msxfax xp for Microsoft Exchange Server 4 1 Software Release Notice 7.6 1.1 Availability Version 7.6 released March 2007. 1.2 Summary of enhancements in version 7.6 BNS Group is committed to ongoing enhancements of msxfax XP for Microsoft Exchange Server. BNS Group has been developing and selling Microsoft based fax solutions since 1990. BNS have been testing each new release with all betas of Office 2007 and Exchange 2007. The following is a summary of changes and enhancements implemented in version 7.6: msxfax 7.6.0 b329 RTM 27th Feb 2007 Fix a bug where inbound faxes from a fax machine with a standard resolution of 100 x 200 would get printed intact but half size. The Leadtools SDK was performing an auto scale on the resolution of the tif file. Fixed the problem by modifying the resolution of the print job tif file to 200 x 200 res. The original tif is left intact. Updated : msximage.dll, msxfaxinrx.exe, msxfaxprint.exe, msxfaxprintspool.exe Fixed a bug where if a print job ini or associated tif file was corrupt the job would hold up the rest of the print job queue. The resolution is to attempt to process the job and then delete the job and tif always so other jobs can continue. Fix bug where a large document say 300+ pages is being attempted to be faxed, the render processing would be terminated by the Attendant because the checkpoint timer for msxfaxout was not being updated during the tif creation in the msximage.dll.

msxfax xp for Microsoft Exchange Server 5 Added a configuration Option in the Console to set the maximum size of an inbound fax tif file. This should be aligned with the Exchange Message size limit. This option prevents a deadlock situation where an inbound fax is to large to be accepted by Exchange. It is held on the Fax server an a partial message is sent to the recipient indicating its location on the Fax Server and requesting the user to contact the Administrator. Added an option that strips any underscores in a recipient name that is specified via domain addressing. This option is turned on by default but can be turned off by setting the msxfax registry key RemoveUnderScore to 0. Fixed bug where randomly some inbound faxes are not printed to the specified printer. Fixed bug where a mime file from Exchange is sometimes determined as corrupt but is really due to the fax server being busy. A retry of this file will occur upto 5 times before being rejected as corrupt. Local Database now always searched by default for inbound. Allow a Fax Server with no fax cards to be installed as a Render Server only if a msxfax license of greater than 4 channels is purchased. The msxsetup by default will look for the eicon drivers to be installed. To install msxfax without the drivers create a file called C:\msxrender Support Email Protective Marking standards compliance for Australian Government. Do not block 50+ recipients from being sent to in a single fax. Now there is no limit because of Microsoft Office Document Image writer (MODI) driver. Drop MAAD/R20 tool from setup. Supplied a new CSV to ADR utility for use with Broadcasts. msxfax Console OutQ count now includes Faxes transmitting and waiting for a free line. msxfax Console ProcessQ count now includes Faxes being rendered by Enotify and msxfaxout and waiting to be processed by converter. Certified with SoftIP v2.0 and Alcatel OMNIPCX Office Rel 5. (Fax over IP FOIP T.38 standards compliance) Support a special record in the Local Database when AD is disabled and a user record is created with an email address of 'allusers@domain' e.g allusers@test.com, outbound fax requests from any user in test.com will be allowed to send a fax. Fix bug where if an invalid fax number is specified in a list using domain addressing then no results is returned. Support Exchange 2007 (tested on beta 1 and beta 2) Support Office 2007 (tested on beta 1) Fix bug where on a rare occasion a tif file associated with an outbound fax gets lost. The fax now rejected back to the user rather than holding up a device as in use. Free Disk Space monitoring builtin to msxfax Attendant. See Attendant Configuration. msxfax now uses the Microsoft Office Document Imaging (MODI) Writer printer driver which is installed by default with Office 2003. MODI is not a kernel mode

msxfax xp for Microsoft Exchange Server 6 printer driver and produces excellent quality TIF output. There are specific settings required please refer to the msxfax manual. No longer uses the old APF Printer driver. After upgrading you can delete this printer icon. Support for Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 2. This requires the msxfax Messenger Service to logon as the msxfax user account. The msxfax user account must have the logon as a service right. This is documented in the manual. Tested with Eicon SoftIP v2 in a Lab facility with 2 Fax Servers back to back with 30 lines Enhancements for Suncorp regarding domain name cover sheet selection.

msxfax xp for Microsoft Exchange Server 7 1.3 Permissions for msxfax account All msxfax service accounts run in the context of local system except for the msxfax XP Print Service and now the msxfax messenger Service. msxfax XP Print service must have permissions to printers in the enterprise. If you wish to support inbound printing you must set the service account login name after msxfax XP has been installed. msxfax Messenger Service version 7.6 also requires a Service account for use with Office 2003 SP2 (Microsoft security changes require authenticated services which interact with Office 2003 SP2). 1.4 Permissions for a member fax server BNS recommends installation of msxfax on a Windows 2003 member server in the same domain as Microsoft Exchange Server. If you intend to install msxfax on a member server, please set the permissions to allow the msxfax Messenger Service to access the registry and file system as follows: Logon to Windows as an Administrator. Select Start, Administrative Tools Select Computer Management

msxfax xp for Microsoft Exchange Server 8 Expand Local Users and Groups Open the Groups folder Double click on Administrators Group Add the msxfax service account The above action allows the msxfax service account which is just a standard user in the domain (Domain Users) to have full permissions to the fax server registry and file system. Click OK.

msxfax xp for Microsoft Exchange Server 9 1.5 Permissions required when installing msxfax on a Domain Controller BNS recommends installation of msxfax on a Windows 2003 member server in the same domain as Microsoft Exchange Server. However, if you have to install msxfax on a domain controller eg: Small Business Server, you should provide sufficient permissions to allow the msxfax service account full access to the registry and file system. The recommended way is to add the account to the Administrators Group in Active Directory.

msxfax xp for Microsoft Exchange Server 10 1.6 Upgrade note - Configure the Microsoft Office Document Image writer printer Before you upgrade your fax server please refer to section 5.6 of msxfax installation and administration guide version 7.6. 1.7 After your upgrade make sure you perform the following (service account permission and password) After the system reboots, select administrative tools, services Scroll down to the msxfax messenger service Set the password for the service Click ok. If this is the first time you have done this the system will automatically assign the logon as a service right. Click ok.

msxfax xp for Microsoft Exchange Server 11 Do the same for the msxfax Print Service.
