InSAT VSAT Satellite Solutions

InSAT - VSAT Satellite Solutions 1

System Intermatica expands its range of satellite telecommunications services thanks to new InSAT applications: not only connectivity to MSS (Mobile Satellite Services) but also to VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) solutions for fixed or semi-fixed installations. For these services, Intermatica has selected a new primary partner, Avanti Communications PLC, becoming its VNO (Virtual Network Operator) for Italy. Through this partnership, Intermatica is now in the position of offering new high-performance satellite broadband solutions, either standard or tailored to Customer needs. Intermatica offers an unrivalled service on the Italian market by guaranteeing high quality combined to utmost flexibility. Avanti Communications is a company listed on the London Stock Exchange that owns a strongly expanding satellite network currently composed of two geostationary satellites, Hylas 1 and Hylas 2. Over the upcoming two years, two more satellites, co-developed with ESA, the European Space Agency, will be launched into orbit: in 2016 Hylas 3, the so-called intelligent satellite, which provides the possibility of allocating coverage areas according to market needs, enhancing services in some areas rather than in others, depending on which has greater bandwidth demands; in 2017 Hylas 4 will be launched to increase the coverage over African continent. InSAT solutions are ideal to meet the ever-increasing demand for broadband connectivity, including in the most remote areas not covered with conventional networks. Avanti s satellite network covers all of Italy as well as most of Europe, some of the Mediterranean countries and several key countries in Africa and in the Middle East. The system is the solution to bridge Italy s digital divide without the need to make sizable investments and, most of all, very quickly, even in the most remote areas. Avanti s Internet connection service requires nothing else but the installation of a small-sized dish antenna, similar to those used for satellite TV, and a modem, giving quick and easy access to the Internet services. Avanti s network envisages several ground stations (gateways) interconnected between them. The primary gateway for Italy is Goonhilly, in the United Kingdom, which is connected via fibre optics to London s Telehouse East and is rebound on a secondary gateway. At customers request, it is possible to enable a direct connection to Avanti s networks also through the telehouse of Global Switch One (London), AMX (Amsterdam), Interxion (Frankfurt) and Netscalibur (Milan). 3

Services Intermatica s InSAT solutions are the best option in order to meet the ever-growing demand for broadband and VoIP connectivity in even the most remote areas, where data services like ADSL, 3G and LTE are not available. Thanks to its small-size 74 cm diameter antennas with transmission power of only a few watts, InSAT solutions are easy to install and enable high-performance connections(with high QoS, reliability and security) between stations at a distance of even thousands of kilometres, at competitive costs comparable to those of conventional fixed or mobile network solutions. Internet connection VoIP voice communications Video streaming Access to intranet/extranet networks IP trunking ATM-POS M2M services Video-surveillance Emergency solutions Back-up solutions Video-broadcasting Remote monitoring 5 InSAT services are highly customisable, modular and scalable and can be tailored to the needs of even the most demanding Customers requiring services independently from terrestrial networks.

Banda Ka InSAT offers new Avanti Ka Band services providing greater high-quality transmission capacity compared to other options, lower costs and inexpensive terminals with smaller-sized antennas. Ka Band ground coverage is completely different from that of Ku Band satellites: a Ka Band satellite transmits a highpower signal onto a restricted geographic area called spot-beam while Ku Band satellites cover a larger geographical area but with less power. This difference entails significant economic savings compared to traditional satellites. Avanti solutions envisage the use of a 74cm diameter antenna in most of the coverage area and a transmission power of only a few Watts. They are easy to use and install and enable high-performance connections (with a high QoS, high reliability and confidentiality) at competitive costs, in most cases lower than the classical fixed or mobile solutions. The solutions offered are delivered through Hylas 1 and 2 satellites and provide consistently active and stable connectivity, assuring all the advantages of TCP/IP communications. 6

InSAT can bridge the Digital Divide The InSAT service does not require a telephone connection and is completely independent from an ADSL network, which results in the opportunity to deliver broadband services in any part of Italy, including the areas suffering from Digital Divide. The areas under Digital Divide, meaning thereby that they are not connected, are not only located in remote rural areas but also in large metropolitan areas that either lack internet connections or frequently suffer from throughput saturation. Through broadband satellites, Avanti can bridge the Digital Divide thanks to a satellite Internet service speed of up to 15 Mbps. Plus QUALITY Avanti s Ka Band uses smaller spot-beams than those used in Ku Band coverage, this providing them all with high power connections and assuring a higher quality service compared to traditional VSAT solutions. NETWORK ARCHITECTURE In the Avanti network, all the spot-beams of a single Country are connected to the same ground station, this minimising service complexity. UNIFORM COVERAGE RELIABILITY Unlike other satellite solutions, Avanti s ground network uses redundant stations in order to guarantee trafficswitching also during periods of intense rainfall or while the main ground station is being serviced, this guaranteeing high levels of availability. EASE OF USE AND CONVENIENCE The hardware architecture is offered at a discounted price and is easy to install. SCALABILITY 7 All the countries serviced by Hylas satellites are covered 100%, without leaving holes, this guaranteeing a high and uniform performance level. InSAT solutions can be customised to Customer needs and can be upgraded to enhance service efficiency in only a couple of minutes.

Quality and Flexibility InSAT offers a variety of solutions ranging from standard to customised solutions: it is possible to design convenient solutions Tailored to Customer needs. As Intermatica is a Virtual Network Operator of Avanti, it is enabled to modify any parameter: download and/or upload speed and service-sharing and GigaByte (GB/Month) storage sharing, thus optimising service scalability and flexibility. Unlike other VSAT connection systems, InSat provides effective minimum guaranteed bandwidth values for connection speeds at peak-time Internet traffic. The effective values refer to Internet connection speeds and not to on-air services like VoIP or VPN, which are much faster than the Web network. Standard solutions are the following: ATM-POS: at the service of Companies needing a reliable, economical and secure connection for POS and ATM banking operations. 8 Business Continuity: offers a back-up connection in case the conventional connection fails. InSAT applies a flat monthly rate including 2 GBs to keep the system always on. Business Professional and Top Professional: these are dedicated to Companies requiring a satellite connection in areas where it is impossible to access the conventional network. These are highly performing services that do not apply traffic usage limits*. Video surveillance: this refers to a specially designed video surveillance system with an upload speed that is particularly effective in this type of use. All solutions offered by InSAT include a static IP address from which to access and remotely monitor one s satellite connection at any point in time. *In order to guarantee every Customer maximum performance at the time of use, InSAT services provide a specific network optimization and monitoring system which limits download/upload speed in case of traffic usage overuse.

Terminal HUGHES HN9260 The Hughes HN9260 modem is a terminal designed to meet the requirements of Internet broadband applications for a wide range of Customers both private, professionals and small enterprises. This highly versatile modem delivers high performance in terms of bandwidth and, depending on the type of service and usage area, is combined with antennas whose diameter can range from 74 to 120 cm. In Italy 74 cm diameter antennas are used in most installations. The Hughes HN9260 modem supports On-Demand Streaming: once enabled, it can enhance the performance of video and VoIP applications based on SIP and H.323 protocols. At customers request, they can be provided with an HN 9460 modem fitted with two Ethernet ports that can connect a larger number of computers than with the HN9260 modem.
