C. W. CONN, SR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION AND APPLICATION PROCEDURE The C. W. Conn, Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund in the College of Business of Lamar University was established in loving memory of the founder of Conn Appliances, Inc., by his son C. W. Conn, Jr. and the employees of Conn Appliances. C. W. Conn, Sr. Memorial Scholarships are not intended to cover the full cost of college or university education, but will serve to pay a portion of the cost, thus lessening the financial burden on parents and enabling the College of Business of Lamar University to attract quality students who desire to pursue a career in the field of business. Recipients of scholarships will receive up to $500 per semester, depending on funding, for a maximum of eight semesters. Continuation of scholarships from semester to semester will depend upon the recipient providing documentation of a grade point average of 3.00 or above on 12 or more hours. No funds will be provided for summer sessions. C. W. Conn, Sr. Memorial Scholarship will be awarded by a committee composed of the Dean of the College of Business of Lamar University and the Scholarship Committee. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application soon after the deadline for receiving applications. WHO IS ELIGIBLE: 1. Applicant must be an entering freshman seeking a four-year degree in the College of Business. Special consideration will be given to applicants who are interested in the field of marketing as a career. 2. Applicant must have scored at least 900 on SAT or 20 on ACT. 3. Applicant must have leadership qualities, demonstrated scholarship, integrity and sound character traits. HOW TO APPLY: 1. You should have received a complete application packet (this application procedure sheet, an application form, and three reference letter forms) from your school, by January 11, 2013. Complete the application form; you may also include a cover letter and/or resume to stress points in your favor. A copy of your transcript must also accompany your packet. 2. Ask each of three character references to write a letter of reference, using the attached form (type your name on each form first). Your character references should be persons who know you well enough to comment on your good character. Comments on your seriousness of purpose or your interest in a business career are also welcome. Teachers, ministers, neighbors, or family friends are good references to consider. The reference letter should be enclosed in a sealed envelope, signed across the back and flap, and returned to you. You should then include all three letters in their sealed envelopes, in your application packet. 3. The entire application packet (application form, a copy of your transcript, three sealed reference letters, and a cover letter or resume if applicable) should be sent to the following address by the deadline date of February 8, 2013.
