2 Myths and Facts Fact - The first Community College was in Illinois. Joliet Junior College Fact - One-third of college seniors have transferred at some point during their college careers. Predictably, more students at two-year colleges transfer (about 42%) than those at four-year institutions (about 23%). Fact - Transfer students are less likely to graduate with a bachelor's degree and also less likely to be in the group to graduate in a fouryear period. Myth - Transfer students are inferior. Myth - Retention strategies are not needed for transfer students. Myth - The majority of transfer students are non-traditional in age. 3 Trends in Transfer Students Traditional - 2 year transferring to 4 year. Reverse Transfers - move from 4 year to 2 year. Lateral Transfers - move from 2 year to 2 year or 4 year to 4 year. Swirling Transfers - co-enrolled in two or more schools simultaneously.
