Guiao Convention Center here last December 10. An incident report made by outgoing PPC president Eric Jimenez said Supt. Jean Fajardo shouted at them and prevented them from entering the convention center, even after politely introducing themselves as members of the PPC. Wala akong pakialam kung media kayo (I don t care even if you are from the media ), Fajardo reportedly shouted. Jimenez said Fajardo even tried to shove them away. Jimenez was with photojournalist Jojo Due at the time of the incident to confer the Darling of the Press award. Members of the press, led by the PPC, have earlier chosen the Darling of the Press for the traditional annual award given by the media at the coronation night. But instead of listening to our request, she arrogantly shouted at us and even tried to shove us away, Jimenez complained. Reached for comment, Fajardo said the situation when Jimenez and Due came was extremely dif- ficult as the people rushed inside the BZGCC. In fact, the glass panel of the building was destroyed due to never-ending jostling. We advised the people including media and even organizers to go straight to the upper bleachers because the lower area is already jampacked, said Fajardo, adding her intention was to prevent injuries among the spectators. She said the crowd was so unruly and eager to go near Alden Richards that they almost lost control of the situation. Meanwhile, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines-Pampanga Chapter (NUJP-Pampanga) has joined the PPC in condemning the arrogant behavior of Fajardo. NUJP-Pampanga said Fajardo should be more circumspect in dealing with the media especially in official functions. Her arrogant behavior should not be tolerated before it could escalate into another condemnable incident towards the press, the media union The Metro Angeles Journalists Association, Inc. (MAJAI) also joined in condemning Fajardo. MAJAI president Jay Pelayo IV said Fajardo s arrogant behavior should be nipped in the bud. Pelayo said there is no room for unprofessional policemen or policewomen in a progressive society like this capital city which prides itself as The Habitat of Human Excellence. december 18-20, 2015 Headline Gitnang Luzon BUSINESS 3 Maintenance sailors exchange ideas aboard USS Emory S. Land By Dante M. Salvana MANILA Sailors from the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) gave a presentation on the SUBSAFE submarine quality assurance program and maintenance life cycle planning to sailors from the Philippine Navy on December 11. The exchange took place onboard Emory S. Land and gave both parties an opportunity to discuss their different capabilities and maintenance philosophies. The SUBSAFE program was most interesting, said Lt.j.g. Jorge Delos Reyes, a repair officer for the Philippine Navy. We still don t have submarines and are in the process of implementing them into our navy. Reyes explained that the Philippine Navy has a warranty-based maintenance program which primarily focuses on repairing items when they break. SUBSAFE is a preventative style of maintenance, which replaces parts before they break a must for the safe operation of submarines. During the presentation, Emory S. Land representatives also discussed life cycle maintenance planning and philosophies. The exchange was interactive, with many questions asked and answered. After the exchange, the sailors toured the different repair facilities onboard. It s just like in our shipyard where we have many machinery and metal shops, said Reyes. Emory S. Land s visit to the Philippines continues the U.S. Navy s ongoing commitment to theater security, cooperation, and friendship with local partner navies. Emory S. BCDA will receive annual lease payments and shares in the revenues of generated power. SPI also has committed to employ 1,000 workers during the construction period and at least 250 workers during operations. The term of the lease is 25 years. The lease may be renewed for another 25 years subject to renewal negotiations. The location is a reserved space for green development programs such as renewable energy, urban farming and forest reserves. Casanova said renewable energy facilities such as the solar farm will lead to the establishment of technology development centers focusing on green and smart technology. As part of the agreement, BCDA and SPI will invest to train young Filipinos to be abreast in the latest developments in green and smart technology in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. He said the use of renewable energy such as solar power to energize Clark Green City shows BCDA s commitment to address the effects of climate change and global warming. We are very mindful of the impact of climate change in the Philippines and there is no other recourse but to adopt renewables as the main source of energy to power Clark Green City, Casanova He noted that the BCDA commitment to renewables is also in line with the thrust under the recent COP21 Paris Climate Summit to transition to a green and sustainable economy to address climate change. SPI is a Philippine corporation formed to develop, construct and own utility-scale power generating facilities for the production, generation, sale and storage of electricity harnessed from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and waste-to-energy technology. SPI, and its consortium of green technology companies, possesses expertise in the renewable energy and power industry and possesses proprietary licenses for solar photovoltaic, wind, waste-to-energy, and storage equipment not available in the Philippines. It will be recalled that the BCDA has also signed a similar agreement to build a solar power plant in Clark Green City. Last July, the BCDA and SSR C-Solar Power, Inc. signed a lease agreement that will establish a solar energy farm in Clark Green City capable of generating some 20 megawatts of electricity. SSR C-Solar Power, Inc. committed to invest some P1 billion for the solar energy project within the next two years. The entire Clark Green City is a 9,450-hectare master planned property within the Clark Special Economic Zone in the province of Tarlac, Philippines and is envisioned to be the first smart, disaster-resilient and green city in the Philippines. At full development, Clark Green City will have some 1.12 million residents, 800,000 workers and contribute a gross output of approximately P1.57 trillion per year to the national economy or roughly four percent share in the county s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Located at the Clark Special Economic Zone, Clark Green City is positioned strategically between highly urbanizing cities of San Fernando, Angeles and Olongapo in Central Luzon as well as the cities of San Carlos, Dagupan and Urdaneta in Northern Luzon. It is also near the Clark International Airport and the Subic Seaport. The strategic location and its connectivity to major cities in Central Luzon through the country s expressways like NLEX, SCTEX, TPLEX and soon the CLEX will allow the convergence from north, east, south, and west, and serve a catchment population of some 12 million people.

A lease agreement has been signed between the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and Sunray Power Inc., (SPI). Part of the agreement between the two parties is the training of young Filipinos, so that they can be updated with the latest developments in green and smart technology. According to BCDA president and chief executive officer Arnel Paciano Casanova, renewable energy facilities such as a solar farm will lead to the establishment of technology development centers, focusing on green and smart technology. The use of renewable energy such as solar power to energize Clark Green City just shows the stateowned firm s commitment to address the effects of climate change and global warming. Climate change has painted a grim picture of the future, and has had adverse impacts in the country, the reason why the BCDA has adopted renewables as the main source of energy to power the Green City. Casanova also cited the BCDA s commitment to renewable, which is in line with the thrust under the recent COP21 Paris Climate Summit to a transition to a green and sustainable economy to address climate change. It will not be long that there will be clean and renewable energy not only in Clark Green City but also to the neighboring areas in Central Luzon. www.headlinegl.com HEADLINE Gitnang Luzon is a Daily Regional Newspaper General Manager: MARLO a. franco Editor: RIA DE FIESTA Layout Artist/Photographer: JP Manalang Reporters: CHARLENE CAYABYAB Marna dagumboy - Del rosario Administrative Staff: sherylin l. rivera Publisher: hgl publishing Email: headlinegitnangluzon@gmail.com Website: www.headlinegl.com DISCLAIMER: Views expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily reflect the editorial position of HEADLINE Gitnang Luzon or its internet website: www.headlinegl. com. According to scientific studies, kindness has a great number of physical and emotional benefits, which children require a healthy dose of, to be healthy, happy and well-rounded individuals. Happy children encourage more kind behaviour to others, and this in turn leads to increased peer acceptance and meaningful connections with others. Studies show that kind, happy children enjoy greater peer acceptance because they are well-liked and that better than average mental health is reported in classrooms that practice 4th Quarter Jay Pelayo Teaching Kindness by Arwin D. The local media had a chance to have a brief informal discussion with her during the Most Outstanding Kapampangan Awards where she has been awarded for parenthood. Before being a wonder parent, Juliette Gomez grew up in Mabalacat and then later transferred to Angeles City until the 3rd Grade, where she studied at Holy Family Academy. Despite being enrolled at a well-respected school that is being operated by Catholic nuns, it was on her third grade when her parents decided to transfer her from HolyFam to Assumption in Manila; still run by nuns. The reason for this transfer was because of the spreading of bars and G.I.s post-war, and her conservative parents are worried about their daughter being exposed to such. In Manila, her parents told her that she will be going to the U.S. after high school to enter college. The plan was never realized because during the vacation after her high school, her father suggested she spend time and observe at the Lyceum so that she can be productive while just waiting for her departure to the US. With her father having connection with the Laurels, she got admitted at Lyceum as first year college taking up AB Liberal Arts. It was during her short stay at Lyceum when she met the young law student, Kokoy Romualdez of Leyte. Gomez described it as iginuhit ng tadhana in retrospect. After her first year, her father transferred her again to Maryknoll College (now known as Miriam College) to continue her schooling. Little did her father know that it was too late to control her daughter for the damage has already been done Kokoy and Juliette had already made a connection. He was so dashing! Asne kasanting! the MOKA awardee proudly remembers. He looks a lot like my son Martin, as she turned and looked at her son who is a bit blushing with the remarks of her mother. Her husband Benjamin Kokoy Romualdez is one of the siblings of former first lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos. He became governor of Leyte and was later appointed as the ambassador of United States, China and Saudi Arabia. Juliette Romualdez also divulged that the Romualdezes have an eye for the Kapampangans. One of Kokoy s sisters, Conchita, also married a Kapampangan. And so did Daniel Romualdez. One of Juliette s sons, also named Daniel Romualdez, studied at Yale University and went to Columbia University before being a full-pledged architect. Some of his well-known clients are Rockefeller and Tory Burch. Her son, Congressman Martin went to Washington to finish college. Mommy Juliette said Education is the best investment. It was their key to success after their properties were sequestered for having been allegedly involved in the so-called ill-gotten wealth of the Marcoses. Their property in Mabalacat had been expropriated by Clark. Nevertheless, she takes pride in her way of taking care of her children for they are all successful and God-fearing citizens. At 80, she wishes to spend more time at her residence in Mabalacat, sharing stories in the past, speaking in her favorite native language. more inclusive behaviour due to an even distribution of popularity. The hormone oxytocin, which is released by being kind, has a number of physical and mental health benefits. It can significantly increase a person s level of happiness and reduce stress, and plays a significant role in the cardiovascular system, helping protect the heart by lowering blood pressure. Children who are happy have a greater sense of belonging and improved self-esteem. When they do a good deed, they feel a sense of high, increased energy and a wonderful feeling of optimism. When children are part of projects that help the less fortunate, it provides them with a sense of perspective and helps them appreciate the good things in their own lives. Happiness and kindness play an important part in learning, memory, mood, sleep, health and digestion of children. Being positive allows them greater attention spans and enables more creative thinking to produce better results at school. Also, bullying can be significantly reduced by integrating kindnessbased programs in schools. december 18-20, 2015 Headline Gitnang Luzon OPINION 5 Ikaw at ang iboboto mong pangulo NABASA ko minsan sa e- village ang pahayag na ito: WE ARE WHAT WE CHOOSE. I got to watch on TV, how the contestants react every time they are asked questions. But when it comes to beauty secrets, open ako. Even if I chose to be silent about it, tuloy pa rin sila. Nilagyan ng aktres ng caption na, You broke my heart in so many levels @tarynfisher it s insane. You touched the inner Olivia Kaspen in me and made me realize that there s so much more to loving someone than just making myself happy. Napansin naman ni Fisher ang post ni Lovi at t u m u g o n ng, I hope I get to meet you next year when I visit the Philippines. Our inner Olivias can meet.

SM Bulacan malls give movie, snowy Chrismiles treat to kids A volunteer from SM Marilao guides a child as he creates his first snow figure. BULACAN Personnel from the security and janitorial department brought their children as well as their families for a priceless Christmas treat from SM City Marilao and SM City Baliwag the other day. In Marilao, children had a fun ride around the mall with Storyland s E-Puff Train. From the east entrance of SM City Marilao, the train took rounds and finally stopped at the Polar Express Snow playground to let children experience their first winter fun. Joy and laughter instantly filled SM City Marilao s Snow Playground as children built snowmen and snow figures using colorful pails, shovels, and toys. SM City Baliwag, on the other hand, treated children and their families with a free movie. Children enjoyed the 3D stop motion and computer-animated family adventure fantasy film, The Little Prince, directed by Mark Osborne. ChriSMiles is a Christmas volunteerism project spearheaded by the Human Resources Department, said SM Human Resources Manager Prescila Salamat. She added that the heart of the ChriS- Miles program is to put a smile on children s faces while bringing Christmas Cheers to them and their families. Apart from the winter fun experience and free movie treat, children were also surprised with gifts, entertainment, and Christmas parties. Fun games were also conducted where all the participants got the chance to interact with SM employees and won gift prizes. The kids also cheered with delight as they indulged in a hearty meal of spaghetti, burger, chicken and rice with a variety of desserts. ChriSMiles is an initiative of SM City Marilao and SM City Baliwag to raise a substantial amount of money for the holiday cheers of the less fortunate children. Apart from the in-kind contributions, interaction with the beneficiaries through sharing one s time, talent, and affection was likewise emphasized. Children raised their new toys and gifts as early Christmas cheers were given through SM City Baliwag s ChriSMiles.
