THE CATHOLIC SCHOOL PRINCIPAL JOB DESCRIPTION The Catholic School Principal is the chief administrator and facilitator of the Christian learning environment. As the administrative head of the school, the principal has chief responsibility for the effective operation of the school as a Catholic, educational institution following the policies and guidelines established by the Department of Catholic Education in the Archdiocese of Mobile. I. The Principal cooperates in the Church s teaching mission and provides for religious development of the school community members. Responsibilities: Provides religious experiences and opportunities for students and faculty Supports parish/school sacramental programs by presence at parent meetings, enrollment ceremonies, and sacramental celebrations Assures Catholic Identity of the school II. The Principal provides leadership and planning in the areas of academic programs, public relations, and Christian faith community. Responsibilities: Provides a student-centered school based on the principles of child development Provides appropriate curriculum development Provides enrichment experiences and programs that strive to meet special needs Provides appropriate testing programs to assist student growth Provides teaching tools appropriate for a program of academic excellence Establishes appropriate faculty committees and coordinators Provides staff development and in-service Provides opportunities for faculty meetings and social gatherings Assists in the long-range planning process Establishes effective public relations program that communicates to all stakeholders Plans for student recruitment and registration Maintains personal credentials for certification and uses professional development opportunities for updating Supports parish and school functions by presence at activities III. The Principal supervises students and faculty, financial processes and maintenance programs. Responsibilities: Recruits and evaluates qualified, dedicated teachers Maintains and monitors student grading procedures Oversees auxiliary services such as cafeteria and building maintenance Insures that fire, health and safety standards are met Establishes and implements discipline procedures appropriate for varied developmental levels of students Assures sound financial procedures in reporting Maintains an accurate record keeping system for financial, student and employee records Prepares the annual budget with the pastor and school advisory board

IV. The Principal collaborates with persons and agencies, which provide direction and services for the school community. Responsibilities: Serves as executive secretary to the school advisory board Plans monthly board packet with executive committee Assures that standards set by the Catholic Department of Education, State of Alabama and local school advisory board are met Fosters a spirit of collaboration with all stakeholders Through the implementation of the responsibilities, relationships are established with the following: o Local school community: pastor, faculty, students, parents, other staff and parish support personnel o Policy making bodies: Catholic Department of Education, State of Alabama, and local School Advisory Board o Community support groups: parish, local network of Catholic school principals, civic organizations and community at large
