reasons. The most common reason is that the actual report requirements may prove difficult to obtain and thus use additional contract hours that could be spent on report building. In addition, many of the reports use basic Argos functionality and techniques and, while helpful to the institution, were not selected for inclusion because of that reason. Financial Aid Scholarship Support Reports (Students eligible, not eligible, etc.) Student Acknowledgement of Approval (Write to Banner table) Student Acknowledgement of Conditions (Write to Banner table) Student Ad Hoc Financial Aid Ad Hoc Financial Aid Customer Service Dashboard (dashboard) Academic Progress Dashboard (dashboard) Query Only Quick-flow (banner form consolidation) HR Employee Turnover Trending (dashboard) Average Salary Trending (dashboard) HR Ad Hoc Report Budget vs Actual Trending (dashboard) Common Report (combine multiple existing reports in to one) Employee Data Dump Banner/MS SQL Server report (multiple data sources) Payroll OLAP (OLAP) Finance Transaction History Vendor Ad Hoc Product/Item Ad Hoc CatBooks to Banner Report (multiple data sources) Inception to Date Grant Expenses/Funding Electronic Proposal Form www.evisions.com Evisions Montana State Argos Report Strategy Page 5 of 24

Securely store report output Use KNOX. KNOX is a secure file server that is used at Montana State University. Argos can use KNOX as an output destination. With WebDrive installed on MAPS, reports that are produced via schedules can be saved to the KNOX file server. Users can save their real time generated reports to KNOX as they will have access via WebDrive or Cadeaver. Reports generated via an Argos schedule can be saved to KNOX as a network location if the WebDrive software is installed on MAPS and MAPS is allowed to write to the WebDrive. The configuration of which drives MAPS can read/write is made within the MAPS Config Tool. The file structure of the MAPS WebDrive may need to be populated to reflect the Argos group structure so that the report can be placed in the appropriate area for the users. If there is no folder structure on the WebDrive, MAPS can at least place the report within the topmost folder. Obviously, any user that has access to KNOX can save a report in that location once they have the report. www.evisions.com Evisions Montana State Argos Report Strategy Page 7 of 24

Write to Custom/Existing tables Some of the data for metrics reporting is not currently collected. While this issue should not affect the ADS reports, future reports may need this capability. Argos can serve as a collection source for the data. An Argos DataBlock can be constructed to collect the required information from a user and this information can be written to a database table. In addition, there might be good reasons to have Argos write to a temporary table for reporting purposes. This technique is used generally for pre-processing data into a temporary reporting table for speed. There are two steps in this process. The first step is to configure special ADO connections in MAPS to allow for the writing to custom tables. The custom tables will be used to collect information to support Montana State report metrics that are currently not collected or allow for populating of a temporary report table. The second step is to create Argos DataBlocks to support the input or collection of this data. There are no reports generally associated with this type of DataBlock. The DataBlock consists of one or more forms to collect the required information. An Argos construct called SQL Variable handles the writing to a custom database table. Additional DataBlocks will be constructed to report on the collected information. The first type of report should be a validation report. This report is used to ensure the integrity of the data in the custom table and that the metrics report has valid data. The second type of report is the summary report showing the metric data. This report is most commonly a dashboard report with the metric data displayed in a chart. A CSV and Banded type report can also be used to report on the metrics data. Argos can write to Banner tables as well. This capability needs to be used carefully to ensure data integrity is maintained. There are Banner APIs that are available for use as well as other tables that can be updated to indicate that certain events have occurred. The example of this functionality is letter generation where the Banner table GURMAIL can be updated to indicate that a letter has been sent to the target person. www.evisions.com Evisions Montana State Argos Report Strategy Page 8 of 24
