Damages
Damages
Damages
Damages
Damages
What happens when machines are damaged? Accidents happen! Replacement costs approx. $1,000 A $50 repair fee will be charged for damages for every occurrence
Preventing Damage Use the laptop on a hard surface--not on the carpet, a pillow, couch, the bed spread, or on top of the mattress this prevents proper air flow and causes the unit to suck in lint, thus creating heat that will cause the unit to fail Keep all food, liquids, and animals away from the computer!! Always carry the laptop in the school approved laptop bag
Preventing Damage Keep the laptop and charger in a safe environment. Do not leave in a car or anywhere else where there is excessive temperatures hot or cold. Do not put anything (earbuds, etc.) on the keyboard and then close the computer. This will crack the screen! Set up the lock code (don t give it away) on the laptop so others can t access
FAQ How long do the student s keep the laptop During the school year only How do students store projects? Use a flash drive Use free cloud storage Google Docs, Drop Box, etc. Can students access internet at home? Yes, you will set up the connection with your Internet Service Provider
FAQ Who monitors the student s computer usage at school? In the classroom setting, teachers are responsible for allowing student use and accessibility to the computers Technology Staff has the capability of viewing/ controlling the student s machine via the network at school Filtering is used to block inappropriate sites from students (@school and home)
FAQ How can we help monitor at our house? Discuss internet safety with your child. Have your child use the laptop only in a supervised area Place monitor in a way that you can view it at all times Enforce a curfew... Take up laptop at night, etc. Review Internet Safety Website / GHS /Student Laptops / Internet Safety Tips for Parents
FAQ Can students access Facebook at school Facebook is blocked at school For home use, that is to the parent s discretion Restrictions can be placed on the student laptop. If you desire restricted access, please contact the GHS MacLab for more information.
FAQ Must the students use the school issued bags to carry the laptops? Yes! DO NOT carry in any other bag not a purse, not a backpack, etc. The bags were bought specifically to carry the laptop and only the laptop. Bag checks will be conducted by GHS Staff and Administration
FAQ Can bags and laptops be personalized? No. No stickers or markings are allowed on the laptop Students may use a ribbon, luggage tag, or other such item to mark the bag, so long as it is removable item
FAQ Are the students issued the same laptop each year? Yes. Students will be issued the same laptop every year until a refresh cycle is complete Can the laptops be purchased at the end of the cycle? No. The laptops will be used within GISD at other campuses
FAQ What happens if we have an accident (drop/liquid/other damage)? Bring the computer to the MacLab ASAP. Tests can be run to see the damage and the machine can be fixed in-house most of the time. TELL THE TRUTH about what happened! Accidents DO happen!
FAQ Who can work on the computers? All computers will be serviced by GISD Apple Certified Technicians ONLY. Repair by anyone else will void the warranty and the student will be responsible for costs of all service/parts that are needed
FAQ What happens if our laptop is lost/stolen? Visit with the Assistant Principal and the MacLab Staff. A police report with a timeline of the events surrounding the loss/stolen laptop must be filed! When is the Computer Usage Fee due? The fee must be paid before a laptop is issued to a student so the sooner the better!
