10 Vata (air contained in space) ~ movement, wind, flow Ayurveda recognizes three primary life-forces in the body, or three biological humors called Vata, Pitta and Kapha, which correspond to the elements of air, fire, and water. They determine the life processes of growth and decay. Students need to understand how to keep vata balanced. Vata energy is stored in the colon. Primary yoga guide for balancing colon is correct use of legs, sitting in lotus. Vata illnesses of both body and mind result from insufficient energy or uneven-impeded flow of energy in the body. Pain, debility, most nervous system disorders, insomnia, tremors, epilepsy, paralysis, arthritis. Symptoms: dryness, cold, impaired or abnormal movement, wasting away of tissues, confused, overwhelmed, have difficulty focusing or making decisions. Emotions: worry, fear and anxiety. Balance vata(air) using Shiva principles. Include warm clothing, warm cooked foods, oil the body, nothing cold to drink, gentleness, regular schedule, stability, sit in Lotus or do Buddhist Yoga.
