502B:1 STUDENT-ATHLETES: ADMISSIONS The Department of Athletics adheres to the University's admission policy, as defined in the current LSU General Catalog. Entering freshmen and transfer student-athletes must meet the admission requirements of Louisiana State University, as well as the eligibility requirements of the SEC and the NCAA. (See Policy 502C, Student-Athletes: Eligibility, in this Manual for specific NCAA initial eligibility requirements.) See also appendix 502B-1. Admission may be granted under certain unusual circumstances, even when all stated requirements are not met. In each case, consideration is given to the following: Any unique contribution the University may make to an applicant's educational and/or career interests; Extraordinary talents, achievements, or the creative ability of the applicant; Age group or ethnic background of the applicant which would compliment LSU's diverse student population; or Other extenuating circumstances meriting special consideration. Entrance Requirements New freshmen must have graduated from approved high schools and have completed a total of 18 high school units in the categories listed below: English Composition and Literature - 4 units, including English I, English II, English III and English IV; College Preparatory Mathematics - 3 units, including Algebra I and II, and one additional unit consisting of courses such as Geometry, Trigonometry, Advanced Mathematics or Calculus; Natural Sciences - 3 units, including Biology, Chemistry and Physics; Social Studies - 3 units, including one unit in American History, one unit in World History, World Geography or History of Western Civilization, and one unit consisting of courses such as Civics, Free Enterprise, Economics, Sociology, Psychology and American Government;

502B:2 Foreign Languages - 2 units in a single language; Computer Studies - 1/2 unit in Computer Science, Computer Literacy; and Additional Courses - 2 ½ units from the above categories and/or advanced courses in the visual and performing arts. To increase the likelihood of being accepted, applicants are encouraged to complete at least 18 units of college prep courses and achieve an: - Academic gpa of > 3.0 and 18 units listed in above and SAT 1030/ACT 22, or Rank in top 15 percent of high school graduating class, OR - 17 units and SAT 1090/ACT 24 and 3.0 gpa; or SAT 1060/ACT 23 and 3.2 gpa; or SAT 1030/ACT 22 and 3.5 gpa; or 3.0 gpa and rank in top 10 percent of graduating class. Beginning with the Fall 2006 semester, applicants will be required to submit an SAT or ACT writing score.

502B:3 Any student who will complete high school has the right to apply for admission, even if he/she will not have met all the unit requirements. A positive decision may be made in such a case if there is sufficiently favorable evidence with respect to the quality of academic preparation and ability of the applicant to succeed in a degree program. High school grades, ACT or SAT scores, and special talents are considered. A student-athlete who is awarded an athletic grant-in-aid may be admitted if he/she meets the NCAA's initial eligibility requirements. Undergraduate admissions follows a guideline chart established by the Admissions Standards & Honors Committee. Transfer Students An undergraduate student with a satisfactory record from an accredited college or university is eligible to apply to LSU as a transfer student. A student desiring such admission should submit an application and transcript as early as possible during the semester or term preceding the date admission is desired. Eligibility for admission cannot be finally determined until the application and a complete, official transcript from each college or university attended have been received. The minimum grade point average requirements on total semester hours of college-level credit attempted is as follows: Students with previous college or university work from regionally accredited institutions may be considered for admission if they have earned 30 hours of transferable degree credit, an overall 2.50 gpa or better on all college work attempted, including a college-level course in English and in mathematics (above remedial). Transfer applicants who have earned fewer than 30 hours of college-level work (above remedial) must also meet the requirements for freshman admission. Applicants who have earned more than 60 semester hours of college level work must also be accepted by their intended senior college. For information related to NCAA initial eligibility requirements for transfer studentathletes, see Policy 502C, Student-Athletes: Eligibility, in this Manual.

502B:4 Application Procedures Applicants may apply for admission online at www.lsu.edu. Application deadlines are April 15 for fall semester, December 1 for the spring semester, October 1 for persons requiring an I-20, April 15 for the summer term. LSU enforces the application deadline for all undergraduate applications. In addition, all credential (transcripts, test scores, etc.) for fall applicants must be in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by July 1 to be reviewed for fall admission. Applications submitted after the published deadline are considered on an appeal basis only and must be accompanied by a $55 nonrefundable fee ($40 application fee and $15 late fee.) Approval of these appeals is not guaranteed. If a late application is accepted, the application will be assessed a late application fee. The Director for Student Services serves as Departmental liaison with the Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions and monitors the admissions process of each student-athlete to ensure adherence to University, SEC and NCAA rules and regulations. However, the Recruiting Coordinator, or the Head Coach of the sport, is responsible for ensuring that a prospective student-athlete submits the required documents for admission directly to the University's Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The prospective student-athlete must: 1. Complete an application for undergraduate admission and submit it along with the $40 application fee. 2. Initiate requests to all secondary and post-secondary educational institutions in which the student matriculated for official transcripts to be forwarded directly to Undergraduate Admissions. 3. Initiate a request for ACT or SAT test scores to be transmitted directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by the College Entrance Examination Board. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions distributes a weekly Admissions Status Report on all prospective student-athletes to the Director for Student Services and the Director of Academic Center for Athletes. The Director for Student Services distributes a copy of the Admissions Status Report to each Head Coach and/or the Recruiting Coordinator. The Academic Center for Athletes will contact all signees to insure timely submission of all documents required for admission and certification.

502B:6 The Director for Student Services maintains files on all applicants. Those approved for admission are maintained as "Active Student-Athletes," and those denied are retained as historical data. Records of applicants who are being considered for admission are held in an "Admission Pending" file until a final determination is made by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. LSU 1/2006
