Section12 The Bachelor s degree programme International and European Law Article 44 Applicability This programme-specific part of the Teaching and Examination Regulation for Bachelor s degree programmes describes the programme-specific information for the Bachelor s degree programme International and European Law and is complementary to the general part of the Teaching and Examination Regulation for Bachelor s degree programmes. Article 45 Format and examination regulation The specifics with regard to format and assessment for the course units are described in the course descriptions (available in Ocasys and in the online Study and Information Guide) insofar as this Teaching and Examination Regulation does not explicitly indicates otherwise. Article 46 Language of the Bachelor s degree programme The Bachelor s degree programme is offered in English. Article 46a Form of the Bachelor s degree programme The Bachelor s degree programme is offered in full-time mode. Article 47 Aim of the Bachelor s degree programme International and European Law Learning outcomes knowledge and understanding The learning outcomes of the bachelor s degree programme International and European Law in the field of knowledge and understanding are: A1. knowledge of and understanding of the material and procedural aspects of all legal disciplines and the functioning of a legal system; A2. knowledge and understanding of international and European law, both as separate legal fields and in relation to and as components of national law; A3. familiarity with foundations of law and notion of the specific nature of law practice; A4. understanding in the problems that occur in the development of law; A5. knowledge of and understanding in the broader (international) context in which international and European law functions. Learning outcomes skills and attitude The learning outcomes of the bachelor s degree programme International and European Law in the field of skills and attitude are: 2

B1. the ability to assess the legal, social, economic, political and legal theoretical aspects of an issue in terms of their mutual relationships and to consider these critically B2. control of the information and communication technology relevant for the legal discipline; B3. the ability to clearly formulate answers to legal questions, both orally and in a written form; B4. the ability to collect, assess and apply relevant legislation, jurisprudence and literature which are needed to solve a legal issue; B5. the ability to communicate on an academic level in English. Final attainment level study orientation and careers guidance The learning outcomes of the bachelor s degree programme International and European Law in the field of study orientation and careers guidance are: C1. knowledge and understanding in the career perspective; C2. the ability to make informed decisions with regard to the next stage of studies in which a higher level is required. Section 13 The propaedeutic phase Article 48 The propaedeutic phase 48.1 The propaedeutic phase of the English-taught Bachelor s degree programme International and European Law comprises the following course units, with the following study loads and contact hours: ECTS HC WG TT Oth 1. Article 49 Propaedeutic practical The following course units of the propaedeutic examination, as mentioned in article 48, consist of a practical in the format prescribed and of the size mentioned. 1. Law and legal skills: the Dutch example 10 ECTS 2. English Language 5 ECTS 3. English Language and Academic Skills 5 ECTS Article 50 Format and examination regulation The specifics with regard to format and assessment for the course units mentioned in article 48 and 49 are described in the course descriptions (available in Ocasys and in the online Study and Information Guide) as well as, if applicable, in which way bonus points can be earned through midterm assessment. These bonus points can be part of the final assessment of the course unit, in which case article 14 of the general part of the TER is applicable. Section 14 The post-propaedeutic phase Article 51 The post-propaedeutic phase Direct entry to the post-propaedeutic phase of the Bachelor s degree programme in International and European Law is only granted to students with a propaedeutic certificate in International and European Law and to students with a propaedeutic certificate in International and European Law English stream that have started this particular programme in the academic year 2012-2013 or earlier. Article 52 The course unit of the post-propaedeutic phase 52.1 The post-propaedeutic phase of the Bachelor programme International and European Law comprises the following course units, with the following study loads: 1. European Union Law 10 ECTS 2. Private Law 2 5 ECTS 3. Public International Law 10 ECTS 4. Introduction to Political Science 5 ECTS 5. Administrative Law 10 ECTS 6. Research seminar European Law 5 ECTS 7. Research seminar International Law 5 ECTS 8. General Economics 5 ECTS 9. Civil Procedural Law 5 ECTS 10. Semester abroad 30 ECTS 11. Interdisciplinary Research Colloquium* 10 ECTS 4

12. Theory of International Relations 5 ECTS 13. Decision-making Processes in the European Union 5 ECTS 14. Economics of International Trade and International Finance 10 ECTS Total 120 ECTS * The Interdisciplinary Research Colloquium is described in article 53 (Bachelor-concluding course unit) 52.2 The complete list of courses (both courses within the Faculty of Law and without the Faculty of Law if examined at a research university) needs to be approved by the Board of Examiners in advance. The Board of Examiners also determines the number of ECTS to be awarded and reserves the right to lower the number of ECTS awarded if the courses overlaps the content of another course within the programme. 52.3 For course units mentioned in Article 52.1 the specifics with regard to format and assessment for these course units are described in the course descriptions (available in Ocasys and in the online Study and Information Guide) as well as, if applicable, in which way bonus points can be earned through mid-term assessment. Article 52a Post-propaedeutic practicals/seminars The following course units of the post-propaedeutic examination, as mentioned in article 52.1, consist of a practical in the format prescribed and of the size mentioned. 1. English Language and Academic Skills (5 ECTS) Article 53 The Bachelor-concluding course unit 53.1 The Bachelor s phase of the Bachelor programme International and European Law will be concluded with the Interdisciplinary Research Colloquium module. 53.2 Students can take this module (by registering) if they, on 1 December of the relevant academic year, have earned at least 110 ECTS of the compulsory course units of the Bachelor s degree programme in International and European Law, including all propaedeutic course units. Registration for the Interdisciplinary Research Colloquium is binding. 53.3 Students choose their own paper topic within the field of international law, European law or international relations. The paper must then be presented and defended to an audience of fellow students in English. 5

Article 54 Optional (extracurricular) course units 54.1 The Bachelor s degree programme International and European Law does not have any optional courses, except for the courses chosen during the semester abroad. 54.2 Student may choose however, with the approval of the Board of Examiners, one or more course units as extracurricular course units. Optional courses at M4-level are accessible for 6

bachelor students that have completed their legal research university propaedeuse. If this M4-course is used as an optional course during the bachelor s degree programme the ECTS cannot count towards a master s degree programme. For the awarded level of course please check OCASYS. 54.4 In special cases the Board of Examiners can allow one or more parts of other bachelor s or master s degree programmes to be chosen. 54.5 A request for approval of an optional module/optional course unit must be submitted to the Board of Examiners through Progresswwww by the student at least three months before he or she wishes to register for the module in question. 54.6 A decision to deny approval by the Board of Examiners will be supported with reasons. 54.7 The Board of Examiners will make its decision within six weeks of receipt of the request, except during University holidays. The Board of Examiners may postpone its decision for a maximum of fourteen days. The students must be notified of such a postponement before the end of the term referred to in the first sentence of this article. 54.8 The student will be informed of the decision without delay. 7
