STAATSKOERANT, 6 MAART 2015 No. 38544 3 BOARD NOTICE NOTICE 55 OF 2015 PROPOSED REGISTRATION CATEGORIES FOR INTERIOR DESIGNERS CALL FOR PUBLIC COMMENT SACAP is empowered in terms of section 36 (1) of the Architectural Profession Act, 2000 (Act No.44 of 2000) hereinafter referred to as "the Act" to make rules with regard to any matter that is required or permitted to be prescribed in terms of the Act and any other matter for the better execution of the Act. Council has in terms of Section 18 (1) (c) prescribed a category of registration for Interior Designer Professionals. Notice is hereby given that the South African Council for the Architectural Profession ("SACAP") is proposing to include Interior Designer Professionals as a category of registration in the architectural profession. The Notice is hereby given in terms of Section 36 (2) (a) of the Act to allow interested and affected persons within 30 days from the date of the publication of this notice to make written representation on the proposed registration categories for Interior Designer Professionals. It must be noted that SACAP must in terms of Section 26(2) of the Act recommend the type of work to be identified for the proposed category to the CBE in terms of the Act and the CBE shall identify the scope of work for the proposed category and consult the Competition Commission as required by the CBE Act, 2000 (Act No.43 of 2000). 4 No. 38544 GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, 6 MARCH 2015 Rule in terms of section 36 (1) The purpose of the rule is to provide a category of registration for persons qualified in terms of Interior Designer qualifications. 1. Categories of registration In terms of Section 18 (1), the categories in which a person may register in the architectural profession area) Professional, which is divided intoi. Professional Architect; ii. iii. iv. Professional Senior Architectural Technologist Professional Architectural Technologist Professional Architectural Draughtsperson; or b) Candidate, which is divided into i. Candidate Architect; ii. iii. iv. Candidate Senior Architectural Technologist; Candidate Architectural Technologist; or Candidate Architectural Draughtsperson; or c) Specified category prescribed by the Council 2. Council Resolution South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) resolved to prescribe a category of registration for Interior Designer Professionals. The Council proposes that professionals so qualified will be divided into the following categoriesa) Professional Interior Architect; b) Professional Senior Interior Designer; c) Professional Interior Designer; Candidates, will be categorised into a) Candidate Interior Architect b) Candidate Senior Interior Designer c) Candidate Interior Designer
STAATSKOERANT, 6 MAART 2015 No. 38544 5 The formal education required to be registered as a candidate is as follows; Matric/ Grade 12 Certificate; Three year Diploma/Bachelor degree; Honours/B Tech Degree; and Masters by Course Work/ M Tech Degree Upon completion of any of the above qualifications, a person will be registered as a candidate. A candidate will be expected to complete a two (2) year training period under a registered professional mentor in the category for which he or she is registered and submit monthly training records and write examination to be accepted as a professional in that category of the interior designer professionals' categories of registration. 3. Identification of Work. SACAP must in compliance with Section 26 (2) of the Act, 2000 (Act No.44 of 2000) consult on the type of work to be performed by this category of registered persons and thereafter make the required recommendations to the Council for the Built Environment (CBE), who will further interact with the Competition Commission, as per requirements of the CBE Act, 2000 (Act No.43 of 2000).
