WHAT IS imode? Outline imode is proprietary technology, conceived to re-think the state of the art in the world of loudspeaker system control. Devices using this technology have a single on-board DSP that optimises the response of Outline enclosures and enables users to control numerous parameters. The processor can be divided logically into two parts: one containing default factory settings, necessary for the electro-acoustic components to operate in the most efficient way, and a user part, which allows users to create bespoke system parameters for specific applications. The user part allows users to select the input (digital or analogue), adjust sensitivity and regulate both groups of speakers and individual enclosures. The parameters that can be controlled are: level, delay (up to two seconds), polarity inversion, equalisation and mute. The factory part is not accessible to users, but includes all the settings necessary for ensuring enclosures operate at maximum efficiency within their design parameters. Each imode processor has the same number of processed channels as the frequency ranges covered by the loudspeakers of the enclosure in question. On each of these, it is possible to set level, delay, equalisation, crossover, 64-bit IIR filters and FIR filters, according to user requirements. A proprietary double compressor/limiter stage on each channel protects the transducers and amplifiers from excessively high signals, and thus ensures that the system will retain its stability, reliability and sonic characteristics even when operating at its maximum potential.

The imode processors are also specifically designed to communicate with the amplifiers to which they feed signals. This information is then made available to the end user via the network. The completely Ethernet-based communication protocol enables several imode devices to be linked, using easily-sourced standard cables and components. The choice of this technology enables very high communication speeds and also for data to be transmitted via wireless if necessary, with the aid of an access-point. Once a wireless network has been created, enclosures can be controlled via ipad, iphone or ipod touch devices. Apps specifically designed for each series of products are available on the App Store. The choice of control hardware and the immediacy of the network access delivers detailed and accurate system monitoring that is extremely useful for audio engineers and system technicians alike. For each connected enclosure, it is possible to monitor the levels of the input and the outputs for the system s sections by means of dedicated VU-meters, the status and activity of limiters, a clip record since last power-up, and information from the amplifier (with temperature and protection indications). Some devices are fitted with a sensor that measures the average impedance of each transducer when the enclosure receives a test signal (generated by the remote app). Developed entirely by Outline, imode technology delivers solutions designed for real-life applications, some of which are specific for each type of enclosure. For example, users will find a white LED on each enclosure that enables them to rapidly identify the device

with which they are communicating, stage monitors offer the possibility of storing and selecting user presets (even without an ipad), which can be recalled according to application, and Mini-COM.P.A.S.S. enclosures provide information on their horizontal configuration (sixteen different combinations of horizontal dispersion, from 60 to 150, are available). In short, imode technology enables precise electro-acoustic optimisation of the components it controls, while simultaneously providing all the adjustment possibilities required by end users, thus effectively eliminating the need for external processors, equalisers or similar equipment. This means enhanced operational and commercial efficiencies via reduced costs and space required for storing or transporting other equipment. As a consequence of the extremely rapid communication, monitoring and total control of all the enclosures connected is ensured via a single interface. Further, thanks to the on-board processing, the operating status of individual components is easily monitored, enabling diagnostic work to be carried out remotely, thus cutting maintenance costs. All this - in a word - is imode : technology that delivers an allin-one system that is reliable and on which each parameter can be regulated.
