Information Marketing for Lead Generation Information Marketing simply means, taking your expertise and knowledge, and turning it into Information Packages or Products for the purpose of helping people (your potential customers). Your Information can be packaged into Online Posts, Articles & Videos, Website Content, PDF s, Ebooks, Printed Books & Reports, CD s & DVD s etc. Some people sell Information Products for direct profit, but that s a different business model, which we won t be covering in this Blueprint. My goal for you, is to show you what you need to do, to use Information Marketing to generate more Highly Qualified Leads (Potential Customers) than you ever thought possible. Over the next few pages I am also going to share with you, some Real World examples that make up a 1.2.3.X Lead Generation Strategy that you can start to use in your business immediately, which demonstrates the following: 1) How to generate more Leads via people who have not heard of you before (Unaware Targets) - which increased my marketing response by 3000%. 2) How to generate more Leads via people searching online, for the products and services you provide which generates 500,000 per year for one of my clients (at a cost of less that 20,000) and attracted a 43,000 local contract for another client, with a single website tweak, which took only 5 minutes. 3) How to generate more leads via your existing customers which also boosted repeat sales by 244,000 in a single 12- month period. Once Upon A Time In 1988, I left school at the age of 16, to join our family Signmaking business, which was based in Clacton- on- Sea, Essex. For about 15 years, after I joined the business, we didn t have to worry about marketing & advertising, the work just came in via repeat business and word- of- mouth recommendations. We were very good at what we did, and we never let anybody down but then things changed, competition grew and it became much harder to generate enquiries and sales. My Mum & Dad, Uncle & Brother eventually left to start other ventures, whilst I continued to run the Sign business. At that point I decided that the only way I was going to stay ahead of the growing competition was to become great at Marketing and Marketing Study soon become a life- long obsession. Shortly afterwards, I was introduced to the concept of Information Marketing for Lead Generation, which subsequently changed the course of my business and life forever. When I first tested, what I am now calling, the LGX approach (Lead Generation Multiply) in my Signs business, I was astonished at the results, just as my mentor had predicted. I go into more detail about this below, but for now, here s a summary of my first LGX test: I rented an email list of 2000 Schools, who had never heard of my Signs business before (Unaware Targets). Unaware Targets are people who could become your customers, but are unaware of your existence or unaware that they even have a problem you could be helping them solve. I sent a Traditional Sales Style message to 1000 Schools and I sent an LGX Style Message to the other 1000 Schools on the list. My Sales Style message received 3 replies. However, my LGX Style Message received 92 replies, which was an increase in marketing response of over 3000%. Hardly anybody else was doing what I was doing in my industry, and after many more successful tests and campaigns, I felt compelled to help other businesses multiply the response of their marketing and advertising too. I sold my Signs business in 2007 to focus on helping other business owners get the same results, using this Information Marketing concept that I had uncovered. From 1988 to 2011 I d worked with 1000 s of small businesses, providing Signage, Marketing & Advertising Material and Internet Marketing Services, such as Web Design, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) & Email Marketing. However, providing all those services, meant that I wasn t able to help enough businesses, and I needed more time to develop my LGX Information Marketing strategies, techniques and system. 1 - Generate More Leads via Unaware Targets How I Increased My Marketing Response by 3000% As mentioned above, I previously ran a Sign Making Business and as competition grew, I decided to invest in my ability to become great at Marketing. Shortly afterwards I discovered the concept of Information Marketing for Lead Generation, this happened as I was just about to start an Email Campaign to offer my new Safety Signs Range to Schools across the UK. As we d only previously dealt with Schools in the Tendring & Colchester area, the schools we were now targeting were unaware of my business, and they undoubtedly had relationships with other Signmakers, already providing their signs. So I ran a test to see if this Information Marketing approach could work for me, in my local Signs business. I had purchased 2000 email addresses of UK Schools, and I separated them into two lists, each list contained approx. 1000 email addresses. Instead of actually writing the Information Material myself I searched the Internet for something of real interest for schools, but related to the products I was selling. I found a Free Managing Safety in Schools & Colleges PDF (similar to the one in the screenshot supplied) and I sought permission to offer this to the schools on the email list I had purchased. As I was already offering Safety Signs to Schools this 'Free Safety Guide' seemed to compliment my existing products. Note: For long- term success, which includes converting leads into customers, sales and referrals; I recommend you write your own Information Material, instead of using someone else s. My test looked like this 1) Contact 1000 Schools (half the list) as normal, trying to SELL my Safety Signs, like most companies do and like I had always done in the past. 2) Contact 1000 Schools (the other half of the list) at the same time, using the Information Marketing approach and see what happens. (I did not try to sell anything to this half of the list in my first email) 3) Compare the results and make judgement on the Information Marketing for Lead Generation approach. So I sent an email to 1000 schools, just trying to SELL my Safety Signs and I got 3 responses bear in mind, these people had not come looking for my services, I went looking for them, I was contacting them cold (Unaware Targets). I also sent an email to the other 1000 schools, GIVING AWAY the Free Safety Guide PDF, as a way of getting my foot in the door, and opening lines of communication I received a whopping 92 responses - an increase in response of over 3000% SALES message returned 3 Leads GIVING LGX Information Marketing approach returned 92 Leads Again, I just want to point out that these were COLD lists, people from schools that were unaware of my business at that point, and the majority of them were probably not looking for safety signs at that moment. If these people had found my business after specifically looking for Safety Signs, either online or offline, I would expect the overall response rates to be much higher. The purpose of the test was to find out if the INFORMATION MARKETING approach out- performed the SALES approach as a way of generating more LEADS. The answer was YES, by 3000%. This proved one thing to me without doubt, if you offer something for free that is relevant, helpful and valuable to your potential customers, you will get a significant increase in the amount of responses you receive. This is not theory, I am talking from experience and I have used it many times in my business. It always increases response and I urge you to test this in your business as soon as possible, as it could change your whole approach to marketing and advertising. Too many business owners just throw more money and time at their advertising and marketing without even looking at ways to increase the efficiency of the money and time they are spending to bring in enquiries and sales. Once you have your Information Packages created you can use them in all of your marketing and advertising, magazine ads, leaflets, brochures, website, local networking etc. If you had a really compelling, free, no risk way for potential customers to give you their contact details it could increase your marketing response rates by 50%, 100% or even 3000%. You would then have many more people (potential customers) to build trust and relationships with and to ultimately SELL TO, in the coming days, weeks, months & years ahead. Strategy 1: Update Website every day with useful Information Before you start writing this off as a bad idea, because you can t possibly have someone updating your website every day, just consider that Able Canopies employs someone at a cost of less that 20,000 a year to update their website everyday, and in return they generate around 500,000 per year in revenue. Spending 20,000 to get 500,000 in revenue is a No- Brainer for my client. What do you think? Here s how it works: We ve come up with a comprehensive list of things to add to their website on a regular basis; New Product Information, Reviews & Testimonials, Case Studies, Installs, Blogs, Funding Information, News, Updates, Articles, Tips & Advice. Their Super- Duper In- House Website Updater (Christine) who knows very little about what makes websites work, simply follows the guide that I created. Christine gets all the necessary information from other members of her team, like Photos & Notes etc. compiles all that into Blog Posts or Page Content, gets it signed off by her manager, and then adds it to the website. It s a very simple procedure that works. Christine is organized and she makes sure that the Website Updates get done. The core principal behind the Website Update System at Able Canopies is this: Add useful Information to help potential customers and existing customers. Help people find out more, point them in the right direction, give them useful information about products and other relevant information that will be of value to them. Provide information that is related to what your Ideal Customers & Existing Customers do/like, that is also related to the products you sell. For example: Imagine there is funding available, which your potential customers could use to buy your product or service. If you don t tell people about this, how are your potential customers going to find out? If they find out from your Competitors, you may lose the opportunity to do business with them in the first place. You need to be the person educating people, because not only does it make you look like the expert or the local advisor, it also gives you great information to add to your website, which Google loves and your potential customers will love. But don t stop there, take it to the next level If you ONLY say here s some information on how to get funding to buy OUR products you re only helping people who are interested in YOUR products right now. As a result, people who could become Customers, at some point in the Future, may ignore your message completely, and if they slip though the net, they may be lost forever. Instead, it s much better to say something like here is some information on how to get funding to spend on lots of different things you may need and in the information, you give examples of all the things they can buy, including your products. This helps EVERYONE who could benefit from the Funding that is available, which will have more of a profound impact on your business in the long- term. Advising as many people as possible using your Information makes this whole concept even more effective, because you will attract people who want what you offer now, and people who may want what you offer in the future. Adding Information (Content) to your website is also one of the many SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) Processes, but one of the biggest problems with SEO Thinking is that it can be very narrow- minded. You need to Optimise your Website for PEOPLE, not just the Search Engines, and when you add useful Information to your website on a daily basis, it keep PEOPLE happy and if People are Happy, Google and the other search engines will be happy too. If you get the adding lots of information bit right, and you combine it with very careful SEO, it will make it even more effective (SEE ATTACHED SEO REPORT). Even if you don t do any SEO and you just focus on adding useful information to your website on a regular basis, aimed at helping people that could become your customer at some point in the future, you will be rewarded for it, exponentially. Your Search Engine Rankings will increase, your traffic will increase and your conversions will increase. My client relies on their Website & their Free Listings on Google for a large chunk of their sales, and they protect their asset by continually investing in it, by continually adding great Information to help the people they want to do business with. Strategy 2: Offer More Information in Exchange for Prospect Contact Details The second thing my client does to make their Website Marketing so effective comes from the understanding that most people searching online are NOT ready to buy just yet. Most of the people that arrive at your website for the very first time are just looking for information, they are not going to buy from you straight away. Why not? Because most people do not buy products and services from people they have only just met, it simply does not happen. Some people won t even phone you or email you, after visiting your website for the first time, it s too much of a big leap. People need time to get to know you, check you out on Social Media, do more research, like reading Reviews and Testimonials from people who have already done business with you. My client understands that it takes a lot more these days to convince people to call you, email you or buy from you. So, my client loads up their website with lots of useful information, as mentioned above, which in turn makes them look like The Authority on subjects related to the products and services they provide. They offer their Website Visitors (Potential Customers) even MORE great Information, which can be Downloaded, in exchange for a Name & Email Address. This exchange of Useful Information, in return for Contact Details allows my client to build an Email database of 1000 s of LEADS 1000 s of people who were not ready to buy at the moment they arrived at the website, but who could become customers at some point in the future. Some of those become customers very quickly and some of them become customers later, often many months after they first visited the website, and provided their contact details, in exchange for their Free Information. My client has an Automated Email Sequence in place, which keeps the 1000 s of LEADS in- the- loop regarding other Information, which helps to convert a proportion of leads into long- term paying customers and referrers, without having to spend time and money following up with their leads manually. 1) You re not adding enough useful Info to your Site on a regular basis 2) You re focused on Selling and not Giving to your First- Time Website visitors. As a result, you could be missing out on a fortune in future earnings, because not only are you not attracting enough people to your site in the first place, when they do arrive you re only talking to people who are ready to buy now. My client knows the importance of providing useful, valuable Information to help their target audience, and they also know that this approach keeps Google happy too. They pay less that 20,000 per year for their in- house person to update their website on a daily basis, and in return they receive 500,000 per year in revenue, from being FOUND in the Free Listings on Google. The biggest factor that drives your Rankings and Traffic via the Free Listings on Google is to continually add great information to your website. If you want to get a lot more juice out of your Website Traffic then you need to offer your Visitors an Ethical Bribe give them more GREAT Information, in exchange for their Contact Details, so you can continue to build a relationship with them days, weeks, months & years after they found your business. Online Search Part 2: How TTSS attracted a 43,000 contract, after a 5-Minute Website Tweak If you read my SEO Report you ll see there are a few simple tweaks you can make to your website, to make your On- Page SEO more effective. In particular, if you add your Keywords to your Page Titles and to your Website Page Content, it can make a big difference. Here s a simple tweak I made to one of my clients, TTSS, which took less than Five Minutes to do, and resulted in a 43,000 Contract for my client. TTSS were mainly working in the Tendring & Colchester area until they expanded their operation across Essex & Suffolk. After a brief chat I added the Keyword Suffolk to many of their Website s Titles, and to many of their Website s Pages. I didn t even charge my client for this website Tweak, as it only took 5 Minutes of my time. A few weeks later, a School in Suffolk searched online for Fire Alarm Companies in Suffolk and found TTSS s website. An Important Warning About SEO: Google wants you to add great information to your website to help your customers, and if you want to get Leads & Customers via Google, you have to keep Google happy. If you Label your Web Pages & Content in the right way (On- Page SEO) it makes it easier for Google to establish what your Website & Information is all about, so it can deliver your website to the right people. Ultimately, you re making it easier for your potential customers to find your website, when they are looking for a business like yours. The opposite to this, is NOT Labeling your website/content correctly, which makes it HARDER for your potential customers to find you. It s like opening up a shop on the World s Busiest Street, blanking out all the Windows and NOT having Signs. I don t make Signs anymore, so I can t help you with that problem but I can help you get your Website Labeled correctly, to make it easier for people who are looking for the products and services you provide (It s in My SEO Report). Google also wants you to build your brand online, so it can see that real people value what you do as a business. But as soon as you start doing ANYTHING that is NOT Natural or Organic you run the risk of being penalised, which could result in your Website being removed from Google search. For example: Buying cheap articles that do not help people & adding that information to your website, manipulating SEO, buying links or doing stuff that does not benefit website users is all bad news. If you do any of that stuff and you rely on your website to put money in your pocket, be prepared for sleepless nights and a massive headache when Google Catches up on you. Instead, ask yourself What Would Google Do? Put your Website visitors first and add more useful information to your website to help your Potential Customers & Existing Customers than anybody else on earth, related to their interests and related to what you sell. You won t have to worry about being SLAPPED by Google, and just like my Main Client, the only marketing problem you may face, is how to deal with ALL the enquiries, that come from 1000 s of website visitors, every single month. 3 - Generate More Leads via Existing Customers How my client generates more leads via their existing customers, which also boosted repeat sales by 244,000 in 12 months Once you re in the habit of adding useful Information to your Website, this Lead Generation Strategy is very easy to follow, and consists of just 2 steps: 1) Put all your Customers on an Email List, using Mailchimp (or similar) 2) Send them an email once a month, including the following: a. A Link to the Useful Info added to your website for last 30 days b. Your latest Offers, News & Product Updates c. Ask them to recommend you to people they know It s that simple! IMPORTANT TIP: Don t make your monthly Emails look like Salesy Newsletters you know the ones, with lots of pictures and discounts they will get ignored by most of the people you send them too. Your Monthly emails to your Existing Customers must look like Personal Communications, just like you would send to a friend. You wouldn t send a lots of pictures and offers to your Friend, and if you want your emails to be read, don t send those types of emails to your Customers. This simple process of keeping your customers in- the- loop as I have mentioned above, will help you generate more Leads and as you know probably know, Leads that are introduced to you via your existing happy customers are much easier to convert into new business. However, I have something a lot more exciting to show you and I am sure you re going to be astonished by what I am about to share. When my client followed this Email Strategy religiously for 12- Months, (which only took a few hours to implement) not only did they increase the amount of Word- of- Mouth recommendations they received, they also experienced an increase in Repeat Sales from their Existing Customers of 244,000. Here s why this simple Customer Communication Strategy is so effective During my time working with 1000's of small business owners, and carrying out extensive testing and measuring over the last few years, I realised there is an enormous 'untapped' marketing opportunity in almost every single small business. My Clients 12- Month Ongoing Customer Communication Test In the 12- month period prior to rolling out this Monthly Email Test, Able Canopies received approx. 220,000 in repeat business, without pro- actively keeping in contact with their existing customers, the work just came in. Maybe this happens in your business, maybe a certain amount of your customers just keep coming back, without you doing anything other than a great job. Having a Semi- Automated System (SAS) makes it more effective and cheaper to run too, as the right Software Integrations make the Lead Nurturing Process more reliable and consistent, and many parts of this can happen without human intervention, once it s set up and running. I don t want to put you off, but please understand this very important point. Complicated marketing systems not only make your Lead Generation & Customer Acquisition much easier and more effective, it also puts you light- years ahead of your competitors. Your competitors will not be able to keep up with what you are able to achieve, when it comes to generating leads, enquiries, customers, sales and word- of- mouth recommendations. The long- game is about putting a marketing system to work in your business, that enables you to raise your prices, be more selective about who you want to work with and give you more time freedom, financial freedom and peace of mind freedom too.
