Key Features
Dashboard for an at-a-glance view of the environment Quick overview of health, performance, capacity, usage and forecast details Customizable dashboard based on user persona Summary of various virtualized resources reaching capacity in the next few days Highlights critical & major alerts pertaining to hosts, virtual machines and datastores Views for top virtual machines and datastores by IO latency and top datastores by free space Quick and easy navigation with on-demand drilldown capabilities 6
Intuitive views of cloud and virtualized environments Tree-map to gain visibility Tree-map helps to analyze patterns of interesting behavior, hot spots Provides the ability to identify patterns of problems, across elements of similar type Ordered listing of elements based on various factors such as # of CPU cores or size of memory for hosts, or capacity for storage Grouping and filtering to view hierarchy as well as interesting subset Switch between hosts, VM, storage and other views easily via a navigation dashboard 7
Deep insight into your virtual and cloud environments Performance workbench Explorer view of the environment Visualize performance of the entities and do triage Navigate on a time-range Assess problems that have occurred in the past Compare systems using performance counters 8
Alerting overview Real-time alerting system identifies resource saturation and bottlenecks Actionable alert message with symptom, possible cause & recommendations Out of the box zero configuration, no monitoring policies Sensitivity levels to tune reactiveness of the alerting system Alert inbox with filtering & search capability Context relevant links for reports, graphs to aid investigation 9
Optimization, placement & forecast Capacity Optimize Trend Current capacity Usage and allocation Right size workloads Improve performance & efficiency Trend future capacity demands Days to capacity projections 10
Capacity planning through modelling and analysis Helps simulate future resource utilization and observe impact on capacity Simulate multiple actions for different periods in future Add VMs Clone VMs Delete hosts Provides shortfall details if capacity cannot meet the requirements Shows comparison of original forecast vs. forecast with the new requirements Only for VMware vsphere 11
Real time guest OS drilldown Detect overloads Assess workloads Identify cause Noisy VM impacts neighborhood VMs VM cannot serve workload needs or workload itself has issues Detect resource greedy workload / application / subsystem Drilldown to process level performance and entitlement data Real-time 1 second level analysis Determine cause of VM overload Hypervisor data Guest VM Workloads: Advanced Performance Troubleshooting 12
Understand the trends and operational summary Reports and dashboards Inventory report for virtualized elements Trends of usage, activity, utilization of different metrics Top and bottom Utilization of different metrics Hourly, daily, weekly reports in different formats Export and email reports 13
vpv in Business Service Management vpv can be embedded in BSM A MyBSM page needs to be created using the vpv URL If vpv is not configured with LDAP authentication, no other changes needed If vpv is configured with LDAP authentication, copy the Token Creation Key from BSM UI and set it in the vpv admin UI for vpv to trust the BSM setup vpv within BSM would be a self-contained dashboard with cross launch graph/report options within the page 14
Integrate Cloud Service Automation with vpv As a CSA user Seamless user experience Single sign-on integration between vpv and CSA Obtain rich set of performance metrics to triage and troubleshoot problems Discover capacity and usage of the resources See forecast trends for future planning Improve virtual machine performance with right-sizing recommendations 15
