Type of messages 17 different type of messages may be used on Navtex. A, B and D in addition to L are compulsary on the Navtex Receiver. If f.ex disturbances GPS Equipment J should be used. But do the ships listen to this? What about Z messages? A = Navigational warnings B = Meteorological warnings C = Icewarnings D = SAR E = weatherforecast J = SATNAV msg L = additional navigational warnings Z = no traffic 8

Contract with Navco Navco produces Coastal warnings. Navigational warnings are divided into two different parts: Warnings that require a DSC alarm Warnings that do not require a DSC alarm. Navco divides the warnings and marks all navigational warnings that require a DSC alert. 9

Navigational warnings via radiotelephone When a Coastradiostation receives a Navigational warning (A): The warning is, when received, announced on 2182 khz and Channel 16 and thereafter read on working channel. There is no announcement on 2182 khz in advance of scheduled transmission. DSC alarm is sent in advance of announcement, based on category. On MF geographical area is always defined. Local Warnings are not transmitted on Navtex, but are announced on channel 16 and read on working channels. 10

ICE ACCRETION Ice accretion on ships are transmitted as B warnings. ( Navtex Manual 11.2.2 point 4. ) 11
