2 DATA VIRTUALIZATION ABOUT THIS SEMINAR The way decision are made in organisations is changing. The biggest change is that they have to react faster. Studies are supporting this. For example, a study done in March 2011 showed that 43% of enterprises find that making timely decisions is becoming more difficult. Managers increasingly find they have less time to make decisions after business events occur. The consequence is that it must be possible to change existing reports faster, and that reports must be developed more quickly. From this we can include that our BI systems have to be more flexible, more agile. Compared to ETL, where data integration takes place in a scheduled manner, with Data Virtualization data is integrated on-demand. The last few years, various Data Virtualization servers have become available to develop these systems, including those of Composite, Denodo, IBM, Informatica, Information Builders, Queplix and RedHat. In many projects they have already proven that Data Virtualization technology is mature, does simplify BI systems, and makes them more severely more agile. 7 SPEAKER Rick van Der Lens is an independent consultant, author and lecturer. He specializes in Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, and Service Oriented architectures. He is managing director of R20/Consultancy. Mr. van der Lans is an internationally acclaimed lecturer. For the last 12 years, he has been presenting professionally, and has lectured in many of the European countries, South America, the USA, and in Australia. He has presented many keynote speeches at international events. Mr. van der Lans is chairman of the Database Systems Show (organised annually in The Netherlands since 1984), he is columnist for two major newspapers in the Benelux, called Computable and DataNews.
